I distinctly recall a video, unsure of who, where they debunked the need for eggs in a boxed cake mix. So you may just need oil, water and cake mix. I assure you, the edible is an integral part of the baking process.

I love it when all three of them are battling at the same time. It makes for a more entertaining video. But I have to disagree with Ebbers not necessarily on the final decision although I do think that Jamie‘s dish was the one that was most inviting, But on his idea that the chips needed to be crumbled on top. The two dishes together we’re already providing a textual contrast. You don’t need them together on one dish. One thing does not need to have all the texture is going on at once.
@no_activity2 жыл бұрын
Plus, it's rude to do that to the main dish in a family style setting.

Agreed. Honestly, I prefer to have my textures separate and don't quite understand the fixation on having all the textures together in a single bite. While I typically lean towards Jamie's dishes, since I love heavy savory foods, Ben was absolutely right saying most people would make Mike's dish. I will be trying it. It seems like something that can produce consistently stunning results. I gotta critique a little though. While I don't know the exact texture of Jamie's noodles, why crumble his side dish on the top? I've never seen anyone crumble the garlic bread on top of their ziti, Alfredo, or spaghetti? I don't see people deep frying the pine nuts in their pesto. I think it's perfectly acceptable to have the crunch as a side.
@HuSoph2 жыл бұрын
Yes, but I think it would be akin to the cracker crumb topping on top of a Newburg or mac & cheese. So there's definitely dishes that use a crunchy topping as balance.

@@BooTeaCheeks I think it's more the lack of pasta being al dente (because it isn't actually dried pasta) and therefore needs a crunch/bite to the noodle dish rather than a side of pure crunchiness. I mean most normals follow recipes already written by others quite regularly. They're just a little more involved in the recipe making. I'd put them at like pretty experienced/decent home cooks. @madelineedelstein74602 жыл бұрын
I might be wrong, but I kinda feel like Mike deserved at least second place. He was told to make a dish with five ingredients and he made a delicious dish that actually had five ingredients. He didn't finagle eleven extras in for the sake of fitting the brief and he didn't make a dish that could have been made better by using simpler and cheaper ingredients. Yeah, it was simple, but the point of a five ingredient meal is that it's meant to be simple. He shouldn't get last place for sticking to the heart of the challenge and choosing a dish that actually only needed five ingredients to be at its best.

Challenge idea: Small space challenge. Chefs get a limited amount of surface space, only the ice box of a freezer or fridge, a limited amount of oven space, a kettle and a toaster, 2 saucepans, a basic frying pan, one roasting dish, one baking tray and have to make a dinner and a lunch for one person. Having lived a number of years in rented accommodation, often alone, I know the challenge of trying to cook in tiny spaces and have something tasty, cheap and healthy. Microwaves were out unless you wanted to sacrifice the toaster. Freezers were seldom provided. And even space to keep equipment meant what you could have was pretty small. I know this is the reality for a lot of people and while I'm now blessed with a freezer and microwave the notion of having a food processor or mixer is just not an option.

I just started the sidekick trial, and the five ingredient meal pack is perfect for me right now. I moved recently, so I have almost no pantry staples. The first dish I tried was the risotto, which I’ve never had before, and it was the best thing I’ve made or even eaten in a while. And it was easy to substitute some of the more expensive ingredients too. Last week I replaced the pancetta with finely diced ham, and it cost me probably about 1/5 of the price, maybe less? I’m also living alone and haven’t really had to cook for just myself since lockdown started. This app is saving me time and effort, and helping me to avoid food waste!! Or not having enough to eat, which leads to takeout…

I would "snuggles" Barry the most... He's my #1... but, I am still open minded. Grats and good job!

Alright, I'ma say it and be the voice of chaos: I will likely make Jamie's pizza dough crisps, dust them with light brown sugar, and then dip them in Mike's Mousse. Broad enough dish, and it sounds like a good socializer at the end of a party with the right audience.

Mike’s dessert was the best imo. I’ve been making Alton browns moo-less pie for years and it’s a family fave. I think I’ll try this version next!

Mike got good with ventriloquism at the end there! Wonderful video as usual guys!

Can we just talk about Barry’s presentation for a minute? That’s some top tier plating sir

Mike's sweet dish sounds good because it actually uses good food as its base. Really appreciate that Mike prechecked the biscuits. Thank you, lol. Most accessible recipe, except no boozy cherries in my pantry... Jaime is also picking on Japanese food. His dish seems sloppily made compared to the precision of anything the Japanese do. That they are springy noodles could be a Japanese innovative thing, though. Done the Barry hack of taking 'an ingredient apart' (ie olives from) and using it elsewhere, to make do.

Seriously, that silken tofu hack has stayed with me since you talked about it and I've found so many uses for it in my own cooking. It's incredible in both savory and sweet dishes. I would not have heard about it if not for you all!

Barry's super ridiculous pulling ingredients apart really turns me off to his dish, so he'd have actually been my third place. If we're going for creativity without being too much, I'd give Jamie first place, but honestly I think simplicity wins and I'd definitely make it myself... My top would be Mike's. Thus I'd say on most palatable as a meal: 1. Mike 2. Jamie 3. Barry

I think you made the right call. Barry's dish looked restaurant quality. I'll 100% steal aspects of it (nduja scallops anyone?) but I'm not likely to make that whole thing at home. Mike's, on the other hand, is not only something I can see myself making, but I'm already thinking of variations on it in my head as well!

Use ginger snaps instead of the amaretti cookies, then make the tofu custard with pumpkin puree instead of chocolate. Crystallized ginger instead of the cherries... soak it in whiskey. Thinking something like that would be excellent.

Since I have a Dairy allergy, the only one I could eat is Mike's. That is O.K. though because I really like tofu.
