I think a lot of people misunderstood the point of this episode without even watching it. They weren't trying to say that trans athletes can't compete, but they were trying to create a dialogue regarding what point we draw the line without being labeled a transphobe. That's why they had the Heather Swanson character be the most extreme example ever.

@@F40PH-2CAT that wasn't the point, it doesn't ever say "only 2 genders" or anything of the sort, Heather herself is just a man who's abusing the trans label to win, especially over women he feels slighted him, Strong woman being the main example. Also how the values you put out and the fear of being labeled in a negative way could cause the inability to speak out about things truly wrong or the ability to hold a conversation. I also want to point out in the earlier seasons when Mr Garrison became trans he was respected as female, they even had a whole episode about how transitioning could lead to your partner being unable to stay because of their own orientation. As a transperson, I didn't feel offended at all. In fact, it is an issue that trans athletes competing with women spread controversy because they outclass them. I don't think it's transphobic to discuss a topic and trying to find a solution that will benefit both parties. South Park never said we should ban trans athletes, but that they have an advantage that's unfair towards women and our current system needs to change. Not transpeople are the ones at fault here, it's the system that's clearly either outdated or just pandering the woke snowflakes. Or maybe we just need more studies.

@@KitsyX Yeah it's usually questioning, socially transitioning, medically transitioning, legally transitioning and then getting surgeries. Transitioning is a process that takes time a at least more than 2 years and that's way more than 2 weeks. We don't know if she found a legal loophole. It's kind of sad because this is what most uneducated "facts over feelings" people think about trans people. It is odd how people who aren't trans can create laws against trans people but when someone shoots up a school oh it's mental illness and they need help. Like come on who's putting your kids in danger trans people who are just living and if your child sees someone who isn't conforming to society and gender standards of how to look so the kids are interested and ask questions literally ever kid asks questions and are interested in everything they haven't seen before. Or are people shooting up schools putting your kids in danger and then it's just like they have mental illness so let's cure that. And since people believe gender dysphoria is a mental illness why not cure that and let them transition? Just a weird world (USA) we live in where people are more scared about their kids being trans rather than their kids being shot in school.

I do really think there should be some sort of proof that someone who is transitioning has different levels of hormones. Because saying a trans woman saying they are on estrogen is so vague like how do we know if they are on micro doses or not. Someone saying that they are on estrogen for 6 months doesn't mean they are on the proper amount and if it's having a strong effect and some effects take longer than others. I don't think trans women should be banned from women's sports but we should at least understand the transition period of transitioning and give the person time to transition medically and not compete at the moment in the women's category. Because a trans woman on estrogen for 5 years is physically more different than a trans woman on estrogen for 5 months.

I’ll open by saying I’m perfectly fine with the LGBT community and think anyone should have the same rights as anyone else when they don’t infringe on someone else Ie marriage, sex changes etc but I do somewhat agree with South Park here. We’ve gotten to a point where even acknowledging biological differences in sex and the physical advantages those can incur is labeled as transphobic. The reality is when you look at things like fast running time, lifting etc biological men consistently outperform biological women and yes everyone is born different and there are genetic advantages even among the same sex of course but the main reason sex based division was created was to allow for fair competition where both sexes best and most fit would have a fair chance at representation. If we’re going to consistently (and granted accurately) promote the difference between biological sex and gender then we need to acknowledge that sports where divided by sex not gender. There’s a good reason why we’re seeing male to female trans athletes keep topping female records when they compete against biological women but not the other way around. Alas there seems to be a chunk of the people who rather than have an honest discussion here wish to label it transphobic and another portion who want to use this fact to overall discriminate and use it as the argument to not acknowledge the difference between sex and gender in any aspect. The closest comparison I can give for why I believe in division based on sex is the same reasoning we use weight classes for things like boxing and mma.

Sounds to me segregation by gender is a dumb idea and we should finally advance to scientific measures to tier people within fair competitions. Red blood cells, muscle mass, size and age,for example. Also, the episode literally ends on the realization that PCs actually are aware of the nuance and people getting angry are mostly people not thinking any of it through.

@@clydefrosch Im confused on your statement, are you saying we should find a way to make competition fair for everyone? I don’t think society is willing to put in that effort, I mean I personally don’t care about sports that much to equalize it to the point of blood cells 🤷‍♀️
@DarkBunnyLord
@DarkBunnyLord Жыл бұрын
@@clydefrosch It’s never been segregation by gender but by sex, Ie you can be a man/woman gender wise but your sex is biologically determined. It’s a balance between ease of assessment and division of viewership. Man/woman is easy, quick and gives you two categories. Weight class takes it a bit further subdividing categories more and taking a weigh in but this is of course based on non-team sports where assessment is more done on recruiters assessing a players skills. The issue becomes representation, you don’t want to exclude representation of one class of people because they can compete as well with higher classes etc ergo we get a man/woman split as a mostly universal default.

As a trans woman this episode isnt really offensive its a nuanced piece of social commentary that shows that yes, there are shitty people on every side that will abuse the trans movement for their own agenda. Ofc people who havent gone through hrt will have an advantage thats simple biology some people completely miss the point because hrt does truly effect muscle density and after a certain amount of time, your muscle density will go into a normal range and only your bone structure with remain unchanged unless youre under like 20. People trying to be overly protective/defensive of trans people usually have good intentions and shitty execution and it doesnt help that the minority of trans people try to speak for the majority of us. We’re regular people with flaws and we can all act like shitty people sometimes I hope more people realize that the loud people who make you mad arent the people who live day to day working, living, and yes struggling to live as a trans person in society. South park has only really one episode kinda addressing trans issues and thats the episode where Randy is Lorde and gets kicked out of the bathroom for expressing himself, I find Garrison distasteful to trans issues to say the least. Even though I absolutely love south park i hope they can actually make some better commentary on it.

This episode was pretty fair, although the media at the time was mixed. Trans people can compete fairly in sports, but only if they've been doing HRT for a while (like a few years or so), otherwise chemically and physically they're fully expressing as their dead gender.

I couldn't agree with yall sentiment more I honestly can't think of anything that's created more anti woke people then the current ideology going on with that community I'm sure it's different in other places but in America it doesn't matter how liberal you are the second someone is telling you how to live its hard to have any empathy

Guys, don't get political while watching South Park. You're literally watching a show that does all the things some people whine would get anyone canceled and silenced these days. Dave Chappelle still getting gigs, specials and making money without end. The ep literally ends on the note that PC people are aware of the nuance of these topics.

Maybe it's also how men and women are treated in society. Men have to do heavy lifting and have different and more intense activities in gym classes at a young age and gender roles lead to girls at a young age to do less active activities so through evolution of human physical bodies the female form hasn't adapted to being more physically strong. Hence the push up vs. girl push up.

South Park simply just called out the BS that goes on today, they made a lot of jokes and made fun of stuff in the past that people do today now as normal, the stupid ideologies that people follow and do today used to be made fun of, it's crazy
