Yeah, you don't really need formal chef training, a lot of experience will get you to pretty decent food. I like the "learning by doing" approach since it's so much closer to reality than getting official training. More people should cook at home again and just showing someone trained do cool stuff doesn't help but make people feel inferior. We need more Jamie's - the type of "crap, I need to turn this into something edible the kids don't spit out" kinda cooking. Sure it's not going to be fine dining, but good home fare is great for everyone else.

I love her "you change things into desserts so you go first," turning potato into a dessert isnt actually as hard as it could be. Theres ube mochi and other desserts like that in asia, so i assume you could take those inspirations and create something with a regular potato. theres also candied potatos, Ive had a delicious potato bar dessert, with like a cookie pastry base, a layer of sweetened potato mash and like a type of jelly on top? I dont remember clearly but it was so good.
@TheMrVengeance3 жыл бұрын
I think the point is that it works when you use potato as an ingredient for something else, like a donut or beignet or mochi or as a form of mash. Whereas I think Barry got kind of stuck trying to come up with how to have a potato, just a potato, as dessert.
@Niniel28b2 жыл бұрын
@@TheMrVengeance I agree to a point. But there is actually a traditional danish dish where that happens: You put sugar on a pan and turn on the heat and wait for it to start melting and the moment it starts to brown you put butter through it and start stirring so it doesn't burn. Then you put small potatoes that are already boiled and put them on there and keep turning them through the caramel. It will coat the potato and permeate the outer layer and make the potato really lovely. And now you have caramelized potatoes and a caramel sauce. If you add some nuts and some cherries and a little bit of youghurt or vanilla ice cream and possibly some crumbled biscuit to that plate I think that would be absolutely lovely. Traditionally these caramelized danish potatoes are served with pickled red cabbage which also gets a little bit of sweetness as well as sourness. Would work well actually too I think.

It would be nice to have a pass it on where each one of the guys choose which ingredients they are going to use. Like the last one chooses which ingredients the first one can use, the first one chooses the ingredients that the second can use and so goes on
