Sorastro, you're painting guides are easy to follow and fun to watch. I started painting minis about the time you started your Imperial Assault series and I have to say that you're videos are one of the main reasons why I took the leap of faith and started putting paint onto plastic. I really enjoy the hobby, thank you for helping me get started.

Another fantastic tutorial. The idea of using different colored washes to add variety to a large, monochrome figure is brilliant. I've picked up a lot on using different colors when doing shading and glazes from your series that I think is adding a lot to my own work. Even though I chose to use clear plastic bases for my Star Wars Assault figures, the basing section of the video provided sone useful tips for other basing projects. Thanks again!

Sorastro's Painting a beginners question if you allow: the prep n spray in the different colors... is it just a visual aide where you will have to remember the highlights for shade/light effects, or do the different spray colours themself have an effect on upcoming layers in terms of brightness?
@Sorastro7 жыл бұрын
+blunznsepp Hi again! That's a good question. It really depends on how thick your paint is and how many layers you apply. In this case, although I kept the paint reasonably thick, I only applied a single layer so some of the zenithal pre-shade would indeed show through. :)

Hey Sorastro, Great vid as always! I've just got a couple of questions, The Spray Varnish that u use at the end of each painting, is it required, or do u think that it would be possible to just paint on Vallejo Matte/gloss varnish? And also, I was planning on painting my HKs in a similar tone to the large Imperial Assassin Droids from Star Wars Rebels, or kind of in a Probe Droid style. How would you reccomend I paint the base coat if I only have a White spray primer, but want it to have a metallic, Probe Droid style look? Or should I buy a Grey Primer? PS I only have Vallejo Paints :)
@Sorastro7 жыл бұрын
Hi Isaac! Brushing on Vallejo varnish would work great. I think a white prime for your HKs would also be fine. For a dark metallic look like the SW Rebels assasin droids you might want to mix a little black into whatever metallic tone you're using, and I imagine you'll the throwing a dark wash on top too? :)

+Sorastro's Painting Hey! Great, that helps a bunch! Thank you so much! Yeah, definitely gonna give it a wash. Btw, if it's not too much trouble, which wash would you reccomend? I've been using Vallejo's Black ink, and when raw, turned my stormtroopers pure black. Needed to dilute it w 1 part ink and 3 parts thinner for it to have a grayish color. Do u think that I should buy a pot of Nuln Oil?
@Sorastro7 жыл бұрын
No problem! Yes, I think either some Nuln Oil or Vallejo's own black wash - www.amazon.co.uk/Vallejo-Model-Color-Wash-Paints/dp/B00AOL8G8S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1492719223&sr=8-2&keywords=vallejo+model+wash (they also do quite a nice grey one) would be a good idea :)

Fantastic video (as always)! I've noticed that you regularly apply zenithal highlights in your tutorials and you mentioned you could do this with spray cans. Is that as simple as just priming in black and then only using white from a certain angle? I'd love to see using spray cans as an example in a future video (because while I enjoy painting, I don't have the budget to justify getting an airbrush).

Thanks Ian! You can see me demonstrating the use of spray cans to create zenithal highlights in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKWrk3ycrrZ7eLc :)

Does glaze medium work like GW Lahmian medium?
@Sorastro6 жыл бұрын
Hi Petr! It's similar, but it has the built in retarder which slows the drying time; that's why I like it for wet blending :)

Didn't he do some previously? For Han?
@Sorastro7 жыл бұрын
Nigel's right! I did Han's gun with non metallic paints.. I'm not really a fan of NMM to be honest, but am enjoying a strange metallic/NMM approach at the moment (like with the HKs) :)
@h8uall667 жыл бұрын
It was a very small amount. I honestly thought that was the direction he was going with the HKs. It can be a bit of an advanced technique and often only looks good from one or two angles so I understand if it doesn't ever come up.
