A French journalist coming all the way to detect and analyse environmental issues, and the department doesn't even bother to attend to it. Cases, petitions signed but all falls on death ears. Some not even aware but most decide to discard it. Disappointed and disgusted with my country 🤮

so issues like these will never make it on our media. Issues that affect the youth will never make it. but you will see a Smirnoff and brutal fruit advert 20 times before you go to sleep in the evening if you watch TV. which most south africans do between 5 and 9pm

In Zambia the city of KABWE is the most polluted from lead mining, over 100,000 women and children are thought to have sustained lead poisoning. The scale of lead contamination in Kabwe is devastating. Evidence shows that Anglo American was aware of widespread lead poisoning of local children and the environment while it was involved in managing and providing technical advice relating to medical and environmental operations of the Mine. This situation would not have been allowed to endure if it had happened in the Global North. Mining giant ‘turned blind eye’ to Zambia lead poisoning Plaintiffs argue that decades of mining have turned the Kabwe community into ‘one of the most polluted places in the world’.

Townships are formalised areas which includes former white suburbs and black townships. shanty towns are informal settlements that do not have bulk and social infrastructure. These informal settlements can be found in municipal land, abandoned farms and even in abandon buildings in the CBD.

Its bad but sometimes we bring this to ourselves, when the mines were operating no one stayed here but as soon as they closed,people move in establishing squatters camps close to previously restricted area's which end up being approved for RDP house due to pressures of availability of land ,the government is also not doing its job to hold the mining companies liable to rehabilitate lands they have mined to acceble standards, but they can never clean them completely.

We must take action on this issue! Please, everyone, let's share this across social media to raise awareness. Those affected deserve justice, and those responsible must be held accountable for their negligence!☣ I was deeply moved by Ntando's story, and I couldn't hold back my tears.😭 In the documentary, the only people who showed genuine remorse were the environmental geologist and the director of the NIOH. Meanwhile, hearing the Bulgari employees brush it off with such indifference was heartbreaking. Let's stand together for justice. 🌍 Kudos to Martin Boudot and his team for their incredible work in uncovering the truth.👏🏆

Would be great if your documentary production company can also do a segment on Haiti next... Particularly regarding the ecological disaster resulting from France demanding timber in compensation for the loss of their colony... Many western colonial industrialists have to answer for the ecological exploitation of the formerly colonized nations.

@suh-guy6 ай бұрын
It's not by choice they live there. As you saw these are poverty conditions. Finding a home somewhere else, let alone a solid house is impossible as homes don't buy themselves. As mentioned in the video, there are over 250 of these dunes, meaning the wind WILL still blow it into the air for everyone. The solution is for the mines to better deal with their waste. If authorities push them, believe me, the mines WILL come up with solutions.

I am a South African and saddened by this but at most, the mine tailings are there before the people. I understand they come to Jhb for job opportunities, how worthy are these jobs and opportunities they bring really? If you get stuck in one toxic place and even decide to start a family there because you can't afford to move. People must try and stop this bravery of erecting shacks anywhere. The gold mines must just take responsibility of the harm they bring to the environment.

Africa is the center of human tragedy in all the world today, as various contemptuous colonial empires of old Europe begin to withdraw and hand over self-rule to the original inhabitants of the various states and tribes of the continent. It appears it will take thousands of years for the trauma of apartheid racist domination to be undone, and until that happens, if ever, it will be a nightmare-- because the return of power to the subjects of white racist empire will for a long time simply repeat the abuses they endured, since those abuses became the currency of power, and nothing better can easily appear now. This is the ghastly outcome of imperialist colonial empire everywhere in the world throughout history, and it is completely predictable and completely inevitable.
