@mbvglider3 жыл бұрын
@@JohnDrummondPhoto I don't buy that an old processor can't handle more touchscreen controls. The Olympus E-PM2 was released in 2013, and that could easily select settings using a touchscreen. It couldn't change them, but you could hit settings with your fingers and then use the dial, which is actually more than you can do with many Sony cameras released in the last couple years. Meanwhile, budget-friendly, last-gen Canon cameras like the RP and M5 have wonderful touchscreen controls. It's just Sony who just keeps making cameras where the specs are good, but the user experience to get them is so mediocre.

After days of watching KZbin videos to find a camera, I'm worn out... everyone has a different opinion and you never know which are paid opinions and which are honest...but I want to trust the Canadian in you to help me decide on a camera! I'm not ready to spend $2-3k yet on bodies and lenses, but I'm more looking for one to use in my home studio, which is a very small room, 8ft x 10ft, that will be the main camera, on a tripod... I don't give a damn about vlogging with it, as I use the DJI Osmo Action for that, and I'm tired of every single review focusing on that aspect! I just want a pretty good camera with good resolution, can do decent bokeh background in a small space, and possibly be used as a webcam as well. What would you suggest?

So, yet another outdated Sony camera and outdated processor from a stone age were repackaged and repurposed. I guess will see a terrible rolling shutter, outdated clunky menu, and in general subpar beginner camera for people who switch from phone camera to something better. I guess it becomes more and more obvious that Sony just doesn't want for APS-C line to undercut and erode sales of its FF line. It even has vlogging option in the FF line-Sony a7C. Sony released the last APS-C E lens exactly 2 years ago and since then it has released only FE lenses- already 10 lenses-and zero E ones. Makes me wonder about Sony's focus on APS-C in general. I think Sony just wants to unload all APS-C sensors and older Bionz X processors (hence, older outdated menu in camera) stock it has left and support sales of E lenses stock to focus in the future on FF and 1" sensor cameras with newer Bionz XR processor-while Fuji focuses on Medium and APS-C. Both brands are arguably the best in their respective formats. At this point, it's rather hard to compete with Fuji on the APS-C format. If Sony creates something like Fuji X-S10 or even X-T4 it probably would be priced in the same range or higher than Sony a7C. Hence, it's already better to buy Sony's FF than Sony's APS-C.

To me, the image looks bad ESPECIALLY after KZbin compression (the most common use case) but as someone who tests lots of cameras and lenses to optimize lens-sensor relationships (by creating "lens-sensor LUTS") I think there may be hope for this...but I have a few questions: 1. You're so right about the D-range being bad in the "Standard" profile, and while it looked better in Log format, do you think using a filter (such as a Tiffen Black Pro Mist, Sof FX, etc.) could help reduce the contrast to constrain the d-range so it renders smoother gradations? 2. I test and keep track of my Contrast, Sharpness and Color settings for EACH LENS I use and I'm wondering if you've tried to tweak those settings (to maximize the d-range and reduce digital artifacts, etc. ) Check out my blog post about this topic: www.silverlightphotoco.com/post/how-i-set-camera-settings-like-the-zone-system 3. Is there a way to clean up the compression artifacts (especially noticeable in the motion induced during vlogging)...like upping the bit rate?

The image quality during the blog part is the worst ive seen so far from other reviews. Its like you using a different camera.

Not a very exciting camera, but a very important one. When paired with the kit lens it's the same price as a Panasonic g95 kit, and I feel like this is the first time Sony has a good value proposition in the entry level market when compared to micro four thirds. May not be relevant for us, but a gateway camera is super important for beginners, and having one means Sony will likely get them in the e-mount ecosystem from the very beginning of their careers

Great review, as always... the target market for this camera is bang on; I'm just disappointed they recycled the same sensor with the same quirks and issues. I recently went from an a6400 to an a7c and I'm thankful, because I suspect the resale value of the a6400 is about to get decimated. On the plus side however, the a6100 may become a great budget-friendly camera between now and the holiday season.

Great review! I think you bring out a lot of great points with regards to how this specific camera is designed to do a little bit more if you're not really looking or wanting to do a vlog style setting. In fact it's perfect for someone that's going to do a lot more talking head videos on this camera because it's going to allow you to have a wider shot with that 16 to 50 lens. Plus if you put a sigma 16 1.4 aperture on it you should be able to get a much more bokeh better situation. And I noticed that you didn't really talk about the product showcase or any of those other features which quite frankly for a talking headseting this is probably going to be the best camera that Sony has sold in this entry level lineup. I own the zv1 and I think it's great for what I do but the zv-e10 is a camera that I'm looking for specifically to do talking headshots and simply putting it on a tripod. I plan to use my zv1 as a top-down shot. At any rate this was a great review thank you for the great video.

My opinion the 4k is completely unusable. This is a 1080p camera through & through .

well, that was pretty bad quality in the vlog test, i'm not sure if the camera is that bad or you are just pushing way too hard

Nothing like terrible mushy footage to scare away potential customers.

I absolutely love this camera. I’m mad that I just bought the M50 to livestream and make basic KZbin videos for my nee channel. I wish I waited and got this.

🤔 I'm a bit divided on this one. Really its an APS-C version of the ZV-1 and that multi interface hot shoe is great. AF looks like it could be better. Does product showcase work well?

I'm right here with you!! I'm sticking with my ZV1 for vlogging and doc type stuff. The rolling shutter is the killer for me. Wish Sony had a new sensor for this Camera

Kasey used it on his video, product showcase works as well as on ZV-1

Sony is angry at this review LOL, this camera is terrible at anything moving... MAYBE a gimbal will fix it up.... but handheld or a "selfie stick" its terrible.. so much jello and shakiness.... if you use this camera on a tripod for static shots...maybe....

The rolling shutter is hideous sadly. Got an A6600 and that thing stays on a tripod all the time when I'm using it. It's my C-Cam alongside my FX3 and A7iii so it pretty much would anyway, but it's pretty rough to see because you know vloggers are gonna be jelloing it all up.

I was hoping for a Camera Conspiracy cameo but you’re far too classy to vlog near a dumpster.

Is it me or did the footage from this new camera look like a$$? I use the Zv1 and a6400 and they look way better. Even when he was shooting in s-log it still looked pretty bad. I always shoot in PP4 and modify the sharpness, contrast and saturation just a tad. Looks great. Maybe that's the issue or the green cast from all the trees.
