This was the encore song at her standard country music concert. Yes it's a banjo - to the left sitting down is her dad playing a steel top slide guitar. The audio was recorded at the mixing desk....after listening back to it they realized it was pretty special & were gutted to not have any camera's recording the concert. Kasey sent a call out on her various social media platforms asking her fans/followers to send her any phone footage of the gig &n hey presto....after a lot of editing this video was born.

A superb rewrite of a superb song. Firstly she gave it a melody, secondly she focused with her voice on the anguish in verses 1 and 2 that lead to the fuck you in the 3rd verse when the band came in - I will make it. The lyrics are easier to understand and identfy just how good they are "His souls escaping through the hole that is gaping" and his early life that lead to the I will make it- 3rd verse. Kasey said she always was an admirer of Eminem and of people who put all their emotions up front. The sentiments of the song clearly resonate with her journey through music. I love she also kept the rap cadence albeit slowed down.

Ya she did such an AMAZING job recreating this song in a way that sounds so different yet honors the original in such a fierce way! It must take a tremendous amount of talent to rewrite a song like that, I'd imagine it's harder than just writing a song from scratch in a lot of ways!

Kasey Chambers is an Australian legend: the youngest person to be inducted into the Australian Music Hall of Fame, a dozen albums and has more than 30 ARIA Awards (the AU Grammy's). She is beloved but is ignored by radio and was shunned by Sony. She's been performing in her father's band since she was 12 years old (her brother is backing vocals and her dad is on the steel guitar on stage here). She had some pop hits in the 90s but her heart and soul is Country in her own style. She wanted to commemorate the 20th anniversary of this song because she loves Eminem, and she had the time to rearrange and compose this masterpiece during lockdown. She is showing so much emotion because she has lived this to a degree as well. She is now 48 years old and a mother of three. This recording is the first time it was ever performed live and was done at the end of the concert. They thought it went well, so they used the recording from the sound desk and asked their fans who were in attendance to provide any footage they had to composite this one together. While there has been no public approval from Em, she has been allowed to put this song up on Spotify without challenge.

listen, I'm an Aussie man who just turned 54 the other day and I, like most Aussie men i think, pride myself on being tough (emotionally and physically), resilient, hard working and willing to fight anyone. I'm not a fan of rap or country, but for some reason, my eyes well up listening to this. My theory is there's something primal going on where seeing and hearing a woman in pain brings up something from deep within that makes us men lose it. Please world, stop trying to turn men feminine and submissive and women aggressive and masculine. Vive la difference.

I think it’s safe to say Kacey “lost herself” in this and absolutely killed it. The whole band is amazing and razor sharp. There’s a reason they are all losing their minds on stage and absolutely in it. That comes from 1000 shows meshing together and knowing the shit out of their instruments. As a guitarist, there’s no better feeling, losing yourself on stage with band mates.

But as a sound guy I have to shout at the screen "YOU CANT HEAR THROUGH HAIR!!".. One of the best insulators there is! Casey is born in my State of South Australia.. And yes, thats a banjo.. she is ROCKING the banjo.. a proper 5 string banjo.. (the 5th tuning peg is half way up the neck) She grew up playing with her family country band, living in a van/bus touring across the country. That's her Dad stting down playing slide guitar.. and her bro on guitar/harmony vox. Eminem ALLOWED this to be released and used, he loved it when he heard it apparently. The ending is ROCKING and sounds like the ending of one of my favourite Pink Floyd song, "One of these Days" (check out the last 30 sec to 1 min) Hi, Liked and Subscribed from Adelaide, South Australia.. Kasey owns this song, She finds the pain and the feeling deep down and in true Kasey style it comes from the raw visceral emotions that she feels in the words of an amazing writer and rapper Eminem. If you know Kasey's music you know that when she goes for that banjo pic, SH1T is going to happen and all hell is going to break loose. She tears this song apart emotionally and reconstructs it in a whole new paradigm. By the way, the reaction on your face is priceless and exactly what we all felt the moment that pic came out and Kasey let loose. It was a quizzical look of interest and enjoyment to start and then it hits you and you're speechless. Amazing to see yet another convert looking surprised and blown away by her ability. @@SirSSau It’s a cover version / copy / whatever you want to call it. Either way If it wasn’t written she would have had nothing to ‘copy’. Did she alter the words? No, she COPIED them. The song won a Grammy far more so for its lyrics than the music. It is indeed a great version, I love it, but the talent is in creating something, copying / covering it is far easier. You have the benefit of hearing it a gazillion times and playing around with what might sound good. Especially over time. And what Eminem created was original and his own. What Kasey did is copy and change something that someone else created. That is why original artists get royalties from other artists who cover their songs. Paul McCartney wrote Yesterday, the most covered song in history. There is literally 1000s of them. And I’m sure there are some covers that many might think sound better than the original. But no one will remember them in 5/10/20 years time. They’ll only remember who wrote and performed the original. Like I said it is a great version, but it won’t be remembered. The original will. You’re clearly not an artist of any description if you can’t understand that basic concept.

@@Bluemusic66 Just let it go mate, it’s ok lol Rappers do it all the time with beat samples, which is much easier to make a song to a beat, than to rearrange a whole song like she’s done, and make it better. Go listen to Ed Sherrran’s cover of this song.

After you listen to this version a few times, go back and listen to Eminem's version. It will sound brand new after you get used to this one.

I hope Jarrett & your son are ok. I didn't like the idea of hyping your SO up on Kasey's rendition of this, before having him drive your son, but he seems chill enough. To see Kasey's original music in a journey of 3 parts, may I suggest (in chronological order): The Captain; Not Pretty Enough; Ain't No Little Girl. The Captain was one of her earlier hits; but she never got airplay on commercial radio, so asked if she was Not Pretty Enough; then she's grown into the goddess she is, but relationships still hurt, but she's not going to break down & cry, because she Ain't No Little Girl.

Lol they're perfectly fine! Jarrett is very chill and a great driver, especially with our kids in the car! Oh awesome I love taking things chronologically!

@@KelseasComments Ok. You NEED to see his video “HOW COULD YOU LEAVE US.” And then “THE SEARCH.” Your life will no longer be the same.

Not the same energy dude.. Kasey sang 4 minutes of anguish then exploded into 4 minutes of anger. And dude didn't appreciate her singing quality. Dude needs to open his mind to his wife's level.

Hey Bronte. I've been letting Kelsea get away with the pronunciation because it's cute. Maybe I should start schooling her on how to talk Ozzy. Mate will be the starting point. LOL. Arvo, mate.

In Kelsea's defense there was no "monetary element" involved. She did this on Patreon as a surprise for me, because I said I loved Kasey's Em cover. So, what are you talking about??? Maybe an apology is in order? And when you write stuff, make the sentences readable. I hope you are not an Australian. I told her Ozzies are nice people.

No he didn't because he doesn't own the copyright to the song. The Bass brothers own most of his early music copyrights through their Eight Mile Style publishing company.
