What he actually says is backwards , you always break-in your engine using a ratio that is RICH not LEAN . Manufacturers used to have it written in their instructions to run 16:1 for at least 1 tank , maybe even 2 tanks , but from my experience (600+builds) it really is too rich . I run around a 20-25:1 mix for break in and actually sometimes leave it at 25:1 if its just a fun get around bike . Running one of these engines at 40:1 will have you have you buying a new engine real quick . You wont ever fowl a spark plug and you'll never likely cease it from running lean or hot in the summer months...What he says in the video at 5:35+ and after is backwards rich is 16:1 and you want extra rich when new...I'm sure it was just an oversite .

Don't get too caught up in oils for these engines. As an experiment, I've been running used motor oil in my 80cc kit for about 5 years since new. I estiamte I've done about 4,000 miles of riding and around the 3,000 mile mark the wrist pin bearing failed. I only relaized an issue as the spark plug gap was getting closed. I would reopen the gap and it would run fine for a while then get smashed closed again. I replaced the wrist pin, wrist pin bearing and piston w/ rings. I didn't have a hone small enough for the cylinder so I just scuffed it up with some sandpaper by hand. It's been great ever since. I do think it might have had a bit more power when new but it still idles like a champ and pulls my 200 pound butt around with no issues. I comfortably run around 24MPH. I've hit 30mph+ but the bike becomes a bit shaky and feels unstable.
@marthamryglod2912 жыл бұрын
More oil in the premix displaces fuel and leans out the air/fuel mix. There's less gas to combine with air. Less oil in the mix richens the mixture as there is more fuel to mix with the air. More oil is a lower premix ratio, less oil is a higher premix ratio. This is different than saying lean or rich. Although we all say lean and rich when talking about oil ratio, it is technically incorrect and leads to confusion.

I'm not sure if I should return my used 1990 motorized Hyper black bicycle, which I just finished paying for, today, at a local, nearby pawn shop. *The bicycle part of it works well, but the motorized part of the bicycle doesn't work at all.* I noticed that a couple of the engine wires were disconnected: the two-wired one that comes from the little yellow start button, which has a little picture of a lightning bolt on it. Another wire, a white one, was disconnected, too. According to the salesperson who sold me the bicycle, it had worked very well, especially when the store manager there tested it out before. Today, I tried to turn it on, by peddling it and simultaneously pressing the yellow button located on the right handle bar...and turning the handle grasp on the right handle bar, at the same time. I visited a local park and a large empty store parking lot, both places, for several hours, unsuccessfully, trying to crank up the little single-piston engine. I also connected the loose wires in many different ways...to try to get the bicycle to hopefully respond..but unsuccessfully, too. At the end, the bicycle started leaking lots of gasoline from the tubing and from the little gas filter. I went to a car-parts store nearby to get a new filter for it. They sold me a slightly larger filter, which I replaced immediately, then and there. Afterwards, I noticed that there was no gasoline passing through the tubing at all. The new gas filter is probably not made for this particular type of motorized bicycle. Finally, I decided to just petal my way home, after all the trouble.... and to wait until tomorrow to maybe receive a complete refund for the bicycle, if I ultimately decide to return it. Maybe, eventually, I can take it to a mechanic, instead. Let's see what happens. I'll just play it by ear. I'm very tired right now, though. It took me two payments (about one month) to purchase my 1990 motorized Hyper bicycle, for a total of 380 dollars. I have lots of other bicycles already (without motors, of course). I was really looking forward to acquiring my motorized 1990 Hyper bicycle today...to my disappointment. I've had arthritic pain in both my knees and in my lower back for many years already. A motorized bicycle or a scooter could surely help me mitigate my chronic pain. SMH 🙄

Hey Dylan. That's for watching. The best gas--in my opinion--is non-ethanol which is made specifically for small engines. The shelf life is twice as long and won't gunk up your carb over time. Which motor would u prefer to daily ride around on?
@SouthernCustomCC4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Personally, I think both would be good daily riders, but if I had to pick one it would be the yd100 because of the initial rear and torque. I am not a top speed kind of rider. I enjoy the ride and cruise. The yd pulls me off the line in traffic and it pulls me up a hill no problem. The 80 does the above as well, but the yd does it a little better. Now, with hay said...the 80 does ride smoother in all RPM ranges while an unmodified yd is jumpy at high rpm. So if you are a speed seeker, you'll want the upgrades to smooth out the yd ride. Either way, you can really go wrong...both do what they are designed to do well. Happy building and happy riding!

I currently have a run well pk80 i daily in the summer with some little upgrades and it’s nice, I keep looking at the YD100s to build a Schwinn chopper bike with.
@SouthernCustomCC4 жыл бұрын
It’ll be a tight fit, but you could get a yd in a occ frame. Just make sure you get an offset intake, some gas rated intake tubing, a different exhaust, and and extra chain and idler pulley mechanism. That will have so much torque you'd probably pop wheelies!!! Be safe and have fun!

Hey I actually use the same bike to build motorized bikes, Just saying that bike you can direct chain the engine to the back wheel, its SOOOO much more durable those chain tension wheels suck and always end up getting loose for me and busting up my spokes.

Yeah, I learned the hard way after I busted a spoke. After I ditched the chain tensioner, everything works perfectly now. I had to match the chain lengths and that took a little trial and error though.

@@Petro250 not really I've got a 212 predator and one of them they're pretty close in size comparatively obviously one's got a bigger displacement and overall larger volume But it is no less complicated. Use all the same parts just a different motor plate. And then we got just basic reliability in general overall usability day after day. And it would be more akin to will say a mustang with 4 cylinder versus a mustang with a V8 The little two cycle motors don't hold up very well. Mostly because of build quality on the lower end versions also it's a two-stroke so they tend to need to be rebuilt more often on top of that you generally have tuning issues for the common everyday person now it is a little harder to pedal the bike with us a little bit larger motor on it but it's not that much harder than the one with the bicycle motor kit on it

@KLRFJR2 жыл бұрын
Your definition of lean, as applied to gas/oil mixtures is incorrect. 16 parts gasoline to one part oil is a lot of oil. Conversely, 50 parts gasoline to one part oil is what I would call a much leaner mixture, by comparison. Personally, all of my 2-stroke small engines get 40:1, kept fresh, and run regularly. Thanks for the video though!
