I never really got into Adventure Time, Finn and Jake werent really characters I grew to like so I stopped after a few episodes. (The plot synopsis and creators have communicated on multiple occasions that it is directly linked to the storyline and characters of the original show.) So if you want to watch an unintelligible collection of plot continuations and references, do what you like. But the spoilers for the og show and the lack of context for the new will probably ruin both for you.

From what I can tell, _especially_ with the other trailer, they would get more out of it if they finished the entirety of Adventure Time first. All 10 seasons. And maybe even the Distant Lands post-series movies. There's a chance that this new series is structured to be its own thing, that would just hold impactful references for people who had seen the original. But I'm worried that it's more of a direct continuation that relies heavily on the original show. If you haven't seen all of Adventure Time yet, I seriously recommend you don't watch this when it airs!!

Really quick if you pause at the right moment towards the end of the trailer when ice king is hanging upside down, you can actually see a grown up Finn climbing while holding the rope where ice king is hanging. Im very interested in seeing whats going to happen because it looks like Fiona somehow finds her way to Ooo.

The setting follows Rick and Morty rules but the Ice King plot apparently takes place after the very relevant Adventure Time finale, so people are correct to warn about spoilers! In other words, respectfully, only watching 5 seasons won't help. Enjoy catching up, the second half of the show is great!

Having seen the entire show many times I can tell you that this trailer contains many detailed plot references that are understandable to those familiar with the total plot. Fionna and Cake in their Adventure Time episodes are just stories Ice King made up. If I were to guess this show is gonna follow Ice King remembering his early life personified through the story of Fionna and Cake, as if they lived in Simon's time. But that's just my theory.

YO. Okay... spoilers for the boys and for whoever hasn't finished Adventure Time and its associated spinoffs and specials. Seriously, spoiler warning. Don't scroll further. Okay so as we all know, reincarnation is real. At the end of their lives, Finn and Jake decide to reincarnate together and presumably become Shermy and Beth. It's not only possible, but VERY probable, that they were _other_ people in past lives. Is Ice King's fanfiction some sort of insane garbled memory of two very real characters, Fiona and Cake, who are actually previous lives of Finn and Jake from around the time of the Mushroom War? Is this extremely obviously what they're going for? This is the first I'm seeing of the trailer lmao

No, I don't think that's what's going on here. ADDITIONAL SPOILER WARNING FOR THE ENTIRE SHOW AND DISTANT LANDS, DO NOT READ FURTHER YOU MANIAC. We see the memories of Fiona & Cake being beamed into Ice King's brain in an Adventure Time episode. We also see Simon in the end Montage of the main show in Prismo's time room. Betty merged with Golb. An interdimensional world eater. Since prismo shrugs at Simon in the montage, it can be inferred that Golb/Betty is too strong for his wish powers. But, the enchiridion/prismo can allow interdimensional travel and reality alteration. (See the episode "Crossover"). Simon in this is the cured Simon from the end of the main show. He has extra wrinkles along with more naturally greying/white hair. He is aging now that he is free of the crown's magic. (He is being held aloft by adult Finn in that upside down shot indicating the passage of time). Simon is dimension hopping attempting to track down Golb/Betty in order to free her from him. He is chasing the world eater to doomed dimensions/timelines in an attempt to interact with it and save her if he can. Fionna and Cake are linked to him due to the "beaming into his brain" thing, which I'm sure will be explained in more detail. Perhaps that connection means Simon recruits them / allies with them to save Betty and potentially stop Golb from eating F&C's dimension. (Also the young Marcy and Crown Simon in the mushroom war that we see in this trailer either could be an alt dimension the characters travel to for some reason, or a flashback. Or both. We'll see.) Bit of speculation here and there, but that's my take. (Also the official synopsis when the show was announced a few years ago said it was Simon dimension hopping so that pretty much confirms at least some of this).
