My dad was a lifelong mechanic. So I grew up in a shop, cleaning parts, sweeping flours and anything else dad had for me to do. That was a good time in my life and I learned a lot from a very good mechanic. I'm now 81 and must say that I've used many principals learned at my dad's elbo. The principals of observing, analyzing, solving, and making the customer happy. you are doing a good job raising your family in a good environment and doing a very good mechanical job meeting your communities repair needs. I enjoy watching your videos very much. Keep up the good work.

I think that this video is a prime example of why the channel is so popular. There are many other really good techs here on KZbin. You go above the rest. I worked for a guy who replaced engines (put a Ford engine in a Jeep body) and did all sorts of auto repairs. He helped me install a replacement transmission in my truck and that was about 12 years ago and she still runs great. It was a huge help to keep me from paying full cost of replacement and I'm sure those girls appreciate having you help them when they need it. It's always nice to see a video of you helping them fix their cars. As much as possible try to make them do the work, it's a great confidence builder. Thanks for making quality content we enjoy watching your videos and my little 8 yr old daughter often asks me if she can watch that guy fix cars because he makes it fun to learn.

I had a 1992 civic hatchback. My sister borrowed it and hit a deer. Busted the radiator dented the hood, broke a headlight, bent the upper radiator support… I fixed it with a 10mm socket and a shovel handle (to straighten the support) and a brick to smash the dent out of the hood so it would latch. I drive that car for years! And gave it to a friend with 250k miles on it. Who drove it for many years after that! Great video. It took me back!

Dunno about Volvos in particular, but it's not uncommon for a repair shop or dealer to order the part (which comes in the raw) and immediately send it out for paint, according to the vehicle's colour code - the customer only sees the painted result, so it looks like it was already painted when it arrived. These days, there's too many colours available for each model to stock one of each shade, so it's more efficient to just paint them as required.

That I have done in the past when I needed a part like this was to use a sawzall and over cut to get the part + out. Then when you have it out and at the shop (or driveway in my case) get it down to just the part. Makes it easier when you have access to all your tools rather than just what you packed to the yard

I worked as a body man (probably inappropriate term these days) for many years and i would say you did a fine job on that repair. Typically though i would not grind the new mig welds in a structural/hidden area like that just to insure weld integrity. As you mentioned using weld through primer is a good practice as well. Another quick tip is to just grind the spot weld through on the damaged part so you don't leave a hole in the backing metal with your spot weld bit. Minor stuff really. Like i said that was a fine repair. BTW you again show your a solid friend and all around good guy for helping out miss Marie like that. Respect!!

Im sure a body shop would do darn close to what you did. It works. Its an older car. And the body shop would charge more than ice cream...lol

The junkyard in your area is really clean and people seem to pick the parts the right way your videos have taught me a lot thank you for sharing your knowledge

Oh yea, dont destroy shit getting to the part you need, some one else may need that part. Any time i am in a salvage yard, whatever parts i have to remove to get to my part, get laid inside the car with the bolts for it

The BEST of theBEST. It’s great to see random acts of kindness especially when that time could have been used on paying customers. You are truly representative of the American way of life. It reminds me of Norman Rockwell’s paintings. You pick which one (or a bunch). I greatly admire your work. Thanks 🙏

Not only did Eric save the day & Marie save loads of cash & time; but in my experience, she ended up with a far better job than a typical body shop would produce. (Glad she didn't have an airbag deployment!)
