When skylab was launched, the skirt on the second stage wasn't actually jettisoned, despite telemetry saying yes. Plus, the retro rockets on the first stage blasted a solar panel off, rather than just being torn away, resulting in minimal power until the skylab 2 crew was able to repair it. I would recommend listening to "the space above us". It's a podcast, you only can listen to the skylab episode but it is really insightful on what went wrong, and how they went about repairing it(and how bizarre that process was!) Plus the milk stool looks hilarious.
@GameplayReviewUK4 жыл бұрын
Excellent, I wasn't sure about the skirt, and I tried a few different ways to make the solar panel come off but this was the only way I could do it without making explosions. I was under the impression that the last jolt is what finally ripped them away.

I've heard that as well, apparently there was a very good chance that the interstage wouldn't have separated.

Info that didn't make it into the video Skylab 3 (or SLM-2) had thruster issues and they were almost sent a recovery Saturn IB to bring them home but in the end they figured they only needed two working sets of thrusters to get home safely. Skylab 4 (or SLM-3) had a very heavy workload and after feeling like they were being pushed to much they briefly turned off the radio to ground control. They turned the radio back on shortly after but forgot to recalibrate it, by the time they were back in contract people on Earth had started to assume that there had been a full blown mutiny on board.
