I just serviced my grandpa's Mitchel 300A for the first time ever. Went from a total 0 to hero! Now I'm hooked and serviced our other 5 rods! Totally worth it. You get the knowledge and experience, and save money from getting a new reel.

Awesome video. Seems like it still doesn't want to slam shut even after the cleaning. I'm having the same problem with my Penn reel. I loosened the bail screws a quarter turn and that seemed to help.
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing2 жыл бұрын
Slams closed just fine... eventually corrosion does build up where the screws hold the bail to the reel... what I did was I took a 7/32" drill bit and honed it out a little bit.... worked like new after that.

Thanks a million for watching and always being here to drop a line. I truly could do this without your help. Penn Spinfisher V's commonly have this problem, so if you've got one and this happens... This is the easy fix.. If you don't have one... then the answer to a sticky bail is either corrosion, or metal on metal wear. Thanks again for everything you do and making this happen. Tight lines & take care ;)

Hi Heath, Great video on reel maintenance. Saltwater corrosion is a big problem in spinning reels. I rinse my reels in the shower with warm water. When dry, I lube all the moving parts with WD-40. Surf fishing has the additional problem of getting sand into the reel. The sand just grinds into everything. Maybe you can make a video on line roller bearing maintenance. It seems to be the part that needs oil but rarely get it. Say "Hi" to Avi and Bella. I hope Bijoux is doing well. Take care and I'll talk to you on Sunday, Mickey
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mickey. Thanks for watching. Bijoux is doing good. Thanks for being concerned. She has her surgery tomorrow at 12:30 and will stay overnight for observation. With all fishing reels, it's either corrosion or metal on metal wear... Hopefully, the gear hasn't been neglected for too long and the problem is caught before it's damaged beyond repair. My spinners start acting up about once a year, but, I really put them through some torture, not only with the fish that outclass them, but with the ocean too... Usually after a day on the water, I give the reel a nice rinse and drench the rod and handle... But I'm lazy and hold off on the lube until they need to be serviced. Thanks again for always taking out time to visit and think of my family.. Hope all is well with you and yours. Talk to you Sunday. Take care :)

Hi Heath, It's 11:30 central time or 12:30 eastern and I'm saying a prayer for Bijoux. I'm sure everything will be fine. Usually the three days after surgery can be the hardest time and then it gets better. "Hi" to everyone, Mickey

Good tech video. FYI the noises in the background is because sound travel much faster through solids so place a soft cloth under the microphone or tripod whatever is sitting on the table. Thanks again Ricky 💃🕺🏼🎶🐈⬛🎸💥

Thanks a million for watching Ricky. I appreciate the advice. I'll have to give it a try... There's always weird noises. I wish I could find a budget friendly mic that could Bluetooth to the camera. They have ones that hook directly in and operate on a remote, this, allowing you freedom to move around, but they expose the inside of the camera. Thanks again for always taking out time to watch and be here. I really and sincerely appreciate everything you do for the channel. Hope all is well with you and your family. My Abu Garcia spinning reel has the bail held on with two posts secured with c-clips the problem my real has is that both the c-clip and the groove in one of the pins that the c-clipse seats into are worn out. I'm assuming I will have to buy a replacement bail if they are available or just replace the reel itself
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing2 жыл бұрын
Go online and look up a schematic of the reel. There should be a part number available... hopefully you can order it from a third party vendor. Garcia website will most likely only sell the entire reel.

@@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing I just found a second problem with it; there's a spring loaded retention device that's just a little brass Ball with a spring under it but the hole in the plastic housing that keeps that ball detent where it goes has worn out so now when the bail goes to close the ball comes out and locks it up so I just remove the ball in the spring now it's a little sloppy but at least it works. From what I can tell I would have to buy more than what the reel is worth to me to get it back to brand new condition

Thanks a boat load for watching and leaving some great feedback. So, even if you don't have this reel... Servicing and maintenance are important... The inner gears don't really need to much work... Other than cleaning and regreasing... I do mine about once a year... The bail and that metal on metal connection gets a lot of wear and is exposed to saltwater all the time... That needs some TLC more often... There's no set time line like twice a year or anything... Just whenever it starts acting funny. Thanks again for taking out time to watch and be here. I truly appreciate it and your support for the channel. Tight lines & take care ;)

Mine is the complete opposite my bail is loose and won’t lock in and I have no clue what to do I have a similar reel to that one there
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing3 ай бұрын
No sorry, I don't have a video detailing that issue. However, it sounds like the spring and the like dog that activates the bail closing has either dislodged or broke off. I'd open up that housing and see what's going on that side of the bail.

@@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing I’m a bit clueless when it comes to fixing it I’m located in Australia do you think there are shops that would be able to do it for me? By any chance
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing3 ай бұрын
@@MarioHazeem yes... A local bait shop should have someone who can fix it. My advice... If the reel is less than $100... Go get a new one as repairs can get costly, unless it has sentimental value to you.

Mine is brand new and does that
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing3 жыл бұрын
If your real is brand new and it's doing that and you haven't used it much I'd take it back and try and get a replacement. Ken has a great one year manufacturer warranty for defective products. However if you've used it enough insult water and it hasn't been rinsed off properly these problems can occur. So you have to think about how you've used it and where you've been and what you've done and does it make sense to take it apart and fix it or just bring it back. Hope this helps. Thanks again for your supportive channel I truly and sincerely appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

You may have corrosion built up where the bail is screwed on to the reel.. try unscrewing it, use a drill bit around the same size as the hole and ream it out a little bit... then lube it up with oil.. this should solve that problem.
