Typewriters are SO COOL UUUUGH. I looooove looking at old technology and seeing how people worked with what they had back then, it's flipping genius!

I have used typewriters for years until I got my first computer back in the 80's. The I sold my Adler Gabriele 25 at a boot fair (sadly). Now I have bought another Adler Gabriele 25 on e-bay and can't wait for it to arrive. I have a sneaking suspicion that I will be having another hobby very soon fixing old typewriters. In early 60's I worked for the Regna cash register Co in the UK and did a course in London on cash register repairs and maintenance, and typewriter repairs and maintenance so I have a bit of an inkling. Glad to see that there are a lot of folk buying old machines to use.

I had a Royal portable typewriter that belonged to my grandmother; it was built in the 1950's and was kept in extremely good shape. Needing space, I put it in a yard sale and it remained unsold. At the end of the sale, I gathered up everything that didn't go and took it down to our local Goodwill, thinking maybe someone without a lot of money may need something like that. I watched in horror as four workers unloaded everything from the back of my truck and deposited things into different dumpsters. I couldn't speak! Antique dishes shattered, decent clothing was tossed like dishrags and worst of all...I heard my Royal meet it's demise with a most sickening thud. I was too shocked to say anything, just drove off thinking how it would've helped tremendously had I been told beforehand or there had been a sign informing me that it was actually a Goodwill RECYCLING center!! :(

I've always loved the sound of a typewriter, and always loved to play on my mother's when I visited her at work. Great grammar and spelling skills, by the way. That was a relief...

This was lovely. :-) Nostalgic, indeed. Even thought it's all mechanic, the little mistakes and even the weave of the ribbon that's captured by each letter makes the whole thing very personal.

Nice and relaxing video. I got the same typewriter recently (well, the olivetti lettera 32, made in mexico model) and I'm loving it. Maybe you should replace your ribbon (unless you like that kind of faded look, which is also cool).

It has, indeed. I was lucky enough to find one for less than 25 bucks. I love this machine, it's so smooth to type in, though the smaller key size is annoying at times.

my Olivetta Leterra 32 has much better type, much darker but I suspect that simply because I bought a new ribbon for it. I'm addicted to it. This vid captures the beautiful sound that envelopes you when you are using one of these things, they are magnificent. Remember, there is no spell checker or cut'n paste. You have to get into the zone with these things

I've always felt the lyric version of the song "why, God?" by Austen French would have sounded so much better with a typewriter typing out the words because of its visual style. This fits perfectly with it, I'll probably start listening to the song with this in the background, or create an alternate version with the typewriter sounds in it.

Looks like some hammers are damaged: look at the left bottom of the "o", or at the bottom serif of the "r". These typewriters aren't well protected from a typebar accidentally hitting the bottom of another that is still in typing position, and when it happens there's a risk to damage the typeface. Here in Italy a good price for a Lettera 32 in good shape is 20€ and no more. It sold well at it's times and there are a lot of them still around. I expect the prices to raise in the next 10 years.
