Oh ,wow sis you have no idea how much your comment, just blessed My spirit. First thing we are in the same generation and you remember the cake, and the happy time of the year that was around it. Just having some one who can relate to find memories of back in the days speaks volumes nowadays on all levels, with the times we are living in now. I don't want to talk to long. Lol. But please remember where you seen this southern classic Lane cake first here on YT 😘 I know you get what I am saying. Thanks again for watching and God bless 💕🙏🏿

Oh my goodness Yes I've made this cake myself but my grandmother made it every November and another one for Christmas . After the cake was finished it wasn't cut ! grandma would wrap the cake in Seran wrap , then wrap it again in aluminum foil and put it in a big cake tin . It was doused with a bit of four roses every few days ,sealed back up and put way back in the closet (or she called it the press) to stay cool. It took two weeks to cure and we could hardly wait till Thanksgiving...

I have never seen or heard of this cake but Did enjoy seeing how it is made.I know it is delicious. it is beautiful.I like hearing your stories about the past.Bring back memories. We did not have a lot of toys as kids but we made some of ours. I remember taking a needle and thread and sticking through china berries and making necklaces and bracelets. We got old rims off bicycles ,nailed to plyboards and posts and made basketball goals. We had lots of fun. It made me more appreciative of things. I look for each generation to be better or at least just as good. I think it is what we have on the inside is what counts the most. We need to Love one another.

I love hearing about the days gone by, too. When you guys mentioned 'cap pistols', my mind was thrown right back to the 1950s and my two older brothers' pistols. I even bribed them to let me shoot it a few times by buying those red spools of "caps" or whatever that fit into the pistol and make that big firing pop noise as the red paper came up and out of the shiny silver gun. I was happy with my little doll and while we didn't get a lot at Christmas, we couldn't have been happier with the couple of little gifts and oranges and walnuts and a little store-bought candy in our stockings. Big fireplace was lit,and french toast breakfast, with the whole family together and then the 3 hour ride to Grandmas' house for the big dinner and all the relatives. A few years later, the boys got BB rifles and I got a Brownie camera...lol. I wished we could've slowed down and not "progressed" so fast. Simple life is so much more appreciated.

I watched the video for a second time tonight and can’t wait to go to the store to buy the ingredients. Can’t wait til Christmas! Hope mine turns out as good as yours . I consider myself to be a pretty good cook, but I’m NOT a baker. Every time I bake a cake it either falls or splits in the middle! You're right about seeing something done even though reading how its done is better. And I'm not sure what relation Tuck is to you, Miss Mae Mae, but he's doing a fine job. Videoing is not easy especially when there's as much moving around in a small space as necessary with your show. Tuck is doing an excellent job at handling it though! Thank you both for the hard work. I'm off to binge watch more of Mae Mae's Happy Table. This is just like my momma and grandmama did and makes me miss those days so much. The kitchen was the best place to be in the house...all the aromas, and smiles and talking and tasting, our moms, aunts and highly respected grandmas and beloved cousins. (big sigh for the old days)

The Lane Cake is something new to me but it looks delicious. On film the frosting looks like a German Chocolate Cake topping. Ms. Mae Mae is there any type of substitution that you know of for the "ALCOHOL" in this cake? If so I'd like to know the difference. At any rate thank you for all your recipes and "Back In The Day" stories because they do make us feel good and have people thinking back on their own memories from when we were younger. Although times were much more simpler than it allowed us to spend alot of quality time with our loved ones in which most of them have gone to glory. But once again thank you for those "FEEL GOOD" moments and til the next time you and Mr. Tuck take care and continue to love one another. PEACE!!!!!! Out

When I was expecting my first son, I craved some of this cake so my Granny made me one I drove an hour and a half just to get it from her! I ate one piece and I was satisfied. Now she was a tee-totaler so there was no alcohol in her cake. Instead she used a whole navel orange, peel and all! She hand-grated it. It give's it a little twang and it is delish! My great gramma was from Mobile AL. Her name was Jewel Huey Lane but the grand kids called her MooMoo!! My mom was the first grandbaby and she tried to call Jewel "momma lane" but she said Moo Moo instead and it stuck! She moved to Florida after she was married. She worked at a citrus plant, she sectionized oranges and grapefruits. They canned them and shipped all over. She was also a seamstress. She could look at a top or pants at the store, then go home and make them exactly, with no pattern! She had sassy sense of humor and was always smiling. She died in 2006, she was 96. I miss her everyday 💖 She made a poundcake with divinity icing that was amazing. My favorite of every thing she made!!

I'm so glad I found your channel today. You have great stories I haven't heard since my grandmother passed away 15 years ago. She was from Georgia. We still have family all over the south. I cook southern food everyday. 😋

That's right! The old landmark Lane Cake! We ate it only at Holidays and the elderly women who made it would 'apply' various libations or Pappas recipe made in certain cellars...???...LOL!

😂😂😂 sis you have me cracking up! You are exactly right! My step grandmother would add more liquor to it after a couple of day to “keep it moist” I think it was more so to keep them happy! 😂

My grandma (born 1897) made this cake too - so delicious! She grew her own grapevine, and with the grapes she made juice, and grape juice was what she put in her lane cake (or whatever juice she had, like cherry or orange juice). It was jokingly called "unleaded" 'cause it didn't have alcohol in it! She also made the grape juice for the church communion and canned it in gallon jars.

Looks DE-Licious - I've never heard of the cake -but it reminds me of the German chocolate that I learned to make as a youngster. Thanks for sharing. I sent this to a friend who likes to bake. He'll probably make it.

Goodness gracious, that cake is over the top!! Mae Mae, I have never heard of a Lane cake, but it sure looks delicious. I'm not crazy about those sweet creamy cake frostings either (like store bought cakes), but I'd love the icing on your Lane cake!😘 Yes, you and I are close in age (I'm 68) and growing up in the 50s and 60s was a world of difference compared to how it is now. Times were much simplier then. And I think people were happier then too for the most part. Thank you so much for the time you spent making this delicious cake for us!! I love "visiting" with you and Mr. Tuck!
