I think DB could increase some operating speeds on some lines even more, if you know what I mean. There's a significant flight-shame movement in Germany, so increasing rail operating speeds is the obvious solution to getting people to fly less. I think Berlin to Bonn by ICE in less than four hours is achievable if operating speeds are high enough. (High-speed rail competes much better with air travel if journey times are less than four hours.)

Good point. Also would help out a lot if one can buy a train ticket at a comparable price to a flight. Now unfortunately a train ticket can easily cost a triple or more of a flight ticket to the same destination and it doesn’t help with encouraging to do less flights
