Can I just say how refreshing it is to hear somebody say "I didn't need a college degree to succeed, but some people might"? Nothing irritates me quite as much when people talk in absolutes- either "college is a waste of money", or "I wouldn't date somebody without a college degree". How hard is it to realize that circumstances are going to vary from person to person? Good for you, man. That's open-mindedness right there.

I have a PhD in Mathematics. Would I date someone less educated than me? of course I would. There are many different types of intelligence, academic intelligence is just one of them. If a girl has a passion for, say art. She doesn't need to be educated to be an artist. Being a nice, genuine person. Making me happy, being happy together, is much more important than being educated.
@DeltaFilmAdventures7 жыл бұрын
Lord Chumpington your comment has made my day.
@miguelrubin89217 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with what you said :). Being happy together is the most important thing ! I wouldn't, however ,say that : passion for art isn't entwined also with academic inteligence and that you do have to be educated to be an artist! I speak this as an M.A in Visual Arts, even though the arts don't require logical-mathematic intelligence ( 1 of the 7 types) it does require visual and spatial intelligence , both of wich also have their space for academic production and require education to develop. I get the point you made, I just think you were unhappy with the example. In the end though it's just as you said "Beeing nice and genuine " is the key ! ^^
@daryamineeva67567 жыл бұрын
Lord Chumpington yeah, MAN, I agree at some points but... I'm gonna get an education close to math (i live in Russia, we have really complicated names for barchelor degrees) & i would never date someone who doesn't know how to make money. I am a girl and want a wealthy family not a special snowflake. There would be times when I wont be able to make money. U see, the other problem is that loving art is not hard at all. So I'd rather date someone ambicious and serious about life rather than someone so irresponsible. Also, we have free education and it's really good, so not having a degree would be considered as a total laziness. So I would only marry someone with a good degree. Also I'm not that stupid and well read, have taste im music and movies. So my main focus in people is brain. But I would totaly do a one night stand with someone stupid and pretty. Sorry for mistakes

Much more successful financially, or socially, athletically, romantically, in arts and crafts, etc....indeed, there are many different ways to shine, so to speak. and academics isn't the only thing out there one can excel at. There are also things that need to be done for society yet don't require lots of brains. I appreciate the people who drive the garbage trucks and clean public bathrooms so that this country can be nice to live in. If everyone decided to be professors or simply study theoretical stuff for a living, life in America would be significantly less pleasant.
@factisfact94264 жыл бұрын

@ЯфКДВНСКБНСДГДЙФВБЦНВВН4 жыл бұрын
@@factisfact9426 Thanks for the compliment there. And yes, I actually do think that American society would collapse if everyone had an IQ above 120. Those who are very academically inclined have valuable talents but still suck at many things that other people are good at. That is why diversity exists. Unfortunately, due to this long-standing idea that not going to college means you'll be loser, there is an actual shortage of workers in certain occupations that require nothing more than apprenticeships or vocational school. Schoolchildren have been brainwashed for decades into thinking that bluecollar jobs are only for losers. It's kind of ironic, though, because it is extremely common for people with college degrees to be working in retail. All of the baristas who work at my neighborhood Starbucks have degrees in liberal arts and they are suffering! Many degrees are useless now, not just for work, but even for making you smarter. So much of the content has been watered down in the less selective American colleges. So yes, I do respect people who clean the bathrooms WAY more than many "academics" out there, especially those who are teaching bogus courses in some weird subject area. As for the janitors, they are actually doing something that benefits society directly. Someone who gets paid to lecture students on arcane gender theories in medieval France is not really helping much usually. The students will also likely have tons of debt that they'll never be able to pay off. And the only job they'll be able to find is at Starbucks or something else that doesn't require a university degree.

Less education doesn't mean 'stupid'. I agree. The problem is that one should never underestimate the power of the male ego. Many men have trouble dating women with more education. In the beginning they say it is fine, then they come up with excuses for why the didn't finish college. I can tell when someone has a college education just by their conversation alone. I would. If someone offered me a couple million or even just a million to trade in my education I would do it in a heartbeat. Amber W Amber W agreed. I know a lot of people who graduated college and are dumb. A lot of people graduate college just cause and they barely get by just for validation. And after graduating they have no desire to keep learning and doing their own research on current events and other topics. I also know people who didn't graduate and are just as smart as those who did, or smarter.

I don't like to bring it up usually because I don't care much for boasting but in this case I felt it was related. My IQ is 145, but I don't feel the urge to go to college for a chance to get a job in an overflowing market. I'm choosing another route that does not require a college education and I don't believe that it should reflect the level of intelligence or ambition you have. I've found that I connect a lot better with women who can challenge me intellectually, that was the reasoning behind my comment.

Moving Target Not a college degree, those are just nuts & bolts for ppl wanting to get a job. But a degree from a good uni or a postgrad, especially one in the social/political sciences, psychology or law: those do indicate a certain level of intelligence & intellect, a basic (educated) understanding of the world and an ability to discuss a variety of topics with confidence.

This was so pleasing to see them have similar views yet different ones. The girl was very open minded and recognized the possibility that his career choice didn’t need a college education. Although I feel that the videos title was a tad misleading in the sense that “dating someone less educated” doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re not intelligent. For example: the man in this video clearly handled himself well and acquired knowledge from his family rather than spending thousand of dollars on a degree that wouldn’t help him excel in his career of choice. In a way, I would consider him very smart in the fact that he recognized that and took that opportunity to invest his money elsewhere.

