Well done Aurora. I am an industrial engineering guy and rarely miss the fine reviews you do. One suggestion on the bed calibration I see you run into frequently. I suggest you cycle the bed up to temperature 2 or 3 times before you calibrate and that way you may experience the "too close" first layer less often.

Aurora these reviews are nice but at this point with Klipper you are pretty much reviewing printer profiles. To see how a printer compares to mine I would need to see the IS calibrate_shaper_py graph, see the MAX_SPEED macro for max travel acceleration, do the Orca Max Flow test for the extruder. When I see that a printer can do 8k accel on external perimeters with less than 0.1 smoothing with ZV or MZV, max 20k travel accel, some 25mcs flow, plus a good z-wobble tower -> then it's a good printer and it's worth an upgrade. Wouldn't take you long at least to show 2 screenshot of IS graphs: that's how sound the kinematics is. You did that only for the X Smart 3 and btw it showed that the printer you had was a mess as belt tensions because that printer usually can do 8k while the one you reviewed was ~2K: ofc it failed at print quality tests.

Woah that was amazing quality for a 13 min benchy actually, i dont remember watching reviews of fast benchies look so sharp but i havent watched speed benchies in a while, great review.
@andreas.grundler
@andreas.grundler 12 сағат бұрын
Yes, the quality is really good. However, I saw in another review that for some reason the machine kept producing a layer shift on this 13 minute benchy. But if you sliced a benchy yourself, the layer shift didn't occur. Some have speculated that a particular version of firmware is the problem, as the hardware seems to be fine.

Great review! I just wish it was compared more to the Kobra 3 (Without AMS) since that one is on sale for a crazy low $249 ^^ If you see this comment, which one do you think is better? The Kobra 3 if ignoring the software seemed to have better out of the gate prints and be quieter? Let me know, thanks! :)
@AuroraTech
@AuroraTech 13 сағат бұрын
If the Kobra 3 used standard Klipper with Fluidd or Mainsail and a Orca Slicer, it would be a winner, given its better hardware and build quality. However, they use closed-source firmware (likely Klipper) and their skinned version of PrusaSlicer, along with the associated software and firmware bugs, are significant drawbacks.
@Zalazane
@Zalazane 4 сағат бұрын
@@AuroraTech Thank you for the response. I looked around in OrcaSlicer and the Kobra 3 actually has a lot of profiles available for a bunch of different materials and nozzle sizes, compared to older Kobras (Example Kobra 2 Pro) didn't. There's also a new different Anycubic slicer called Next that is based on OrcaSlicer, their skinned PrusaSlicer is the older not to be used one anymore. Would this change the outcome at all? Anyways, I would greatly appreciate if you tried to include more printers in a similar pricerange in the comparisons, (Example when u show 6 prints in the Honeycomb pattern or Alpaca). Seing a $1000 printer compared to a $269 one is less relevant. Thank you, and as always awesome review! Just minor suggestion to think about ^^

Thanks for your review! It's funny to see how every other person attaches the filament holder differently and even Sovol can't decide which way it should be attached (the packaging, manual and homepage all show different positions)... As for the print profiles: You write "standard profile" for all materials, but Sovol "only" supplies a 0.2mm PLA profile. Where do the other profiles come from?
@AuroraTech
@AuroraTech 13 сағат бұрын
The 0.2mm standard profile refers to the print settings (speed, layer height, acceleration, etc.) and can be found under the Process section in Orca Slicer. The filament profile, on the other hand, is a separate section. For filaments like PC and TPU, I’ve included the recommended temperatures and volumetric flow rates on the screen.

Hi, what problem did you encounter?
@atienne_navarre
@atienne_navarre 12 сағат бұрын
@@888-tyler There were a few things. After assembly, the printer bed would not stay level during a print, I loosened up everything and tried several times. The frame, motors and belts were all tight but it seemed like it would slowly change during a print. I seriously got maybe three or four decent prints over the course of a month or so. Also the auto bed leveling never seemed to work right. the z-offset would always be off which caused all sorts of first later issues. We tried resetting the firmware, checked wiring, tried emailing a few times but only got told to try things we had already tried. Never figured it out. Like I said, not a newbie, we had nine printers but donated a few to a local magnet school. We also build our own lasers in house so we are pretty good at this. It was just frustrating.

Got one of these, it’s ok as long as you don’t have to print any long overhangs. I’ve done many tests and have worked with someone else to try to dial in a profile for this machine to print decent overhangs. It’s not possible. There a free print file, a crystal shaped PS5 controller stand. A1, A1 Mini, Elegoo Neptune, P1S, SV08, and Prusa XL all potent this model with ease. The SV06 Ace cannot do it.

At least not for the average hobbyist. However, there are areas that have other requirements that the SV06 ACE does not meet. Prusa, for example, sells many machines to print farms, the military, research and educational institutions. For example, on the Pusa machines you can not only deactivate the WLAN but also remove it from the hardware. This is relevant for areas with strict security requirements. The same applies to the built-in camera, which the Prusa machines do not have. What is not part of the hardware but is relevant in some areas are certifications and support. This is relevant for educational institutions, for example. Prusa machines and the machines both have a place in the market.
