Hey everyone I am gonna say this as nice as possible…. I have been reading and removing comments about the quality of food and where it was bought. There are people who struggle everyday in the ability to feed their families, and for some to come on here and bash and shame this video is sad. How about we be kind humans and encourage others to feed their families by whatever means they can. It makes you sound hoity toity, pretentious and condescending. There’s no shame in the game if a belly is full and a family is happy. Let others be. Stop shaming.

I don’t know why anyone would complain about the quality of the food. That brand of mashed potatoes is sold everywhere and I use them all the time. The green beans as well and they are also delicious. The stuffing is the same as you would get as a known brand, probably made at the same facility. I would eat this dinner and be thankful to have it. Some people have never had to struggle and that’s the problem. I was a single mom of three kids and sometimes had to go to the church food pantry. You learn to make something out of nothing sometimes and are thankful to get it. This meal looks delicious and thank you for sharing your ideas.

You are absolutely right. I worked in a factory many years ago. They made the same items for different companies then put their company logos on them. That is often how it works.
@Jennie-kb4ugКүн бұрын
Pretty much every thing she used was a name brand, or a generic that is just as high quality as any typical store brand. Personally I would have made a tweak or two, and found a way to include a can of cranberry sauce, but she did a really great job. And the best part of all, was that not only was this meal really cheap, it was also VERY accessible for someone who has limited access to kitchen gear/fridge space, as well as being very accessible to someone who has no kitchen skills or is disabled. Personally, I am one hell of a good cook, but I am also currently disabled and on chemo. This entire meal of recipes is at a level that could be prepared by someone with very low stamina, or even easily delgated to a helper/child of ~8+yo while supervising and directing from a seat at the table if absolutely needed (or they just wanted to help). This is also a good menu for someone who has to work over the holiday, or can't make it home to be with family and doesn't want a lot of leftovers to deal with. The quantities shown would easily make 4-6 hearty-sized meals to take to work.

My family’s Thanksgivings are big…usually 40-45 people and I make the mashed potatoes. Always a chore because I have to prepare 20 pounds, ugh. About 10 years ago I got smart. I made 10 pounds of mashed potatoes and then combined those with a box of instant mashed potatoes. It saved me so much time and they tasted so good and everyone loved them. I’ll never go back. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

@@karenhofer8072 Cooking, draining and mashing enough potatoes for almost 50 people is a lot of work, believe me. So buying 10 lbs and then supplementing them with dried potato flakes was a GOD SEND. Add milk, butter, cream cheese and s&p, and everyone loves them.

Love the spirit of your home!You've got a good husband and kids and they've got a creative momma who can stretch a dollar and cook with love. I grew up poor and my mom was a master of 'poor man's meals that tasted absolutely fabulous. She was able to stretch 'peasant food' and fed half the neighborhood. There are some great ideas here, especially how you made the beans! But since you love good tips and saving $, I wanted to share with you that usually during Thanksgiving time, you can get a whole turkey (which can feed your family for a week) at any of your local grocery stores for as low as .39/lb. (So a 10 lb turkey is less than $4!). And you can get 5lbs of potatoes for $1.99! So you could nix the cans of turkey, gravy and potatoes and get everything else at the $ store and still come out ahead! Just a tip! But truly, you're a lovely mom with some great ideas that I'll be borrowing as well. Thanks for sharing! And Happy Thanksgiving!🎉

What a nice dinner! As a couple that had to retire very early due to my husband nearly dying from a “widow-maker” heart attack, our budget was greatly reduced. I start saving for our grandchildren’s gifts for the holidays in September. This Thanksgiving, my husband is recovering from a bad fall, long stay in hospital and major surgery on his shattered knee, so it’s been super tight. We are taking dinner to an elderly couple’s house since they are pretty much housebound so this meal will be perfect. Here in Canada 🇨🇦 I shop at a DollarRama. A transplanted Bluegrass girl to boot and I love introducing our neighbours to Southern cooking! Thank you!

Ma'am, I'm an elderly woman of 72, living on SS and a small pensiion, so I know about having to be frugal. I'm saying this next bit only as what our family did around 25 years ago; my parents handled money intelligently, though they were never rich. In 1999, Mom finally said "We (she and Dad) aren't going to buy Christmas presents anymore. All the grandchildren are plenty old enough to understand this, and we're not going to keep spending money that WE need on useless things nobody really wants. However, all that said, we want all of you to come here and have Christmas Eve dinner and play games." All of us women happily cooked and baked and took a huge "potluck" out to Mom and Dad's little farm, and the whole family always had a great time. There were three younger grands at the time (my own son was an adult by then), but the youngest was already 17, so no little ones. It was the best thing Mom could have done, making that announcement, and my brother and his wife, my sister and her husband, and I were all very glad to hear it. None of us was rich, and all of us really needed our money for our own expenses. That's all, just a telling of what our family did 25 years ago, and that it was a terrific thing for all of us.
