I know many Cardiff fans had no time for the soul crew whatsoever, like most of the hooligan firms of the day, they would steam through somewhere and disappear, leaving real football fans to face the aftermath and revenge, I remember coming back from forest and the soul crew were bullying a young forest fan on the train, some older Cardiff from Merthyr put them in their place and told them to leave him alone, that’s real fans.
@je65213 ай бұрын
Had they filled in the soul crew application form and got there badges?..because to be in the soul crew you have to fill in the 25page application form do a series of interviews then a 7 day escape and evade the transport police police Then we got to trace your family routes all the way back to the first century..then and only then you might get in...

Great podcast. Two good lads to be fair. The story about the Zulus kicking hotel doors in Glasgow looking for Annis is poor form after Annis was asked over to talk to some of the main lads as a 'guest'. Just shows once the drink and charlie starts flowing respect can disappear fairly quick. Good respect shown to many firms like Wolves, Tranmere, Huddersfield, Boro,Newport, Bristol, Forest, Zulus, Pompey etc No problem owning up to being done. Good honest chat. Hats off to Annis and Jon.

Speaking as a 60 year old who left this scene many years ago but still follow Newport home and away we had many a ding dong with Cardiff, most times we weren't even playing each other. Cardiff were always the big boys in terms of numbers but they were pleasantly surprised many times by Newport & the honest lads down there always admit it. We've all got mutual friends in both cities now & can enjoy a civilised beer together but back in the 80s it was pure hatred. Happily those days are in the past.

Bank holiday Monday , Easter 1990 is the game Jonathan is on about when the jacks turned up at the Grange. They had a coach to Barry then came in on the train . One of the first times they made an effort . They were then escorted to Tudor Road and marched to the ground. After the game 30 Cardiff went to Barry and had it toe to toe with 50/60 Swansea outside the Barry hotel. Swansea’s best there but couldn’t shift the 30 Cardiff who were mostly Barry, Ely, Neath and Port Talbot

One thing I will say for Cardiff City - They still had 1980s level turnouts up until the early 2000s, a long time after the game was dead for near every other British club. I was at the FA Cup game in 2002 when you done us, a brilliant hostile atmosphere that we won't see the likes of again. The new ground I think sadly has finished you off. Respect, a Leeds fan 👍

But he said a lot of people were old enough to be going in the 80's but didn't fancy it cos it was on top, but when Cardiff suddenly start taking 300 everywhere in the 90's, all these superstars came on the scene when there was safety in numbers. Just what he said. He reckoned the different factions and areas all hate each other anyway. Always falling out. And most other groups didn't like Evans and his lot. I wouldn't know. Just what he told me. 🤷♂️

The boys are kind to them, I moved up there the following year and they greatly respected Cardiff. Muffy knows we chased them around a car park in the centre.
