+EQ-smoove - Creative differences during the Down on the Upside recording sessions between Chris Cornell, who wanted to explore more of the mellow tunes that allowed him to use his vocals to their full range, and Kim Thayil, who wanted to go back to the hard and heavy and guitar-intensive sounds as before Superunknown.

SoundGarden is one of those bands that with RARELY exceptions ALL the members are top level musicians, just like the Beatles or PinkFloyd, where all the members were talented and multifaceted. The bassist (Ben Shepherd) is a monster, the drummer (Matt Cameron) is a killer, the guitarist (Kim Thayil) is breathtaking in the tuning and complexity of the riffs, and Cornell sings like a God of Olympus, as well as playing very well, it's a band that has everything in terms of music, composition, chords, sonority, it's like a classical music show where the Maestro is rock n roll.

As a guitar player when you take the time and dissect these riffs, melody's and juxtapose synchronicities. Soundgarden was really unorthodoxed and don't even get me started on Cornell's vocal abilities while playing said chords. It's truly unbelievable, best songwriters hands down

First thought upon hitting play was, damn the tones is dead on. Like hell even the live studio cut w the video didn't have tones this close to the record. Chris especially he's tone is clean and crisp. I wish I could see his board better here.

Fell on Black Days is definitely one of their best live songs. The studio version sounds bland compared to their other masterpieces, but I'll never forget the first time I heard it live. When Chris started to belt out those high notes towards the end, the sheer power and emotion he put into them nearly made me cream my pants. The energy a live performance provides really brings this song to life. Chris is a legend.

+Soundtallica in Chains are you smoking crack? Their album version is amazing.
@BoxCarBoy128 жыл бұрын
drfunk1986 I know my opinion isn't popular, but I just don't like the album version very much. It's too polished to me, and filters out the emotion needed for this kind of song to work.

The video version is 100% and 1000x better than the studio release on the album, no doubt about it. That said, both are incredible.

I can't blame the crowd being that I got to see Soundgarden when down on the upside came out. They're so awesome you get hypnotized and maybe put in disbelief that you're seeing them. Sometimes it happens when you see a band as good as they are so you aren't necessarily screaming your head off
@Slowdough993 жыл бұрын
Music today filled with autotune like with Billie Eilish, masking the true voice, meanwhile this man could take a dingy microphone or a Dixie cup and sing to you like God himself was whispering in your ear. Truly a voice of unmatched depth and personal connection. People ask how one can be so consumed and moved by music, listen to this man sing, and tell how could you not. RIP my friend. "Never more than two drinks away, from crying".

That is some serious fuckin range and wailing by Chris in the second half to end of this song... He has amazing power and vocal ability but sometimes it doesn't always come through live.. then, there are the live songs or videos like this that come out..and even though it may not sound like the album, it is hard to deny, ignore, or not be hit by the sheer strength and fuckin' in your soul uniqueness that cannot be not experienced... I've had a toke and a few sips and whatever I just typed made sense in my head.. just sayin :)

I often wonder why he won't use a little reverb for leads, it all sounds rather plastic.
@MathisMade8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I hear you. Only reason I could think he wouldn't is that the rooms that they play in have enough natural reverb. We are also hearing the dry mic-ed up version of their amps. When I saw them live 2 years ago he killed it and he sounded amazing.
