**** FOR EVERYONE SAYING THE VIDEO IS TOO FAST***** YOU CAN CHANGE THE SPEED OF THE VIDEO UNDER SETTINGS. Remember, this is a new language you are trying to learn so you have to be patient. It is okay to watch the video multiple times until you think you understand it. If you are truly interested in learning sign language, the best way to do that is by getting involved with the Deaf community (but these videos are an awesome way to start!)

My goal this year is to learn sign language. I started with this video today and can already sign the whole alphabet and a few words / phrases and I'm loving every second of it. This afternoon I also taught my husband the alphabet and we had much fun trying to spell out words. I'm watching the video over and over :) Thanks for making it available

@@moniqueduplessis24 I started out very good but then slowed down because I had no one to practise with, so unfortunately I stopped. Best wishes,, hope it works out for you

Hi Yivina, I would like to say thank you for making this, My daughter was recently diagnosed with a severe tissue degenerative disorder, and as a result has lost all her hearing by the age of 6, she is now attending St Vincent's and is slowly making progress, but also finds it hard to concentrate, both her and I absolutely adore watching your videos and we learn quite a lot from them, I am still struggling with forming full sentences in the correct context, however, I know I will get there.

I really want to learn sign language but I cannot watch the signing and read the written words at the same time. Could you please consider having a voice-over for your videos for those of us who are able to hear that really want to learn, but struggle to read. People with disorders such as dyslexia, etc. will never be able to learn from these videos and I truly think it is an important language to learn. I love what you are trying to do and really just want it to be easier for people like me, who really want to learn but have to struggle the whole way through because you sign too fast and I can't watch you and read subtitles at the same time. Thank you for trying to teach on KZbin. Your efforts are appreciated. But those of us who can't read easily struggle without a verbal explanation. I hope you will consider putting a voice-over in your videos to make them more inclusive. Thank you. ☺️

i met a beautiful lady n i wana marry her, she have a lovely young boy age 11. we cant communicate so well coz i do not know the sign language. i love this boy i wish i can learn this language faster u know... I just wish you guys can talk and explain to some us how signs are done, its kind of difficult to watch your hands and read subtitles at the same time. or you can talk and still put subtitles... i'm pointing this out because it will make learning more fun. my intention is not to harm. thanks for a good work :)

Wow, that story was so entertaining to see. I'm in first year Stellenbosch University and I'm so sad because Sign Language is only offered for one year and I'm wondering how everyone learned sign language and became interpreters if, in regards to Stellies, the subject has only been available since 2018. I'm deliberating whether to become a sign language interpreter or a Chinese interpreter, or maybe even both and I can help deaf people travel to china, lol.

This is awesome! just wondering if the facial expressions matter or if it's okay to just mouth what you're signing.
@tiefseblief6 жыл бұрын
Certain signs have a facial expression attached to them ('SORRY" for example just doesn't look as 'sorry' if you don't show it!) but generally one only mouths what one signs for the purposes of bridging the gap between English and SASL, or if there are two possible English meanings for 1 sign and you want to be precise. In some dialects of SASL, the sign for "MAN" and "FATHER" is the same sign, so to differentiate you might see a signer mouth "MAN" or "FATHER" just to show. Although, most of the time, it's obvious from context. Some Deaf people can lip read as well as sign, so they may ask an interpreter to sign and mouth what's being said, for instance. It's a personal preference however. :)

Why is SASL so different to ASL ?
@southafricansignlanguage7 жыл бұрын
No one form of sign language is universal. Different sign languages are used in different countries or regions. For example, British Sign Language (BSL) is a different language from ASL, and Americans who know ASL may not understand BSL. Hence, SASL is different to ASL.
@lalina13046 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't it be nice if there was one? You would meet someone from China and communicate fine.

But this is not completely right...? Every sentence is in a completely different order than to the sign... for example, she says with the what is your name... she signs name you what? I wouldn't say it is wrong but it would completely confuse beginners.
@tiefseblief6 жыл бұрын
Hi Enrico, South African Sign Language has a different grammar (especially syntax) to English. Sign Language signed with English word order is called SEE (Signed Exact English) and while it is used by some Deaf people in South Africa, these videos are for a more general SASL and thus they use SASL grammar. If you were to sign in English word order "WHAT YOUR NAME" a Deaf person would still kind of understand you, but it would be the same as if someone actually spoke the words "Name your what?" Languages like Afrikaans, German, Arabic, etc etc have different word orders to English and, just like with those languages, it's something you get used to the more you grow accustomed to thinking in the language instead of comparing it to your source language :) I hope this helps!
