I appreciate the easy maintenance of the older bedslinger designs. I'm happy to see Sovol giving us an updated basic platform and keeping it truly opensource.

Problem is with sovol they mostly use chips that are difficult to update. My sovol klipperscreen is almost impossible to update. If you want to use the default apt command to update the debian system it can even brick itself. If this machine has a way to update itself, it would consider buying it.

opensource is a HUGE bonus with a printer. Way too many YT celebs downplay it or dont mention it, imo. Im glad Nathan talks about it here. the easy repairability combined with modern klipper (high speed?) and touch screen, makes this attractive to me. Id like to see a comparison with a printer in the same price range

The world definitely needs a basic Klipper bed slinger that has all steel motion control components (no Delrin V rollers). Open source is double plus good. With the solid motion control supporting higher speed Klipper enabled printing, I can see getting the larger version of this to use to crank out beds full of smaller parts, with the confidence in the first layer that a bed mesh provides.

I'm actual very positive on this printer. I thought the SV06 was a good design, and the I thought the SV06 Plus was even better. The only thing missing was speed! Klipper solves that and improves the print quality. They also added some components from the Plus it seems to make it sturdier. While I think the SV06 ACE is a good value overall, I think the SV06 ACE Plus will be the biggest winner! Pun intended. This may be a hard sell against the A1, but open Klipper is nice, and the Plus model will have a real size advantage for the money.

at the full retail price of 299, hard pass, even at 250 I'd still pass. Now when they start showing up from Solvol on their eBay store as refurbished machines for under 200 dollars, I'd definitely consider buying one. By the time they are showing up as refurbs, there should be a good bit of support for the printer for 3d models to print to fix issues like you described for the lcd display ribbon cable, and I am sure that modders will come up with better firmware to fix shortcomings in the solvol firmware, so kudos to them for providing the source code,etc. for the printer.

I don't see me ever going back to a printer that is, in and of itself, a hobby or on-going project. Printing stuff is what interests me now, so a tinkering machine isn't really in the cards for me. If it were rebuilding my Ender 5 Pro would probably be my priority. In fact there still a chance it might become a "project" at some point. Having said that, were I in the market for a project printer, or a learning platform that prints well but also responds to in-depth modding nicely, this would be way up on my list. I also might more seriously consider a larger one since I do not have a "helmet" class printer.

I mean, why? I had an SV06 Plus, it was the "prusa clone" that came recommended by many influencers but had fatal issues. It used bump stop to level the x axis... but that didn't work. Sovol's american engineer sat in on a round table and admitted he broke his trying to bump level it. The sag from left to right side happened every time the printer was shut off so you needed to use two identical objects to manually level the thing. It had tool head board issues that would disconnect the bed sensor randomly, causing the head to crash into the plate and bed. It ignored it's own bed mesh too. They sold a klipper screen to take the thing to klipper, but it howled so loud at higher speeds I thought a cat was being attacked. Instead of posting fixes for those things, they just reinvent it and move on? Thanks for nothing, Sovol. I have the SV08, it's nice. My other Sovols were an SV05 (an ok unit) and the SV04 (terrible clogging and poor offset mechanisms, bad bed mesh, etc) and at this point I'm staying away from anything they make that is a cartesian. It makes not sense to get this at $299 when you can get the infimech TX for $30 more. Sovol just refuses to move forward. They are just caught in the habit of tick tock interations of the same things. I had hoped the SV08 was a new path, but I guess it is one step forward, two steps back. To make a bed slinger that is just adequate and does what it should have done all along seems silly. The goalposts have moved tremendously.

@davedempsey5282Ай бұрын
@@NathanBuildsRobots it went backwards on the build and used wheels to I guess keep it quieter. but it was sloppier in printing. I think it also used actual end stop switches. My thing is why sort of REMAKE the SV06? Look at what is out there and copy that. Trying to be an I3 is about 2 years too late. Be an A1 or even something new but use a better bed/magnet system, or incorportate beacon, or something. Don't just fix a bad printer. I guess.
