This movie is a work of art. Its beyond the realms of screenplay structures and traditional storytelling. Its emotions and soul. The beauty of it is undeniable. This doesnt merely touches the heart, but stays in it forever. Grateful to Malick, Morricone and Nestor for creating this magic. My favorite film.

This film and Morricones tracks symbolizes America at the turn of the century. This type of creation is the beauty of the American Soul and the Will to survive. I am blessed to have enjoyed the depth of a people in our Heartland that remains timeless because of its existence. A gift that endures. Blessed writers crews and stars.

One of the most beautiful film soundtracks of all time, if the THE most. I love Bernard Herrmann's music, but Morricone upped Bernard with this one. Of course, the film is a total classic of emotion, drama, romance, realism and beauty. The pairing of this music with that film is a generally under-appreciated watershed moment in films.

I saw it when it was first released in 1978 in LA. The script, performance and score were indelible in the uniqueness of this film. It is a modern Greek tragedy and all the pieces fit so perfectly but what is is amazing is the setting...pre US entry into World War 1, in the panhandle of Texas (Alberta subbing). The beauty of the individual scenes....watching Woodrow Wilson's train passing through...the sudden arrival of the Italian flyers in their beautiful bi-planes the side comments by Linda Manz. This is a Malick's masterpiece.

No doubt to my mind. In fact to me it is the best movie I ever saw period. The music, the actors, the story and the music are of a stunning quality, beauty etc. I think Sam Sheperd played his role so so well. Geere wasn't bad either and so on. It is a case where we can understand everyone and feel sorry for the farmer but also the character played by Geere. Also, to me it is melancholic. I am unsure if ths portrays life at the beginning of last century well, but I see people workong, having a way of live etc that is simply totally gone. A look nto a past with a feeling that nothing they did lasted for more than a century. Kind a sad, at least to me.

Probably the best American film ever made (Trust by Hal Hartley a close second for me). Literally every constituent part is perfect - Almendros‘s cinematography, Manz‘s narration, Malick‘s direction and of course Morricone‘s music. Morricone never learned English so whenever he scored an English-language film he’d really have to play it by ear with the images on offer. What we hear pairs perfectly with what we see. Lush.

Ennio Morricone here presents us a very light and warm film score, that, well deserved, earned him an Oscarnomination (his first even!) in 1978. He also performs the second piece on the piano. The music was taken from the FSM release that features the original album tracks, the tracks as heard and used in the film (as they are presented here) and on a bonus disc: many, many alternate takes. I re-discovered this superb soundtrack thankfully, caused by the request of it. Hope you enjoy it as I do!

Just to show how these Oscars mimic the American mindset in which what is good in America must be good worldwide. No doubt there are many great American composers. But Morricone just getting this nomination in 1978 is telltale.

I’ve been on a soundtrack kick while cleaning today. A little while ago I heard Jane Erye by John Williams (through your channel I believe), then I heard Out of Africa by John Barry, and Days of Heaven from Morricone. They have something in common: they’re all composers who are tied to a particular director, film genre, or film franchise. BUT they’re also composers who, with the works I just mentioned, show that they be more than just the things they’re usually known for; that they can stretch themselves. I’ve never seen Days of Heaven but I’ve known of it. I didn’t know Morricone scored either. But wow is it good. Thanks for helping me discover this score, Soundtrack Fred 👍🏿

This has been my favorite of all films since the day I first walked into a theater to see it -- September 26th, 1978. I went out and bought the vinyl soundtrack and later, two additional copies because I knew I might wear the grooves out of the first. One is still shrinkwrapped. My first VHS tape purchased was so that a friend with a VCR could tape it off a cable feed. I had neither a VCR or cable at the time. It was the first factoryVHS I bought. The first DVD and later the first BluRay. By the way, I love this film.

Recht geschickt gemacht.

Hi Jim I bet that's true. All art is influenced somewhat by what's gone before. Days of Heaven put Saint-Saen's Carnival of the Animals to great use. John Williams used Gustav Holstv"The Planets" heavily for Star Wars. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Planets

@@MrBretHampton Yes of course, Holst! I love that composition it is magical and spacey! The song "Bring him Home" owes a lot to the humming chorus from Puccini's "Madama Butterfly", it still takes a unique talent to start with one of Puccini's basic ideas and develop it into a whole new song with a different meaning.
