2 things i would like to say; dude you are a genious, and its the first time i see anyone painting fur without drybrushing. Really nice job!
@Sorastro8 жыл бұрын
+Nuno V Thanks so much Nuno! Yeh, I don't mind dry brushing fur that has a very fine texture (like the nexu) but not so much for more "chunky" fur like this :)

Hi Sorastro, the simplicity and formula way you break your paint jobs down make it very easy to follow along. I notice that you seem to thin your paints right down and paint several very thin layers. Approximately what ratio of paint to thinner do you use, and what do you use for your thinner for these paints (given that you do in fact thin them down)? Have you tried the citadel air paints through an airbrush?
@Sorastro8 жыл бұрын
Thank you Tim! I thin my paints with water and the ratio can vary, but typically around 30-50% water? I might go thicker for base colors and thinner for layering highlights. I have not tried the Citadel air paints yet :)
@timroberts698 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply Sorastro. I will try thinning my paints now. Keep the great work coming. I love getting notifications when your next one is ready.

Your videos are amazing. I am working my way through the Imperial Assault tutorials. However, I just received my KS pledge for The Others and wonder whether you might be covering a model or two from that series? In particular, I am interested in learning how one might use washes in stages to build color and depth, as I have heard some are doing with characters from The Others. Anyway, about time I head over to Patrion and add myself as a contributor to these videos before asking any "Other" favors :)
@Sorastro8 жыл бұрын
+Greg Nielsen Lol thanks Greg! Yes - I am in fact planning to cover one or two figures from The Others very soon (most likely the Pride Avatar next month) :)
@gcnielsen6518 жыл бұрын
The Pride Avatar would be amazing! I am paralyzed whenever I start to imagine how I might go about painting that thing. I'm too new to the hobby to easily visualize such a feat.
@richardhill28288 жыл бұрын
superb as normal, one thing though your colors are going on a lot stronger than mine. Do you still water down or are you painting direct as seems to take me 3x cover to get to what you have on 1st application or is this just the editing?
@Sorastro8 жыл бұрын
+Richard Hill Thank you Richard! I think that's mostly the editing honest; I typically have to apply 2-3 thin layers to get good coverage :)
@KX5Kat8 жыл бұрын
Thank you, the fur techniques will be especially useful for my Kingdom Death miniatures. Would you use the same techniques for feathers?
@Sorastro8 жыл бұрын
Hi! Hmm we're talking about the incredible Phoenix monster? I wouldn't like to advise on that at the moment until I've tested some ideas out.. can't wait to paint mine! :)
@KX5Kat8 жыл бұрын
Indeed, that very one. I found the green stuff tricks particularly helpful as well, it's application is often overlooked. Till next time, thanks for the stellar work and have a good one.

Hi Vincenzo! That's a two-part modelling putty called "Green Stuff" that's often used for sculpting or filling gaps: www.greenstuffworld.com/en/green-stuff/5-green-stuff-putty-tape-36-inches.html?search_query=Green+stuff&results=471 (You're English is fine by the way :) )

If you were going to do a sandy base instead, to have your bantha marching on a dune instead of a cracked plain, how would you do that?
@Sorastro8 жыл бұрын
Hi Cpt! Hmm for a sandy dune I'd be tempted to lay down a very smooth paste - like Vallejo's water effect - and paint it a sandy colour with smooth transitions between the shadows and highlights. I'd have to try it out first though! :)
@CaptainSaltyPete8 жыл бұрын
Sounds like that might be a bit hard, I might just go with a cracked base, thanks :)
