Jason, I give you so much credit! Suck back breaking work doing all that by hand. I know what it's like to not have a ton of money and having to do what you can to get by. You have improved that property so much! Congratulations!

I'll never forget the first time I watched you, and heard you call your chicken "Bernice". I thought, "Oh how cute, he's named his chickens!" By the second video I realized you named them ALL Bernice 🤣😂. That still cracks me up! Anyway, I'm always impressed with how well you "get in the zone" and get it done.

Be thankful for the post hole digger. My Dad and Mom and I and one of my brothers planted 1,300 apple trees over the course of a dozen years or so using spade shovels and a cast iron bar. The holes were the same size as yours, and you had to be careful not to compact the soil around the hole so the roots could grow. Also, it was time sensitive as we had a short window to transplant them in the early spring in Western New York. We received the root stock by mail, so they had to be planted quickly, rain or shine. I became very familiar with the operation of that very heavy cast iron bar.

You really get so much done. Your place is looking good. You are realistic in how you repair and reuse, while thinking how to make it better. Listening to you think about what you do with your humility, is encouraging. I love your pace, your philosophical outlook, your humor, your love of your family, your work ethic, your “don’t bite off more than you can chew” actions, your neatness, your resourcefulness, your curiosity, your genuine values, and your kindness. You inspire me to finish my own projects. Thank you for your videos.

Making a plan. Chunking it into bites. Eating up a bite at a time. Definitely how things really get done. Don't ever look at how much is left to go. Look at what was accomplished that hadn't been before you started on it today. That's always more than if you HADN'T started today. It's called perseverance. And you definitely have that ability.

Jason, you are going great guns on your fencing. Just a wee thought you might consider. When working on a farm in my youth, when it came to fencing, we never put concrete around the posts. If you use a metal tamping device when you refill the hole, the post will be as strong as if concrete had been used. Saves heeps of money. I wish you all a lovely family Christmas , Sarah from Tasmania.

Jason, if it’s an issue with dogs or other predators digging in….. save ant fencing scraps to lay down along fence and just cover enough to hold down. Let grass grow right over amid you can mow or weed wack as you need to, but they stop tunneling.
@robinwhitlatch44973 күн бұрын
A hot wire about 4” & 8” off the ground on insulators that extend 4 “ out from the posts on the dogs side of the fence & 2 wires 6” apart over top of the woven wire fence & 1 at waist height on the inside to keep large animals in. Charge hot wire to 8- 10k jules works wonders to keep dogs & coyotes from digging under or jumping over the fence & keeps cattle or any large livestock where they belong. It takes usually one time, twice if the dog or coyotes is dumb of them getting zapped trying to dig under & a crater in their nose & or paw pads for them to learn to respect fences & dogs stay home.

Jason, we used welded wire on T-posts to fence in our backyard and we stretched it. We used a homemade fence strecher hooked up to a come along (I hope I am remembering my terms right) that was attached to our truck. It worked great and looked good. It kept in large dogs. When we moved it had been up for 15 years.

Thank you Jason. I love all of your projects. You are right , a little at a time but not to overwhelm. You are doing great❗️ love that you are getting rain, we need it in S. California ‼️
@robinwhitlatch44973 күн бұрын
Hi Jason… you probably already do this but might want to check the bit at the end of your gas powered auger & make sure it is sharp. If it isn’t it will not bite into the soil, cut through it & dig holes like it should. That causes a lot more physical exertion to push down on it to get the bit to grab & the augers to drill the holes.
@79PoisonBreaker3 күн бұрын
That 2x4 welded wire fencing has it's uses but I think this is the only part of your fence you may regret doing. I use this welded wire as a bottom for my rabbit tractors, the other things I tried to use it for worked ok for a short time only. Still loving the fencing videos even if it's boring and repetitive in yo0ur mind as this is year 2 on it I think lol. Thanks for sharing have a great day.

❤ thanks for sharing! Something with the horizontal wood pieces if it’s near the top of the wire. The chickens will fly up to it and test before flying onto the other side.
@drewhillfarms3 күн бұрын
Yup, this is true! Maybe you should install the 2x4, down from the top by one or 2:43 two feet. The chickens seem to love the challenge of getting to the top. If it’s not at the top then they’re not interested. Also the bobcats in my area like to jump to the wooden insulated top and walk along it to jump onto the hens.

Jason, if you take a 1x2 by 18" piece of wood and shove it through the roll from side to side before you cut and release the tension., it wont unroll on you. You than move it side to side to release the roll as you need it. it also alows you to carry it with ease. Keep up the great work.

Is that Lumnah coffee in your cup? About time we get back to this old fence. 🤪 My neighbors when putting up woven would roll it out mount one end to the post, roll out the roll and sandwich the loose end between a bolted (bolt 2 washers nut through every hole) pair of 2x4s and pull it taut with a come-a-along fixed high and low. Then attach to the posts and undo the pulling rig.

Jason, can I make suggestion with your fencing? If that’s to keep the chickens in the last thing you want is to give them a perch to land on to go over your fence. If you put a 2 x 4 across there, it’s just gonna give them a way out. I use the same thing to fence in my yard. Minus the two by fours.
