That famous quote is actually said by another soviet official, not Gagarin. Gagarin was a practicing orthodox Christian.

That is a popular misquote actually spoken by another societ official. Gagarin was crypto orthodox Christian. Do your research.

@@Codreanu_Prezent He wasn't "crypto" Christian, he was openly Christian. He was both a Christian AND a Communist. There was no need to be "crypto" about it; while the Soviet government encouraged atheism and discouraged religion, religion was never actually banned. Churches, synagogues, mosques and temples were open throughout the Soviet era. And Gagarin attended church. He didn't have to do so in secret.
