@@kiwis0uth I've read the Moriori Claims Settlement Act 2021 along with the Historically Agreed Account of their plight within that act. Given the nature of their lifestyle there wouldn't be any evidence of their existence on mainland New Zealand. Not like they were building pyramids or anything. I'm reluctant to believe the word of conquering cannibalistic force who doesn't benefit in any way from admitting there were people before them. History is written by the victors and all that. Especially when not telling the truth would benefit them more. I find it hard to believe they went from Polynesia and missed New Zealand entirely. That history of Chatham Islands only exists because the Crown were here when the Moriori were enslaved and saw it for themselves. Would that history exist If they hadn't? Doubt it. But, that's just my opinion.

If you deny the Maori of being the indigenous people of NZ, you are saying its ok for us to overlook the tangata of the whenua. In Wales and Scotland, all place names are in their celtic and in their mother tongue.
