The woman who sued McDonald's for her coffee being too hot is probably one of the greatest examples of corporate slander. Look up the photos, please. The McDonald's location in question kept their coffee near boiling. It was so hot that it deformed the plastic lid and spilled into her groin, causing horrific third-degree burns. It bothers me every time people bring this up as an example of frivolous litigation. She was entirely right to sue.
@Name-nq7tj8 ай бұрын
and she mainly sued if I remember right for mcdonald to pay her medical fees and to lower the coffee tempature; only after Mcdonalds tried to not pay it so ardently did they have to pay more but even that extra pay only amounts to like a days worth of profit from them selling the coffee. I also remember getting a Mcdonalds coffee years ago and it took like 2 hours for it to cool down enough to be drinkable. I think people just don't realize how hot it was. Also because it was so hot the cup became sort of flimsy so it's easy for the cup to collapse on itself when you pick it up and the lid flies off along with the contents.

You should find a video about the McDonalds coffee. Theres so much more to it. All the lady wanted was for McDonalds to pay her medical expenses, which I think was $50K (she was an elderly woman and suffered 3rd degree burns to her legs and thighs). It was the jury that awarded her the punitive damages in the millions to make their point bc McDonalds routinely ignored warnings about the temp of the coffee (they kept it too hot to keep it longer before they had to throw it out and make a new pot and there were several other people that suffered burns from the coffee). Ultimately the lady never got the full award bc there's a cap on punitive damages in the state she lived in.

The woman who sued McDolands... the issue was that they served her super-heated coffee. The temperature was just under boiling. The coffee spilled on her groin area and caused severe flesh-destroying burns on contact. She had a good reason to sue. I've never actually seen anyone eat spray cheese. I've seen the cans in the store a few times. Thankfully, black friday appears to be dying. The term "black friday" is actually based on an accounting term. Many stored, like the now defunct Toys R Us used to have a loss all year, then make it all back and turn a profit for the year during the Christmas holidays. So the day after thanksgiving, which is traditionally the biggest Christmas shopping day is when the books at these stores would be out of the red and in the black. Hence black friday.

The term black friday has nothing to do with crowds or trampled people. It is said to be the point of the year in which most businesses have reached even for the year and made enough to pay the whole years expenses (payroll etc). Therefore the rest of the year through the holidays etc is all profit. Since being in a minus or debt is known in accounting as being in the red. When you reach that break even point where the rest of the year is all profit, you are now in the black. In accounting (even on bank statements etc) plusses are in black ink and debits are in red. Thus Black Friday. Also I am leaving you a link (I hope you can use it) of a video updated in 2023 of the top 10 largest college football stadiums by capacity. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaKlY4WQfdGSfLs

10:15 That was not how the day got its name. The black in Black Friday refers to an accounting term. When a business is in the black, it is being profitable. When it is in the red, it is losing money. Often stores would be operating in the red, until the Christmas shopping season. The day after Thanksgiving became the official start of the season. It was a stores final chance to earn enough in sales to move into the black. The craziness began with how the stores would draw people in on that day. They would offer incredible deals on high demand items, but limit the quantities of those items. Except back in the older days, the stores would issue rain checks on those sale items. So folks didn't trample each other or need to fight over items.

The lady who sued McDonald's did so because the coffee was so hot that she needed several surgeries for skin grafts. Turns out that particular McDonald's franchise had recived several orders from the health department to lower the temperature of their coffee. And McDonald's failed to do so. And it was a jury that set the amount of the lawsuit. I heard that the jury decided to grant one days French fries sales from that multi store franchise owner. Not understanding that one days sales in just fries was over two million dollars. The fine was later reduced. But the poor lady had to endure horrible pain and multiple surgeries. So I'm glad she sued. Can you imagine if one of those spilt on a toddler?

Man, how the severity of her burns have increased since over nearly 40 years since it occurred. Yes, the McDonald's coffee was extremely hot everywhere. She was treated and released with 1st degree burns only. She did not need surgery or skin grafts. Many people at the time saw it as a frivolous lawsuit. Most people agreed that it was her own stupidity that caused her to burn herself. Here is the story as I recall it. She was running late for work, stopped at the drive-thru for the coffee. Then drove off with it between her legs. She spilled the coffee when she pulled out and had to hit her brakes, thus squeezing the cup and causing the hot coffee to splash on her thighs and crotch. That lawsuit was also the beginning of people playing the lawsuit lottery, and is why everything has to have warning labels now.

