If you have any additional questions about working with this yarn that I didn't answer in the video - drop them in the comments and I will be sure to answer them! I'm curious - have you knit with unspun yarn before? Are you curious to try it?

I stumbled across you this morning. I became interested in unspun yarn a few years back. This is now the third unspun type yarn I’ve learned about in the past few months. I used Plutolopi to make my jumper type sweater. I’ll have to search for the others and make other projects. I loved working with the yarn. I don’t find it too warm, but I’m comfortable. Your cardigan is lovely. I’d love to see the”sunshine” peachy orange one made up.

@@Sopranoknits I ordered the brown and the purple. One of the colours I'll use for the fluff nugget and the other I'll use to make The Hood by Vanessa Pellisa but I'm still trying to decide which to use for what!

I am excited to try this yarn! I have used Plotulopi and at the beginning I was constantly breaking it, but once you I got a feel for the tension I could use it wasn’t a problem. I found pulling from the center of the plate was easiest for me.

I can’t wait to knit a fluff nugget in nutiden! I don’t have much experience with unspun yarn, and I’m really excited to try nutiden.

It's so cool! I was so nervous about it in the beginning but really once you get used to how it handles it's pretty smooth sailing! I'm excited to see your second fluff nugget! 😉

Briggs an little has a 5ply pencil roving that's similar that I am tempted to deconstruct and try. Thank you for your video as I have always wanted to try pencil roving yarn but have been worried about breakage. Since I am not a knitter I wonder how this crochets up. But I guess I will find out when I get there😊

Thank you so much for the video ❣️I’ve been curious about this yarn over the last month after hearing a couple knitters discussing it...it sounds amazing and your enthusiasm about it adds to my curiosity ❤️ I’ve been seeing your sweater on IG and totally love the design❣️cardigans are my go to😍 interesting that brioche didn’t take an excessive amount of yarn👍 thanks again for this post I found it so helpful. Have a lovely day !

Hi Lynn - I'm so glad you found it helpful! Yes, this took such a surprisingly small amount of yarn it's amazing! I really love creating designs that aren't prohibitively expensive to make!

Okay so the 8 skeins of roving yarn I bought aren’t wasted? I got them to Knit a sweater and then someone said that it was useless 😅

Is manchelopi also a substitute? Nutiden seems difficult to get unless you join their patreon, which I can not afford.

I think if you plan ahead what you want and set an alarm for the update you'll be ok! It's very early (if you're also here in Europe) but...so worth it. It really is such wonderful yarn!

Hi! How do you store your Nutiden yarn? I'm afraid of moths. Do you keep it in it's paper packaging or take it out and how do you store it? Thanks
@Sopranoknits Жыл бұрын
I take it out and I store it with my other yarn in plastic bins with little cedar wood pieces to provide extra protection against moths. For my knitted pieces, I wash them at the end of the cold season and either store them in plastic bins or in zippered pillowcases, also with cedar.

Do u still use pencil roving for all ur designs? Has any of ur garments fabric that had high usage have issues from using this product? I saw pencil roving on another site but when I searched for USA made (not picky but shipping $ is a killer) couldn't find it. Have u used any other company for pencil roving in US? Thanks for sharing
@Sopranoknits Жыл бұрын
This is my only published design that suggest pencil roving. I haven't had any issues and I wear mine a lot! I know other people have knit it with US yarns. I suggest searching projects on Ravelry or Instagram for ideas of yarn substitutions - hope that helps!

I got my first batch of Plotulopi yarn directly from Iceland due to it being a memory piece. My late twin loved her only trip abroad and chose Iceland. My niece wanted to knit memory sweaters and go back to Iceland in Oct this year. I won't be going but am knitting a cardigan with single Plotulopi. Its so easy to use! However the pattern called for single ply and I wanted it more dense. I just went down to a US needle size 5 as the swatch was too open at a US &. I was wondering what needle size you used? I plan to use a US 7 for the next sweater for hubby as it calls for it to be doubled and I did a swatch. I didn't know there was a different name for it being Nutiden...very interesting. Plotulpi is scratchy so I am doing outer wear and its water resistent due to the double hair nature of the Icelandic sheep. They let them loose in the mountains for a few months every year! This really improves their coats.
@Sopranoknits3 жыл бұрын
Hi Romy! The needle sizes I used are on the Ravely and Payhip pages (as well as being in the pattern of course) but sizes needed varied a lot between testers especially because people used different yarns and Nutiden varies between batches. Just to clarify, Nutiden isn't produced by the same company as Plotulopi at all - it's a small independent mill in Sweden called Höner och eir. The blends I've worked with so far are much much softer than plotulopi but they are all different blends.

How do you find the beginning of the plate? I’m ready to give it a try! Thanks 😊

It's always been easy for me to find on the outside! The yarn kind of wants to stick to itself so they don't need to hide it anywhere. 🥰

I have spun several Icelandic fleeces with my antique spinning wheel. It is wonderful to spin with and its not delicate when knitting with as pencil roving. My handspun is thick and wonderful for projects also but I didn't make any pencil roving. I wouldn't recommend spinning this thin roving called pencil roving..you wind up with lace weight yarn very easily. Due to the staple length supplying the strength there is no need to spin it.
