He did the right thing, made smart decisions, and put in his time. When all the shit went down early in the series Bobby kept his head and showed respect to Tony even though he hated him at the time and was being treated like shit. Then he took care of Junior hand-and-foot even though it cut into his ability to earn, but he didn't complain or look for a payoff, he asked Tony respectfully for the opportunity to earn his keep. Shit like that goes a long way with Tony. Then when Janice came into the picture he married her, which made him family to Tony. Suddenly Christopher looked like way more of a liability than he was worth, and Bobby became the obvious choice for underboss. He's one of the best and most underrated characters on the show.

***** I get what you mean. If you factor out his morals and some of his actions (killing a woman for her cooperation with the FBI, etc.), Silvio was a great man. Bobby was the least tainted considering he only killed 1 person over the course of the show. You could tell by his personality that he was in the wrong line of work.

Andrei Neculai You are probably right, there. Either way, a high cotton compliment, considering that after Brando, for at least a while there he was thought by many to be the greatest American actor. Now that I think of it, sometimes (more recent movies), if I have any kind of critique of him as an actor, it is that he doesn't appear convincing when he has to cry, at times...maybe just to me (and by the way, it comes from him being SO good, you are looking at some one, little flaw). In Raging Bull, he was of course an angry animal, but I wouldn't make such a claim, as to the sadder moments. Incredible performance. Sadly, younger folks today, they won't even bother to watch a film if it is in black and white. Best to you.

Forever & always will Silvio be my absolute favorite character from “The Sopranos” saga. At first I really didn’t know why I was so Infatuated by this guy Silvio. Then it hit me. It was his Loyalty. Not loyalty one can buy off or some loyalty that is traditionally obligated. Silvio had the kind of loyalty one commits himself to, that when the shit goes down? He’ll be there, for you, every time. The kind of loyalty that may even surprise the one it has been sworn unto. A guy like Silvio is a dying breed that everyone needs in these Dog Days of Mooks. To Silvio! 🥂

Tangentially, the ONLY two people who were completely loyal to Tony throughout the entire series were the kindly Bobby and diplomatic, yet cunning, Silvio. Furthermore, it was the Russians who ULTIMATELY killed Tony, and most likely, his entire family, in the last episode. In the final scene, the assassin wearing the jacket going into the bath-room was a Slav, and in no way was Italian, and is the, TO ME, only explanation for the enormous plot-hole from Season 3 where the entire Russian situation-the guy got-away and there was never a single mention of The Russians from that episode to the end--just stopped with ABSOLUTELY no conclusion of any kind...until the very last scene. If you could possibly disagree, I very strongly recommend that you go-back and watch the four episodes, or so, with the Russians involved, and then watch the final episode, and you will see exactly what I mean. Also, the "fade-to-black" represented Tony being shot and not even hearing it, and "the lights-going-out" from the shot. There you have it, folks, all in three paragraphs.

ExposingZionistEvil Sure, it's a theory.. and not a bad one, but you can't say it's the truth. By the end of the series Tony had made so many enemies that it truly could be anyone. Revenge for Phil's mutilation comes to mind, among MANY other things... but yeah anyway, it COULD be the Russians. As for the Members Only guy, I personally don't think he looked slavic... he looked just as Italian as anybody in the series. In my opinion he looked like a typical NY soldier/associate and he was probably going to get made after whacking Tony. David Chase in one interview when asked relentlessly about "the Russian" said that he'd like to think he survived but with brain damage and Slava sent him back to Russia to be taken care of. (I'm too lazy to find the link at the moment but I could provide it if you're curious) I've watched every single episode at least 2-3 times so yeah... and as for the ending, I agree... it was made VERY clear that was from Tony's POV, so yeah, Tony was shot in the end.

Oh yes, far too much AJ as well. I do believe they only used that whole AJ depression thing as a platform to compare and contrast him with Tony. So viewers could get an idea of how differently AJs life would end up from Tonys although they shared some of the same mental health issues. But I totally agree, way too much AJ. His character was so insignificant to the show and I would much rather they took all the time the spent boring us to death with Gay Vito, Anthony Jr and Janice & Bobbys marital issues and fed us some more insight into other things. The inside dealings of the NY family feuds, the investigation by the FEDs, even some good old fashion Paulie shenanigans would have been more entertaining.

The beef between Tony and Phil was driven by Phils lack of respect for Jersey and his thirst to consolidate power. Vito and his affair with Johnny Cakes was no "Big Part" in that beef at all. You know full well that the beef would have been incited by Phil whether or not Vito and his gay lifEstyle was exposed when he was outed. I felt like the Vito stories slowed down the sixth season so much that i find myself FF'ing through it during my Sopranothons and sometimes even wanting to skip entire episodes. They made up for it in the end though. Blue Comet and Made in America are 2 of my favorite episodes.

@@RFJersey Bobby was ultra reliable and a closer family member to Tony once he married Janice. You keep your family real close in this thing, even when others are around that seem more qualified. Paulie was a veteran but incredibly foolish- no legitimate income to distract the feds, attacking civilians like Jason Barone, failing to kill Phil Leotardo, being a jackass in public and not dealing with most of the internal issues a suttocapo is supposed to be dealing with. Bobby never let Tony down even when he wasn't with Tony formally and took care of Junior better than anyone could. Chris on the other hand was true nepotism. While he was a family relation he was promoted ahead of his time and even gained Paulie's captain rank when the latter was in prison. He was good, but he had to have more time and effort. Benny got his button by enduring, among other things a beating from Phil that was unwarranted.

"So....buddah?" The most POWERFUL part of this whole scene....its taken directly from The Godfather, after Tom comes back from California and they are talking about meeting with Sollazzo.... Vito asks Santino what he thinks about them moving in to drugs and sonny says "it's a lot of money in that white powder" ...then Vito says "Tom..?" Vito (the Don) asking his consigliere and underboss for their insight and opinion on making a move... because he values their wisdom. This scene shows that Tony has the SAME exact respect for his consigliere and underboss, as Vito did for Sonny and Tom. This is the most brilliant scene of the WHOLE series
