To those who don’t like this movie because it was “inaccurate,” that is to be expected from movies based on true stories. Some of Saturday Night wasn’t true to what happened that premiere night, some of it happened in later shows. Jason Reitman researched and spoke to the people involved that night, including Lorne Michaels. Reitman calls the movie “authentic”. In the sense, made or done in a way that faithfully resembles an original. The thing with these kinds of movies, is you have to realize, that they’re movies. It’s an art form. Not a documentary. You have to think about them as a painting, and not a photograph.
@Hai_Lello8 күн бұрын
Yeah, that’s me. You don’t have to put “inaccurate” in quotations, that’s exactly what it is. Just because that’s to be “expected” doesn’t make it right. It’s BS and studios need to stop doing it. Don’t tell me I’m watching the story of what happened if it didn’t happen. If the story isn’t good enough on its own, either don’t tell it or call it fiction. It’s that simple. Otherwise, what’s the point? Why have people walk away thinking they know the story of your life (or in this case, show) when 90% of it isn’t true? That’s why the world is full of rumors and misinformation now. I’m not gonna make a movie about myself as an only child, struggling to make it in the mean streets of the city if I had 8 siblings and lived in a mansion in the Hamptons. It makes no sense and nobody asked for it. They even made a big deal, the whole movie, of Lorne’s then-wife deciding whether or not she wanted to use his last name or her maiden name for the credits that night. At the end, she chooses her maiden name. In actuality, she used Michaels. What is the point in that? Why have people walk away thinking and saying that’s what happened when it didn’t? It’s pointless. Expect more.

@@Hai_Lello So films should be 100 percent accurate or it shouldn’t be made? Thank god you’re not calling the shots in any filmmaking position. If I wanted that, I’d watch a documentary or read a book, not a narrative film. Plus, I think I’ll take Dan Aykroyd’s word over yours regarding the film’s accuracy.

My wife and I (25) watched the first show, and were mystified! I don't think we laughed once. My older brother called the next day and asked my opinion. He was also questioning what he saw. I thought I was pretty funny and hip, but this??? By the 3rd week, we were getting the concept. I guess we weren't used to this kind of humor. Quickly, it was on-demand viewing for us. Now 75, I've gone back to watching it, with the political opening. But not live. I watch Weekend Update. The skits? Sometimes. The musical guests? Never. And way back then, the show was only on 3 nights a month. The 4rd weekend was another odd show with two people who later found fame. And I'll never forget the interview where Lorne said that the music would be unknowns, like you'd find in NYC. I don't think that ideal lasted very long! But for better or worse - long live SNL!

Lots of stale tropes and cliches. "You're my executive assistant". Because the screenwriters feel the audience needs to know that kid in the shirt and tie is young Lorne's assistant. "Hi I'm Batman and the kid in the tights is Robin. That guy over there is the Joker !" Then we need to know that the girl in the makeup chair is Gilda Radner "Gilda ! can you come over here !" Frantic running script girl "Belushi hasn't signed his contract". Camera alights about a dozen times on a guy who looks and dresses just like Andy Kauffman, but they still feel the need to throw in a "Come on Andy!". How bout either trust that we already know who Andy Kaufman is or don't worry so much about whether we do? Next "I'm Al Franken and this is Tom Davis". And Garrett Morris has to say "Garrett don't do voodoo" - because of course he always referred to himself in the third person. How bout trust that fans already know who the only black cast member was ? Imagine if they could hold your interest without the incessant name-dropping? Or just save us these cliches and line up everyone in a row so they can introduce themselves in alphabetical order? Lots of bad acting too.
