The beat the red missiles make, reminds me of the beat from "Cellphone's Dead" by Beck. Maybe a demo version of that song was formed into this song.

I noticed a few people complaining about how this song won the VGA best song in a game award. Then I looked at the year previous and saw all the entries in this category were songs from Rockband and Guitar Hero and other rhythm games. At least this last VGA wasn't filled with those songs again.

I wish all of the levels in Sound Shapes were as innovative as the Beck Cities levels. They are genius. The way the lyrics interact with the game brings it all together. I really hope they release more DLC like soon.. I also hope they don't release more Death Mode levels. Those really made me angry!! They have way too much luck involved and it really drives you crazy when they don't spawn you anywhere near where you need to be.

@Leandro Aude I would say it is a bit of a double meaning. The message is probably about anti-war, but also, most likely, about rebuilding from the biggest downfall. The setting may indicate that war happened, but it could also mean that the person was devastated how his place became destroyed, and when the "ahhhs" disappear, the song becomes cheerful, implying that the person is starting to see reconstruction and moving on.

The little coins that you pickup add notes to the song which last 3 stages in each direction. Certain levels when you jump on/bump things it makes a noise. Essentially anything that moves in this causes a noise as well which is specific to the stage the object is on.

The song is actually generated by the objects on screen and the notes you pick up, how you play determines how the song sounds and how long it plays. There's no set pre-recorded soundtrack in the game, everything is built on the fly by individual sounds.
