Southwark's (90% Labour) Overview & Scrutiny Committee supposedly scrutinises the Council's decision to challenge the Secretary of State's rejection of the compulsory purchase order for the Aylesbury estate. Lib Dem opposition Cllr Anood Al-samerai attempts to question Labour Cabinet member Mark Williams over the decision and takes up Leaseholder issues. Southwark's only socialist, catholic and Corbynist Councillor Paul Fleming questions the point of the call-in; claims that offering leaseholders like-for-like swaps is 'privatisation of council housing'; and urges the committee to press ahead with the judicial review so that the 2,200 council homes on the estate can be demolished (and privatised) without further delay.
