Quality is not guaranteed! Quality comes for standards and regulations that are enforced to ensure the quality standards are met. And even then this can't necessarily be translated to big navy. Tanker or cruise ships have very little in common with naval ships. The metals are different, the equipment is different and imagine if you are making for example a nuclear carrier. It would take years and years before that shipyard would actually capable of making such ship with the quality standards needed to actually make it. Ofc there are advantages. You have the people that need less training for the job and you have most of the infrastructure needed to make the ship when it comes to building the actual ship.

Shipyards in China and Korea are completely different. China mainly builds container ships, but Korea builds LNG ships and drill ships. 80% of the world's LNG ships are manufactured in Korea. On the other hand, 80% of the world's container ships are made in China. LNG ships mainly made in Korea are 300 meters long, but container ships mainly made in China are 1 km long. If the length is 3.3 times, the volume is 27 times. Although Korean LNG ships are 27 times smaller than Chinese container ships, the price of Korean LNG ships is much higher. The difference is technology. Because China does not have the technology, even if it builds a ship that is 27 times larger than Korea's, it must sell it cheaper than Korea.

SK destroyer are more heavily armed destroyer with a total number of 128 VLS with a 4 quadruple ASM, compared to US arleigh burke class destroyer 96 VLS & 2 quadruple ASM, and SK destroyer much larger and heavier with a length of 170m and 11,000 tons displacements, compare to US only 154m in length and 9-10 thousand tons displacements. SK destroyers are classified as battle cruisers in NATO standards.

Historically, Koreans were good with shipbuilding, they've built naval fleet for Kublai Khan during 13th century and known for naval power in Asia but sadly they're not given much credits when they've developed earlier versions of smaller onboard ship cannons and ballistic launchers since early as 14th century.

SK biulds ships and subs in a very precisely scheduled manner. Every batch/ship has newer and stronger features than the previous one. Almost one new destroyer every year or ever two years. Same with corvettes and subs. Radar, sonar, torpedoes and missiles. This continuous evolution is the most formidable feature.

Most of the major Chinese coastal or near-coastal cities are within 300 to 1,000 km from some point of Korean peninsula. These days, . SONARs can identify the sound of a ship or sub from several thousands of kilometers away. Good electromagnetic listening (ESM) can identify the direction(angle) of the emitter very, very quickly. And can memorize the electromagnetic signature of an every sea, land, or airborne emitter. A most advanced anti-ship missile can home-in using this EM signature, without turning on its small radar. SK is building ships with these capabilities. All Chinese ships and subs are being tracked in real time. China should have made North Korea much less provocative. But China has been doing the opposite·.

The SK shipbuilding is too excellent that they became the target of NK hackers for many times. While much of the information is expected to be sold to China, some is kept as a basis to improve NK's aging, low-quality and low-output shipbuilding industry. In NK, due to the separation of its East and West coasts, the relative negligence of trade and shipping due to the North Korean defense, and the systematic closure of the shipbuilding industry, the level of the shipbuilding industry is not well-received. It is in very poor condition. In terms of shelf-building technology, facilities and capacity, and amount of construction, it is estimated that the overall level of shipbuilding industry technology in North Korea remains at the level of South Korea's late 1960s.

I'm Korean The point of large landing ships is having a large marine force forces north korea to use more of it's army in defending the coastline, reducing the numbers of NK soldiers on the frontline. Just like how India plans on using her navy in a land war against Pakistan. Of course the large LHD is maded Dokdo, which are contested Islets with Japan. However the Islets are too small to land on with these large LHDs, and SK lacks the capability to do landings on any other large island of other great powers. Also, SK still have large islands she needs to service, as well as North Korean islands.

If South Korea was located somewhere else their naval power might be relevant, but as it is 3 out of 4 of their neighbours are nuclear armed, 2 out of those 3 are nuclear armed superpowers with hypersonic ASMs that can wipe out SK's entire surface navy within 30 minutes with plenty to spare for their intended USN targets, and the last of those 3 has a mutual defence treaty with one superpower and weapons supply deal with another. The 2 Koreas have been separated for too long already. If Kim Jung Un decides to start reunification process, will he succeed this time? South Korea has US backing but North Korea will have the support from both China and Russia. Remember that all of them are nuclear states. Perhaps the endgame and end results will be very similar to Vietnam.