My boyfriend is less educated than I am. True, it's frustrating at times speaking to each other and referring to things we don't know of. For example, my guy doesn't even know the Merchant of Venice or any of Shakespeare's plays (he doesn't like to read and has only heard of Romeo and Juliet so far; never mind War and Peace or the Handmaid's Tale) so he can never get the puns and quotes. He doesn't like philosophy either and he has quite a poor logical thinking (no fun for me to debate with him about world affairs; he considers arguments as fights/clashes and wants to avoid them). He didn't like museums or theaters much before he met me (and is often dragged to those places lol.) Yet, he is so amazing with his craftsmanship. He's good with metal and wood and bricks and trees, and all the things I am not good at. (I can never run a household myself; it would be disastrous.) He can cook anything and fix anything. He handles kids and animals with simple magic of compassion. he grows flowers and fruits for me, plays guitar for me, and dries my hair every time I wash it. He drags me to go out more and to exercise (yup I suck at sports). I never had an interest in gardening, but this man taught me the importance and pleasure of the greens. He cools me and makes me let go of unnecessary materialistic ambitions. I don't know... Many say he's dull and can never understand my mind, so I will never be touched in the soul. But for me he's good enough. What use do I have of another bookworm guy? I have plenty bookworm and academic friends all my life to spar words with. At home I want something different and refreshing, someone to show me new side of life. In my country we call a spouse 'samorn' which literally means 'where we die' meaning people you want to go to when it's your last breath, like to die in his/her lap. In my opinion, that person doesn't need the same level of education you have, you just need to be able to lay your head in that lap and know it is safe, true, and full of love.
@persianpoison7 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I needed to read this. I guess i was scrolling through the comments to find something like this. I am in a very similar situation. Infact the first paragraph literally could not have described my partner better :) I have friends and relatives who think i have "settled" below my intellectual level. I used to get all my "intellectual stimulation" through friends, books and internet even before i met him , right? so what has to change after getting a partner? why does the partner have to be a source of everything and has to be superior than you in every aspect? He is the source of emotional security, warmth and intimate connection for me which, by the way , i was definitely not getting from friends, books and internet. That is more valuable for me than the intellectually fulfilling debates over books, current affairs and all. Like you said, he's good enough, for me. I feel validated with your comment :) It is good to see someone happy and content in a situation like mine.

@AliciaStyleAndGrace7 жыл бұрын
"But for me he's good enough" ouch!. I hope you really are truly happy. I think it's definitely conceivably possible but FOR ME (we are all different) it would be so unfulfilling. Your first paragraph is beautifully written and the reason I have ended relationships. I used to feel guilty (for feeling like I was judgmental/close minded) and stay with partners who were less educated and frankly just generally less intelligent than I. But I always ended up feeling so unsatisfied. There was this part of me these partners could never see or understand. I wanted them to come into my world but they felt so uncomfortable in it. And i felt incomplete outside of it. I want a partner who wants to discuss literature and engage in a heated debate about politics and world events. I want a partner that has travelled the world in search of the best museums. One who wants to continue this search with me by their side. I don't ever want to settle for anything less again. We are all unique in our needs and I no longer feel guilty for knowing exactly what I want. I don't think it's judgmental. It's just honest to who I am and what will make me happy. We all deserve that.

The original comment is that a piece of paper (apparently referring to a college degree) doesn't justify how educated you are, but it does. Try applying to a job or internship based on a mere self-assertion that you read thick books. Let me know how that goes. The point of a college degree is that there is verification by a (hopefully) respectable institution that a student has undergone a course of study. Even an independent study program is overseen by some institution.

I'm think I'm actually really good looking, intelligent, and funny.. But, I'm unmotivated and have no ambitions.. I lack the want or need to be surrounded by people and would prefer most of my days to be spent watching KZbin and movies.. The good qualities are *WAY* overshadowed by the bad. This is why I will be single...for a long time.

I personally do not think that education is the most suitable measurement to determine your life partner. I've been living in this world for many many years now, and I've met people who claimed that they received high quality education, but the things that came out of their mouth made them alike those cavemen from 2000 B.C. Have you seen the news about those Harvard students who spew preposterous racial jokes in group chat? It's rather appalling. High education does not guarantee a person's emotional maturity, intelligence and humility as a human being.

Alan Rover But it does increase the chances of being mature and humble.

Had I been born in a better place, I would've agreed with you. Sadly from where I'm from, many of the privileged and educated saw the flaw of the system, exploited the poor and treated them poorly. Their minds brilliant, their hearts rotted with greed... which is a terrible combination. The young and hopeful had ideas and aspirations, all but silenced by their budding age. The young and educated have no voice and place here. Perhaps indeed what you said is true, but I also think the environment in which we grow also come into factor. When youth is surrounded by the prideful, then that's what he or she will become.

Alan Rover There is this saying from where I'm from, translated it goes something like this, The tree laden with fruits always bends to the ground. Which means that those who are educated and I'm not talking about poems and equations but ideas which builds character. The truly educated are naturally kind and humble. It comes with education it should not have to be additionally taught. These boys and girls can be called intelligent but not educated.
