If I owned a time machine, it is Wanda's era on ST that I would be traveling to. There is just something so magical about 1971-1975. The music, the clothes, the hair styles, and of course, the confidence to be a pioneer in sometime so historic. Wanda is royalty to me.

The music is not the same any more it's not danceable music it's foolish rap. I work at a dance studio they are just learning dances from the 90's in Chicago. There's been a trend of all style dance competitions so these kids want to battle . But I do think internationally their dancing more because American dancers are teaching there -Locking, house, hip-hop, wacking, vogueing, some party dances. Then when there's competition always foreigners win because they love American black culture n they're disciplined!! I'm always proud when I see black kids get down because it is our legacy. I grew up up the hill from Mavericks Flat( Overhiil n Slauson) Crenshaw district, Baldwin Hills, Windsor hills, Inglewood, South Central was our stomping ground. We even painted the Crenshaw wall up 2001-20024 I did a Locking character on the wall!!😁😁😁👍🔥🙏🎶🎶🎶

I was born in 71 and graduated Dorsey High in 89, and while Wanda and her group was a little before my time, I still love hearing and seeing the history. We all grew up in the same areas and many went to the same schools, and I just loving seeing what "life" was like for those who came before me, as well as from those who came after. It's always nice to take a walk down memory lane, especially while wearing some one else's dancing shoes.

Soul Train taught me how to dance back then.. Soul Train would come on every weekend, and i was in military school back then. and there was usually just 2 of us that watched it, our barracks counselor/supervisor (he was a black dude about 28 i think) and myself. anyway he's reason i starting watching Soul Train, and i started practicing those moves until i was pretty good by age 12/13. then when the Disco era came along, what i call the disco era, 75-80, i was all set! by age 16 i was getting into clubs, venues etc. couldn't get enough of it. and it was easy getting in for me, i was real tall for my age, 6' by age 14. so ya, Soul Train put the fire in me, and got me dancing and boogieing back then! and i like it all, dancing or Skate Rinks, cus most of the Skate places played Disco back then. we had a nice one, arcades, food, everything. some good times. then Saturday Night Fever came out, the Bee Gees all that, just stoked the Disco fire in everyone! ☮

....i IDOLIZED HER and EDDIE CHAMPION COLE ...i watched them like a HAWK....their routines were always so POLISHED...i still do their moves too....the early to mid 70s was the best period because the emphasis was on SOUL....FUNK...and CREATIVITY....also there was such an emphasis on BLACKNESS...i just THANK GOD FOR THEM...i could see that all the REALLY CREATIVE DANCERS REALLY HUNG OUT WITH EACH OTHER ...i am very surprised that she didn't mention dancing for DIANA ROSS because DAMITA JO FREEMAN...WANDA...EDDIE and one other person danced with DIANA when she first did LAS VEGAS as a SOLO ARTIST...i remember reading all about it in RIGHT ON MAGAZINE...the PHOTOS WERE GREAT.....DAMITA JO CHOREOGRAPHED the SHOW....anyway i am so glad she looks AMAZING...and shared her wonderful experiences of being on SOUL TRAIN...i could see that there was a shift around 1978...a lot of the original dancers had grown up and had to start living adult lives so i didn't see them anymore which made me sad but that's life....i had to grow up to but i am so glad to see some footage and routines i never saw before plus great photos....EXCELLENT LOOK BACK...ON BLACK CULTURE...