I live in Texas, USA, and Texans are very supportive of high school sports, but mostly Friday night football games. There is a movie about this, entitled “Friday Night Lights,” that is a pretty true depiction of how Texans love high school football. Americans show their flag pride on all sorts of things-car rear windows, clothing, face painting at events, tattoos. Just about anywhere or anything that can have the Stars and Stripes displayed, Americans have done that. If you ever get the chance, look at the video about the history of the American Flag at Fort Sumner. As to our white teeth, to make them so white, bleach is used to brighten the teeth, but every whitening removes a minuscule amount of enamel. When you consider that many people get their teeth whitened twice a year, I can see why the English have healthier teeth-more enamel to fight tooth problems.

No McDonalds had been warned many many times before that particular lawsuit that their coffee was unreasonably hot but had refused to bring its coffee in line with the industry norm. You should do a video on the whole fall out concerning that particular law suit and the underhanded disinformation tactics McDonalds used, literally a 30 to 40 million dollars public relations campaign, to turn the table on the victim when they knew they were wrong but wanted to avoid the negative PR at all cost. It was the most egregious case of corporate irresponsibility in recent American history that most Americans only discovered the truth about decades later. The really sad par was the fact that this elderly lady suffered serious injuries from the burns and all she was asking for was for McDonalds to pay a part of the medical bill. I think she was asking McDonalds told her, in no uncertain terms, to kiss their corporate ass. Later when i attended law school and found out the true facts surrounding the case, I was heart-broken. I too was duped by McDonalds. Sadly, many people, even to this day, still believe that McDonalds was the victim in this case. Just look up the case notes...you will be heart-broke for this grandmother as well. That is why the jury awarded such a hefty payout. They were shocked and appalled by McDonalds treatment of the plaintiff even though McDonalds had previously been warned by the courts for scalding its customers with their exceedingly hot coffee, way hotter than industry standard. Like I said, the plaintiff was not asking for any money. I'm glad eventually found out the truth even though it was heart-breaking, but you know what they say, " sometimes the truth takes time!" Below some of the evidence the jury had to consider. McDonald’s operations manual required the franchisee to hold its coffee at 180 to 190 degrees Fahrenheit. Coffee at that temperature, if spilled, causes third-degree burns in three to seven seconds. The chairman of the department of mechanical engineering and biomechanical engineering at the University of Texas testified that this risk of harm is unacceptable, as did a widely recognized expert on burns, the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Burn Care and Rehabilitation, the leading scholarly publication in the specialty. McDonald’s admitted it had known about the risk of serious burns from its scalding hot coffee for more than 10 years. The risk had repeatedly been brought to its attention through numerous other claims and suits. An expert witness for the company testified that the number of burns was insignificant compared to the billions of cups of coffee the company served each year. At least one juror later told the Wall Street Journal she thought the company wasn’t taking the injuries seriously. To the corporate restaurant giant those 700 injury cases caused by hot coffee seemed relatively rare compared to the millions of cups of coffee served. But, the juror noted, “there was a person behind every number and I don’t think the corporation was attaching enough importance to that.” McDonald’s quality assurance manager testified that McDonald’s coffee, at the temperature at which it was poured into Styrofoam cups, was not fit for consumption because it would burn the mouth and throat. McDonald’s admitted at trial that consumers were unaware of the extent of the risk of serious burns from spilled coffee served at McDonald’s then-required temperature. McDonald’s admitted it did not warn customers of the nature and extent of this risk and could offer no explanation as to why it did not.

Each college makes an offer of different things to each athlete based on their athletic talents and academic scores like class grades and test scores. My son was offered a full ride scholarship which means that he was able to attend college for free as long as he played football and made good grades in his classes. And yes the attendance of the games are VERY popular. You can only sell coffee at a certain temperature and McDonald's coffee was super hot at the time. The plaintiff, Stella Liebeck (1912-2004),[2] a 79-year-old woman, suffered third-degree burns in her pelvic region when she accidentally spilled coffee in her lap after purchasing it from a McDonald's restaurant. She was hospitalized for eight days while undergoing skin grafting, followed by two years of medical treatment. Liebeck sought to settle with McDonald's for $20,000 to cover her medical expenses.

Canada had sink garbage disposers way back in the sixties. They are mostly banned in Canada though because of environmental concerns ( they put a strain on wastewater systems ).

For a long time in the US it was illegal to advertise prescription medications. It changed sometime in the 90s or early 00s I think. Anyway, this plethora of adverts for prescription medications is still a somewhat new phenomenon. They inevitably reel off enough side effects to make you think the actual condition is better than the medicine.

