I miss the 'Good Old Days' when there was a cable going to the dash w/a toggle lever to control the doors. ❤

This reminds me of a time I needed an instrument voltage regulator. Yes, a long time ago. My big city dealer told me they had to remove the dash to get to it and they would need the car for a couple of days. As it happens, the next week I was working in a small town that had a dealer right down the street. They said they could get it done that day. When I went back to get my car, the presented me a bill for about $35. I told them I thought they had to remove the dash. They told me the book says that but you can just reach up and grab it if you were limber enough. The part was about $20 and they thought $15 was enough for labor. What great people!

Mr. O, I used to think that if I could do it, you can. But I've come to realize that everyone is born with a talent, a "gift" if you will. Some can sing, some can play musical instruments and some can draw, for instance. I can do none of those things, but I can figure out how mechanical things work. I know how a transistor works. I know how a computer works. Not many people have the diagnostic skills that you and I have. I'll say you are one of the best at what you do. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and techniques with everyone.

My 2016 Ford Fusion SE 1.5L has had this same exact problem for 3 years. I've been driving it without defrost and floor vents the past 3 winters here in Kansas City Missouri and it hasn't been fun. This video is a God send. I'm going to tackle this project this weekend. Thank you for the video Eric O.

@jonlambert1879 yeah, I've had to warn my car up for however long it took to where I could see out of the windshield. I also was using a 12v harbor freight ceramic heater I could lay on top of the dashboard so it would heat up the windshield just enough to help. I was seriously contemplating using a propane torch as a last resort. 🤣

I had a 6 week car, I was driving to my annual physical when a man in a Honda Accord lost control coming onto the highway via a cloverleaf, crossed 3 lanes and t-boned me. I was driving a Suzuki Vitara and it rolled over. I remember cruising down the highway on my roof trying to steer my way out of it. I was a little sore after that but no major injuries.

Eric, you prove everyday that patience is a virtue! Congrats on doing a great job as usual! You also support my desire to hang onto my 98 Camry and 97 Nissan pickup! They never need much and when they do it's pretty easy! Both are in great condition inside and out. The factory white Nissan suffers from sunburn but every couple of years I sand and repaint the peeled spots! To replace both vehicles with new would run me about $75,000 and since I retired I only drive about 5,000 miles a year. Both of my sons are doing very well so I don't need to leave them a couple of low miles late model units. Cheers!

Our VFW blew the siren every day at noon and six PM just to make sure it worked. If it blew at any other time, the volunteers came from home or their other jobs to man the trucks. I went to elementary school next door and several classroooms overlooked the fire station, so some days we had some extra entertainment.

I remember years ago my dad working on a car and most people lifted or dropped the engine to get to a bolt. My dad just removed the front wheel and drilled a hole through the inner guard, popped a socket on a long extension and was done. Plugged the hole with a rubber plug when finished. I also saw him use that on the transmission tunnel. Saved loads of time.
@craiggoodwin9704
@craiggoodwin9704 13 сағат бұрын
To get to one bolt on a Triumph TR6 to do a clutch job you would punch a hole in the tunnel and then cover it up with the rug. When one would come we'd always peel back the rug first to see if someone else had punched the hole. It seems the hole was always there! Kudos to your Dad. It really pays to have a few trick up your sleeve! 🙃🙂

92 Crown Vic rear axle upper shock bolts are so close to the body below the package tray they actually dimpled the sheetmetal to keep it from rubbing, which conveniently mark the location to drill a hole to get a socket through. I used plastic plugs, but in retrospect a 7/8" hole would be best as you can then use a 1/2" electrical knockout plug with some sillycone to keep out the road schmoo.

Long live the engineers! What a job... My '07 Civic has the heater fan in a place you wouldn't expect... 99 out of 100 cars it's behind the glove box... mine I had to disassemble the complete dashboard because the fan was located behind the center console, almost up against the bottom of the windshield! That's not a place for one of the most likely things to break when it comes to interior stuff.

I just had to do the actuators on my daughters car and I took them apart to see what had failed. The only problem with them are the contacts for the swipes were worn through. They are designed to fail. It's really annoying because they could be a lot better for next to no money. The contact material is thinner than paper and it's brass. It's like they said... design it to fail in 3000 swipes or something.

G'day, Eric, and Mrs. O! Awesome job! Enjoyed the video... On the 2016 Ford Fusion - HVAC Stuck On Vent!! By the way... Theirs Hokey Pokey anonymous: A place to really turn yourself around! Lol! 🤣Thank you! Cheers! 🛠♥ P.S. Why do people keep running over a string, a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner. Then reach down, pick it up, examine it. Then put it down, to give their vacuum, one more chance? Lol!

The last couple day been recovering from working under the dash of my 1997 dodge truck. Lots simpler that that ford but at 70 years old you have to slide in on your side between the seat and door jam then turn on your back, it’s off the ground a ways and your feet touch the ground and legs bent down, about the time I got settled then old Charlie shows up and have to reverse the process of getting in to get out. By the time I get out the muscle cramp is so bad it’s almost an emergency room visit needed for emergency surgery. It just sucks working under a dash a lot more when your older.

Makes me happy that I can afford to have some young mechanic to do that sort of work for me. Eric, you are as always, entertaining and informative.

I had the opposite problem on my 2007 Ranger, the A/C was cold in the defrost and floor vent, nothing from the dash. The first mechanic I took it to, where I had many repairs done in the past, said that the vent 'door' was controlled by a vacuum actuator--1930's tech!, but he fixed it and it worked for almost 2 years then happened again. This time the original mech. had moved on, and the new younger one had no idea about vacuum controlled devices and said I had to have the whole dash pulled and replace the faulty unit, and only Ford could do that. He estimated it would cost about $1500, but knowing dealers, I doubled that amount. By then the truck was 13 yrs. old and the repair was likely to cost more than the value, so I just traded it for a new Ranger and took the hit for "no A/C" in So Fla. I'm confident the new truck has minimal vac controls as almost everything is electronic. Looking forward to 15 trouble free years (yeah, I know!)

Easy Peasy Glad I retired and left some gravy for your pleasure! Seriously, as we age you realize living under dashboards is rotten.

Eric, respect to you sir. All THAT for a freaking blendoor? If it was my car, 1 gallon of gasoline in the alternate front seat tank and 1 "accidental" sparkler toss, with the windows closed. Problem SOLVED. Again. Respect. If it was my shop, I would decline ALL of that crap.

My back still hurts from the last time I swapped out a drivers side blend door actuator. There should be a supplemental billing code to account for the wear and tear on technicians bodies whenever they need to work on those things.
