Space Hulk: Death Angel | Playthrough | With Colin

I am pleasantly surprised to see this playthrough. I've purchased this game 2 years ago and I've watched all the playthroughs I could've find. And they are not many. I thought I will never see another Space Hulk: Death Angel playthrough ever again. I am happy to see a new one. I played quite some games myself (some with friends, but mostly solo) and I've read the amazing in-depth 120 page fan-guide (see boardgame geeks forums). Since I've read this guide I rarely lose (before that I was losing a lot more). For example lets jump right in your first major mistake (and killed marine): 17:34 - You killed brother Kaphael, because you wasted his support token. You should always safe the support for defense instead of offence. That's how the chances work. For regular attack you re-roll for 50% chance to kill (3 skulls), but for defense (against 1 genestealer) you re-roll for 66% chance to survive (0-1 die, 2-5 live). 25:48 - Losing Brother Zael spells doom, since he is the strongest Space Marine among the default pairs. Period. You should protect him at all costs and amass support tokens on him (for offense and defense). And you know who is the 2nd best Space Marine? Yes this one: 29:00 - Calistarius dead If someone is interested in the rankings (from the amazing guide): 1 VALENCIO: F / 1 2 SCIPIO: E / 2 3 OMNIO: E / 2 4 DEINO: D / 3 5 NOCTIS: C / 5 6 LEON: B / 6 7 GIDEON: B / 6 8 GORIEL: B / 6.5 9 CLAUDIO: B+ / 7.5 10 LORENZO: A / 9 11 LIBRARIAN: A+ / 9.5 12 ZAEL: A++ / 10 34:29 - You cannot activate the door twice in one turn. Rulebook Page 18: "Each Terrain card may only be activated once per game round". And now for some lore: 16:37 - Lexus, Lexicum... 🤣 It's Lexicanium and it's not his name, but his rank. Lexicanium is the lowest rank of Space Marine Librarians. His name is Calistarius and in the future he becomes the Chief Librarian of the Blood Angels and his name becomes Mephiston (with the title Lord Of Death), the only Blood Angel ever to overcome the Black Rage (a genetic mutation of the Blood Angels' gene-seed). Besides everything I've enjoyed the playthrough and I am glad I've witnessed another Space Hulk: Death Angel video, since I thought no one will do one anymore. Cheers. P.S. The Emperor Protects.

I LOVE this game! It's probably one of my favorite solo games since it's VERY portable, VERY fast to setup and it has a lot of replayability/depth for such a small box! My ONLY gripe with this game... it is a small one but still... is that Genestealers cards IMHO should have the symbols printed on the bottom left corner AND on their TOP RIGHT corner. This would make the game more fluid for me. Everytime you have a Genestealer on the right and a new one comes out, you just place that card on top a little bit to the right, and both symbols are visible, simple. BUT when you have a Genestealer on the left and a new one comes out on the same location you either have to place the new Genestealer "below" the one present and a little bit to the left, or move the one/stack present to the left to place the new one on top... it a little bit cumbersome and would be fixed by having symbols printed twice (it would make the card look a little more busy, but since it has no other mechanism on it and the art is generic it would not matter that much) making the game WAY more fluid for me XD. That said... I love this little GEM and for those people that say Dead of Winter's die is the meanest die in boardgames... they probably haven't played this game enough XD

Have you played the Warhammer Quest Adventure Card Game? It has a similar sense of tension, constant swarms of enemies, moving from location to location and enemies following. Its really good. I have both but have not played Space Hulk yet, watching this video in preparation. Looks just as fun and challenging!

Glad it helped! Just know the one thing I did wrong was you cannot activate terrain more than once per round. So only 1 support token on a door a round!

Just snagged this second hand and wow, it's fun! It's so damn hard, but that's the fun part- overcoming all that difficulty with some good decision making and luck!

A lot of people would love to get this game according to many posts on communities on FB. It's just that it's out of print and the few boxes available are too expensive. A reprint would be awesome.

I love this game. It's so mean and so tricky for such a little game. It's just some cards and a single (evil) die, but packs so many decisions that affect your whole game :) You were so cavalier and risky with your marines! I loved seeing that but I'd always be too afraid unless I was desperate exactly because of what happened to your two good ones in room 2 :)

I know a game that is this much of a challenge from just some cards and a die, love it! I totally was a little brash wasn't I with my marines, but they pulled it out :) Granted I cheated as apparently you can only activate terrain once per round. I think 2 times I activated the door twice in one round. Thanks for watching!

@21:21 are you allowed to use that Target Lock card again already? I thought to had to cycle through and any one action could only be played once in every 3 rounds. So I’ll f played in first round, can’t be played again until at least round 4. Am I incorrect? Does the travel reset this?

Ireland in DECEMBER?? What the hey :). Man, I haven't touched this game for a couple of years. Luckily, I snagged all the add ons for it before GW yanked the license, so at least I have it all. Losing this AND the Warhammer Adventure Card Game was tough to take, especially when FFG took so long to retheme that one, and then decided to let it die on the vine by the looks of things.

Thank you for this great tutorial. I am excited to play this game for the first time. 26:00 shouldn't you have moved the swarm (left) and the corridor (right) down too? The top part shifted down, but the genestealers and the corridor stayed still.

Yes, and no. There are several strategy guides proving that, with the correct tactics, you are able to win the vast majority of the games in Death Angel. Of course if you miss every roll in a game you will loose, but you still can win having some bad rolls. I recommend the guide in the BGG, it gives some unvaluable tactical advices. This is one of my favourite solo games, along with Ghost Stories. Both games have the fame of extremely hard and unbeatable and highly luck dependant, but that is not true. They are puzzle-type games based on randomness mitigation and actions optimization. You still can have really bad luck with cards and dice so you will loose, but i have played both games A LOT (i still do) and i win more than 75% of the games. I am not a hardcore gamer or an expert or a particularly bright player, but with the proper tactics the outcome is usually a victory. Give this game an opportunity (if you can get one at reasonable price) and it will give you endless epic moments of pure fun.
