thiefofa1073 - You were even luckier (Monty Python style again) My VZ200 had a massive 8k of RAM. Typing in BASIC from a book took hours with that amount of RAM and only 4 colours. Miss a simple comma or full stop and your program was screwed.

I think this is an excellent review, and I couldn't agree more. I actually like this kind of game, and I was extremely happy with how good a job they did with it. I had already played two other games much like it which had come before, and this one was BY FAR the best. I feel like they really understood their target audience in the way that this game was put together, and the art and graphics in the game are extremely well executed as well!

Level editor looks good, but for this price I.M.O people may as well get XCOM 2. Deep campaign with replay-ability, has good customisation (Including great mods like LW2), and is currently £11.54 for the base, or you can get the "collection" for £37.83 on steam (till 16th October). Honestly this seems like a solid game, but should be priced lower I.M.O to reflect its depth relative to its competitors (£15-£25 I'd price it).

I had the DOS one too bro. Weird thing is, about three days ago I was thinking of that game and wondered if I could find it on Steam. Yesterday, I opened up steam and this version is on sale for about £8. Worth a try. Holy moly... it is fantastic. The first-person addition is brilliantly executed and the whole thing feels solid.

XCOM is way more forgiving than this in general and you don't have to rely on cards. Just gear and sound tactics.

Ryan that’s fair, they are very much a like or not setting. TBH I find the new Xcom heavily restricted compared to the older titles. 2actions, bad UI and an over reliance on canned animations vs focus in the campaign management. Simply put they crushed the soul while polishing the mundane aspects.

i agree. i love the concept soo much but i hate take turn strategy. its boring and not fun for me at all. i love real time strategy due to it well.. being real time. no need to wait no. Thats why i love games like command and conquer (zero hour generals red alert etc non of the new crap) and stellaris. :)

if you never heard about Long War total conversions for XCom 1 and 2, you have not played tactical turn based shooters at their best - Long Wars are what Xcom games would be if they weren't made for making the most money by catering to casual gamers... Long War both 1 and 2 are the best games I've ever played

The first person view makes me miss the days of Vengeance of the Blood Angels, which was only first person--you could get a top down view but only for a limited time, and then it took time to recharge. First person, plus it was real time instead of turn-based. I wish they'd go back to that.

I liked the board game back in the day. Looks like a pretty good recreation & I like that you can also play as the Genestealers (unlike previous Space Hulk PC games). I also like Blood Bowl 2, XCom 2 & poker. All of which are a luck/skill mix so I know how to compensate for RNGesus. Sounds like the game's aimed at me tbh. :-D

Konrad Abel - well you must of missed the 2013 PC version which is great, just like The Board game. Then Space Hulk Ascension a little later, now this SH Tactics. If you use Steam, you can find all 3.

Space Hulk - the original board game - was my favourite modern board game. I also bought the PC version some 20 years ago, but I was no fan of the real time element. So Space Hulk Tactics looks interesting, although I'm a bit concerned about the AI, and I'm not sure I can gather my old Space Hulk friends for a multiplayer session. ;)

kubel83 - Nice I have Xbox version as well, have the Board Game AND the two prior versions on Steam. The first one “Space Hulk” (2013) is an exact digital translation of the Board game. Then came Ascension which is the game with RPG unlocking elements, which to me is kind of dumb?! But I’m a purist. SH Tactics is sort of a mix of the fore mentioned two game versions. But now has a card system, which is definitely different! But I do like it....Just not as much as the original rules and gameplay.

Hey, Mack. There's also the Warhammer 40k: Mechanicus coming out next month. Also turn-based, but you get to play as the Adeptus Mechanicus against Necrons. Price is cheaper and it's not reliant on RNG. Might be worth checking out!

I really don't like this game because the Genestealers outnumber you, they move faster and they're way more deadly since melee doesn't seem to miss as often as ranged attacks and is just as lethal.

Do you even Lore? Genestealers always outnumber you in these kind of games and in the Lore. Space Hulks are Genestealer hives. Its like people complaining about being outnumbered by Bees or Ants....

Good review, I tried the whole board game thing once at a Games Workshop many (many) years ago. I was so bored waiting for the GM to complete each move I walked out. This will make any 40k fan cream their cockles though. Oh, your little 'could be better' message stays for like a trillionth of a second and disappears :P

I don't know why they give a percentage change to hit when really it's a dice roll got to roll a 6 to hit a 5 if you keep shooting while not moving I think

However, my point was that the new AC game is just an insult to all gamers and customers, hell, even WB fixed Shadow of War in the end, they got rid of the grind and the MTX. Perhaps the worst part is that AC Odissey could have been a nice game without the MTX and the added grind.

The truth is it's just not worth $40 unless they at least fix the AI. They GS love to just campout and wait anytime you use Overwatch and they aren't smart enough to try to find a way around, they never can come from above or below, and the devs don't care to even comment on why the GS AI is so bad, why they never try to rush you like in every other Space Hulk game.

Is the rng better than the last Space Hulk game? You could guarantee the bolter would always jam on overwatch first shot. I play DnD but cold dice make for miserable games. This game looks like it provides that miserable experience with out the benefits of people to at least raise the spirits.

I Think Space Hulk (2013 version) was the best. Exactly like the Board game! There, your Terminators had everything they needed, no need to unlock stuff. I have both versions (and now Tactics) and so far, the best one is the first one. Then Tactics THEN Ascension. But I’m a purist, so I like rules and gameplay closer to the actual Board Game.
