Newport v Merthyr final was 86/87 absolute chaos, after that we went out of the league in 1988 but Hartridge rugby club played in the Cup final at the Arms Park on 4 occasions, all the Newport lads went to those finals and Cardiff turned up for the dance. Crazy days but thank God they're behind us now. UTC

I got great memories of Cardiff during the 80's when both our clubs were sliding through the league to division 4. Had a knife pulled on me at Ninian Park as we came out the ground around 1987. Cardiff didn't have huge numbers back then but were always very game. Brought an impressive mob of around 400 to Wolves around 2003. Those days are long gone but Soul Crew were always rated very highly by us. Very enjoyable Central Club, thank you - Wolves

Wolves here , was at Ninian pk in 87 when train got stopped on way back just outside Cardiff Central .carriages got blasted by half enders never forget the sound , most old bill I've ever seen for a div 4 game that day . In 2003 true CCFC brought numbers to wolves , but that was the biggest turn out by wolves at molineux I would say ever at least 500 /750 . As we know lads it was in its dying days by then " the scene".

Speaking as a Swansea supporter (not hooligan) who used to go away during the First Division days under Toshack….. I can honestly say that Swansea did not seem to have a regular/organised 'Inter-City' hooligan following like for example Leeds, West Ham or Chelsea etc where hundreds would hop onto a early arrival 'private- travel’ train(s) as opposed to a club arranged and escorted 'football special' to cause repeated chaos in other cities. But the Swans did indeed have many hundreds of hooligans who would turn up in large number(s) for cherry picked games like Cardiff. Only to then mysteriously disappear into thin air. What used to bug me was their lack of loyalty, because many were indeed casual not just in dress, but in support, to the extent where they would disappear for many months on end, only to reappear when a notorious team was playing. I used to see them on the Grange Town End and think "one or two game a season wonders". I never classed many of them as serious supporters outside of hooligan persona. If only they had turned up (not just to cause trouble) to support the club when other less notorious clubs were playing. Pop and crisps supporters rule btw.

@@Disorder1889 Great take on things! But me must make allowances for some people who think it truly matters. So here goes.... A case of all the 'top-boys' being 'on show by 'giving it the 'biggun' at the very front of the escort and they were all 'game lads', every one a 'dresser' and not a single 'scarfer' in sight. And boy didn't the 'old bill' arf have their hands full trying to protect the other 'firms local boozer', because we're talking about real 'lads' here and they did not even feel the need to be 'tooled up' when in somebody else's 'manor'. In fact they had 'mobbed up' in real numbers, with everyone wearing the proper 'gear', because 'casuals' always wear the right 'clobber' and do not turn up wearing ASDA George clothing. And if they were 'nicked'? It was right into the back of the 'wagon' after a 'right old tear up' on somebody else's 'turf' after 'taking the home end' by 'having em all on their toes, cos they 'run em' all over town.

You had to walk behind the away team stand to leave Nin park, and I was no soul crew, just always joined in if the fighting started. While Millwall were throwing bricks or whatever I assume they were ripping off their stand, I was stupidly stood against the corrugated iron wall at the bottom between Millwall above at the top of their stand and the exit gully down below millwall as Cardiff were throwing things up to Millwall, and Millwall were throwing things down. Some brave cardiff hooligans climbed up and dove into the millwall stand, and likely left on a stretcher since there were some big Millwall hooligans who likely trained for such moments. So, me stood against the corrugated iron watching the millwall madness above, a full sized brick slammed into the corrugated iron skimming my ear, so someone from above threw a brick full force from an elevated position at my head, and if they were a better shot I would not be alive to be writing this now, or would had had major reconstructive surgery and/or brain damage. We go though life dwelling on the bad luck we suffered, but don't bless the good luck because we lost nothing from it. I have survived many things by luck and will to survive in my life, but listening to this made me remember that one. It's funny, because I heard about Annis (spelling) being top boy of soul crew since I was a kid, and he says the less in this podcast. The guy who said he does not want to be considered the top boy or anything special has the most the say and keeps stealing the attention. So, if I had to bet Annis has the less to prove because he has the most clout and everyone knows it.

Yes, but when the one who makes a point that they don't want recognition, keeps talking over others to get the recognition, and the highest profile one says the least and has nothing to prove, it's telling. Spot on about Bristol. As a city lad (no more) we always had the numbers but Rovers have a very decent and widely respectable mob. Although since the early 80s the casual thing in the city is a bit like the Cardiff Swans thing - we always travelled up theirs whereas they’ve been to our just once for a game, the exception being when 100 odd came to Bedminster after an away game and had a pop at out main boozer (3 lions), with little to report. Rovers are mainly north Bristol whereas city are south. Strangely, being brought up in Weston Super Vegas, it is about 50/50 there despite being 20 miles south of the city. Top listen yet again.