Plastic red party cups are sold here in USA but so are other solid colored plastic party cups and also multi colored and art design ones, so?? So many items, worldwide, seems have gone to plastic. Is reason why my family prefers to buy older items including vehicles that are made of steel. Just because there are plastic items available doesn't mean that everyone buys them.😊 Plastic cups come in many different sizes, shapes, brands and thicknesses of the plastic. The red plastic cups shown and referred to in the video being shared most Americans only buy for cheapness to be used once and thrown in trash and actually "Styrofoam" cups for parties and picnics are used more often than the plastic ones mainly because they're less expensive and breakdown more readily.

Black Friday has nothing to do with behavior, but is called that because it's when businesses do enough sales to get "into the black" on their financial ledgers

Spray cheese is great if you go snorkeling or scuba diving. The fish love the stuff!!! I'm sure it's mostly due to how it looks coming out of the can,it resembles a worm.

I heard in Europe you have something called Boxing day. Its like Black Friday but the day after Christmas. I’m not sure why you’d want to buy Christmas gifts after Christmas. Black Friday happens right before Christmas so is the perfect time to buy Christmas gifts.
@marydavis52349 ай бұрын
Boxing Day is when you give your employees the Christmas presents and returning things like clothing that is too small or too big.

That's not how black friday got its name. It's from stores, through large amount of sales are now "in the black" (making large profit over expenses) for the year.

Show Kat the traditions!!! 2 spoilers: my team, the Florida State Seminoles, have Chief Osceola and Renegade, where a person rides a horse onto the field and stick a flaming spear into midfield, and the Colorado Buffalos, who run a live buffalo around the stadium pregame (his name is Ralphie)...

SO...in our house we have lots of dishes, glasses, and silverware to eat and drink with, but guess what? Yep, we prefer using paper plates, plastic utensils, and red solo cups on a day to day basis! In fact, we tend to get disposable aluminum pans for cooking in the oven too. No washing up required!

Buy a dishwasher and use your service. Save money, eat in a more civilised manner and reduce your carbon footprint in one single action. USA urgently need to reduce their emissions per Capita that are the second highest in large nations in the world. 1 American emits like 9 Indians. WE are out of time, Picking the low hanging fruits while even saving money should be an obvious move.

I'm an American and in my 50s. Other than in movies or TV, as a joke, I have never seen "spray cheese". Not even in a market. I'm sure it exists, but I have never seen it eaten by anyone. Flags... my jingo sister-in-law tried to force her Canadian neighbors to put up American flags for Independence Day. First, that would make no sense, Second, mind your own business. Flags is definitely a thing, but 150 million a year. I didn't know it was that bad.

Tell Kat that college sports is big because most of the universities are in small towns that doesn't have any major league teams. UConn (University of Connecticut) is known as Connecticut's major league team, because their women's basketball team won more NCAA championships than any other teams. UConn men's basketball is another championship teams, too. Heres a fun fact, when a University of Nebraska football game is played at home, the stadium (90,000 capacity) is the third largest city in the state... Tailgating at college football games is fun and sometimes even visitors are welcomed. The best rivalry in football is Yale Harvard's THE GAME! Not a big time rivalry like Auburn Alabama, Florida Georgia (The biggest cocktail Party), California - Stanford or Ohio State - Michigan...

Solo cups are mainly used for keg parties. And, about the deals on black Friday they "can" be ridiculously low. I would never stand in any line (queue) that long for any reason. O.K. may to get a free concert ticket to one of my favorite bands that might cost $500+, not much else. Otherwise, I'd be more inclined to pay a proxy to take my place or as I once was, have a connection inside who grabs something for you. Easy way I got the new PS4 selling for $499.00 for $199.00. My lucky day! My grandson got lucky that Christmas. lol.

People are still not correct about Black Friday. Stores do not operate in the Red all year long and then turn their stores into profit because of black friday sales. They eould be bankrupt before November even started. Black Friday was coined by the Philadelphia Police Department. Major department stores werent in the suburbs and malls werent a thing. Suburban families would take the regional trains to Center City Philadelphia to look at the Christmas displays, enjoy some shopping, and have lunch. These stores were concentrated on Market Street just to the east of City Hall. Two train systems had stations close by: Pennsylvania Railroad Suburban Station underground City Hall and the Reading Railroad above 10th and Market. Thousands of people lined the sidwalks, crossed the streets, and created traffic gridlock and safety problems. The Police were overwhelmed with the crowds. They nicknamed the day Black Friday. Spray cheese is used to give pills to your pets. Adults dont use it. Garbage disposal waste is flushed into the sewers and treated with human wastes, once treated, the water is purified and sent to fields for irrigation. The solid waste is burned for fuel or spread in fields where crops are grown for non-human consumption.

All college football games here in the US are fun, and interesting. I'm not being biased, but the college football games here in Wisconsin are like no other. And, that video must be at least a few years old, because college players are now allowed to be compensated.
