I once saw a sign (actually a paragraph) posted in a Jimmy John's sandwich shop where all vowels were eliminated from the words in the text, and I could read it perfectly just about as fast as if the vowels were there. I was shocked. I also married an Arizona girl (Phoenix) in 1964. On our first night together she said what do you want for supper. Not knowing how well she could cook I decided to keep it simple so I said chili. Everybody knows how to make chili, right? Nope. I could tell she didn't know what to do so we went to the store and got the groceries for chili and I cooked the chili. She learned and did a lot of the cooking when I was working but I have always been the main cook in our house. That was my first surprise! But she was a keeper, we are still together 55 years in September.

Noreen, I'm a terrible biscuit baker--I don't have that delicate 'touch' needed. Despite that track record, I tried this recipe last night. This is the first biscuit recipe that I've made that has been truly fantastic! The whole family loved it. Thank you for the recipe and the video--especially the slow, patient way that you demonstrate how to knead and pat out the biscuits. I think I just needed someone that would show me how to work with the dough gently. And thanks to Bev from Our Half Acre Homestead for sending me this way!

That is a basic restaurant cutting/prep board. I bought mine at Sam's Club. They are around 10 bucks each and I go through a couple a year. I don't like it when they get nasty and cut up so I just buy a new one and that is why I started putting the colorful placemats on top because I can just throw those out when they get ugly and cut up instead of the board.

So the starter can stay in the fridge the whole summer without being touched and it's okay to bring it back? Great looking biscuits! God bless.
@tamirine14345 жыл бұрын
Those are some gorgeous looking biscuits! I never thought about cutting them that way. It seems like a much better idea than using a round biscuit cutter, then re-rolling the leftover dough, followed by a second cutting and re-rolling again and again until it's all gone. Each re-rolling results in a tougher biscuit. By the fourth or fifth generation, they often end up like hockey pucks. This square way, they are all first generation rolling tender. :-)

After a couple of failed attempts I finally have a sourdough starter going. It is so hot here in FL that I had to "throw out" some each time I made it or it would just sit & do nothing. I found some recipes to use what you would throw away & in another week or two I am going to start experimenting with it. Can't wait to try these biscuits.

A-E-I-O-U. The only vowels in the English language…The rest of the letters are used differently when it comes to reading or speaking correctly.. Good on you Noreen for using an elementary sing song for remembering how to use our language correctly..I think you are adorable.. And I love your vids..

Ok I tried it but have to twick the Recipe I’m at a way higher altitude than you so I upped my oven to 400 and since my butter didn’t have any salt in it I put 2 teaspoons of salt in it. Baking them now will let you know how they turn out, thank you so much for the recipe!!!

I gotta make these, they look so tender. I started a sourdough starter 10/18/18 and so far it's growing up very nicely. I was wondering if you have a recipe/video on fried sourdough doughnuts. Thanks

I just watched your sour dough biscuit video. I have a problem with my sour dough starter. I am feeding daily but it never rises or gets bubbles down in the jar. It will foam on top and make hooch. It has the yeast smell but like I said no rising. So what am I doing wrong?
@NoreensKitchenOfficial8 жыл бұрын
If your sourdough has been developed, you should not be keeping it on the counter after 8 days. You need to put it in the fridge and when you want to use it, bring it to room temp, then remove 1 cup then feed it and then use it in your recipe.
@danvanhoose67837 жыл бұрын
Would self rising flour work for these
@NoreensKitchenOfficial7 жыл бұрын
No because it will end up with too much baking powder in it. Self rising flour has that and we have no way of knowing how much. I never use self rising flour because I always have baking powder on hand. That way I know the baking powder is fresh.

making my first biscuits right now it doesn't seem like mine made as many biscuits as yours and mine was kind of dry so I added a little milk.
@NoreensKitchenOfficial8 жыл бұрын
Biscuits are not set in stone. Sometimes we need to add more flour or more milk. Depending on how large you cut the biscuits could be the difference.
@kordovaia7 жыл бұрын
What else have you baked with sourdough
@NoreensKitchenOfficial7 жыл бұрын
Lots of things. I have a sourdough playlist, you can find it on my channel. Lots of different breads, pancakes and biscuits.
@patricksherrill903411 жыл бұрын
Some starter recipes do call for yeast to kick start the process. Also if the area you keep your starter in is too cool it won't "sour" and therefore won't work.
