Smoothing around the pipe opening is the key. I had a slow drain out of my spa so I decided to replace the flapper and found that the opening had significant buildup. A little careful sanding did the trick. Great suggestion!

Here it is three years later and I discovered your video. Thanks so much., as I replaced my valve very recently, but still had spa drainage. When I took the valve out again today I did notice something (perhaps a calcium deposit) inside the body, which appears to not allow for a complete seal, so I took your advice and used some sand paper and did my best to fix the issue. We'll see tomorrow if this did indeed work.

Its tricky to get the spa to hold water, we reinforced the spring on our valves to make a tighter seal.

Hi! Nice video! How do you drain the valve assembly of water before replacing the check valve? My spa drained overnight and so I thought it would be free of water, but when I took the screws out and popped the lid, water gushed out. I imagine it would gush out until the spa completely levels with the pool, but that appears to be another 100-200 gallons because the spa is completely elevated. Tips?

open up the spa bottom drain valve and pump the water into the pool.

I have a 3 way jandy valve. Comes from the filter then goes to either the pool or spa. I can split it 50/50 return to pool/spa. 100% to spa. Or 100% to pool. I opened the valve up the other day to replace the seal and a round plastic piece came out of the pool return line. It’s about 1.5” in diameter and has a “Z” on the top. Anyone know what this is?

Great video!! What happens when the screws on cover of the valve no longer tighten? The cover with the 8 screws...I have a 2/3 screws that do not tighten and I suspect an air leak there. Thanks, George

@@poolleakacademy5573 It does drop... but my back wash valve was also leaking, so replaced O rings there... probably going to change the check valve today,,, hopefully that fixed that leak...
