I think what needs saying is that good NMM is like good weathering, it only works if the painter has the imagination and understanding of how the light and effects are applied, and can keep a consistent picture of this in his head. Then the skill to execute it to that plan. This is a demonstration of that! :) Bravo, Maestro.

I knew this would be worth waiting for - he's the only one in my core set not done and I would never have guessed this was the direction you'd go! Amazing as always. There's always a magic moment in your videos where it all comes together at once! How much planning and testing do you do before starting?
@Sorastro
@Sorastro 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Rob! The amount of planning and testing varies; in this case I tried the chrome effect out on a couple of spare stormtroopers to see how I liked the effect. I then went straight into filming Ultron (you can see I'm still kind of feeling my way - often going back and forth, making adjustments along the way). 🙂

Amazing work as always mate. I've just bought the core set and all the Asgardians so I'm looking forward to start working on them, whilst seeing what I can adapt from these fab tutorials into my own personal painting style. One thing I'm impressed by this series is how you're not using any metallic paints yet achieve these fabulous metal effects, especially on Ultron of like one Doc Ock's tentacles. Can't wait to see where this series is heading next.

Have you ever tried adding artists ink to metallic paints/regular paints, to see what effect they have on your figures? I've tried this a few times now, and adding turquoise/blue ink to a silver based paint really makes a difference when painting sci-fi figures. Adding a yellow r brown ink to gold paint produces a whole set of new shades to play around with. I've started adding ins to paints used for clothing now, and things are getting seriously good :-) I LOVE how you painted Ultron here, as I have him waiting for my attention, and this video has given me a whole new set of ideas for how to go about painting him. I saw a picture online of some armoured figures with the ground work reflected on the underside of their armour, so that is another thing to try on some of my figures. I love all your videos, which just get better every time. Any more terrain videos in the pipeline at all? You only made one as far as I know, and we'd all, no doubt, love to see some more :-D
@Sorastro
@Sorastro 4 жыл бұрын

That's OK I can use this on the pieces and blow him real good. Maybe turn him into an objective or something. Or have him building himself back together. Great video as always. Thanks Sebastian! Well, beyond using the blues to create the impression of reflections of the sky, and the brown-ish tones to show the reflection of the ground/terrain, the rest is just playing with variations to create a look that is pleasing to the eye. I know that might not be very helpful, but it's a pretty intuitive process that I try not to over think (plus there's a fair bit of trial and error!).. :)

David Pera to get a sheer fabric look decide on your fabric colour and apply this to begin with. Start to highlight as usual, but mix in some of the skin mid tone. As you refine your highlights add more of your highlight tone for the skin areas. Bear in mind where the fabric would lay in folds as this will obscure the skin more. Reference images help, but bear in mind where you are likely to find examples 😝
