The scene with Dark Helmet playing with his dolls was entirely improvised by Rick Moranis.

Lucas had a few things he couldn't do. Dress Lonestar like Han, and no merchandise. Brooks dressed him like Indiana Jones and made merchandising a running gag.

Fun fact, The Millenium Falcon can be seen parked in the dinner area. So yeah that makes it totally cannon!😉

Lucas was a Brooks fan and loved the idea, he encouraged parody and fan made projects, so made ILM available for the special affects. Which they did to great comedy effect.

7.47 Yep, that's Michael Winslow. The guy literally made a career out of making weird noises. If you haven't already, check out "Police Academy". He has a bigger part there.

Fun fact: _Spaceballs_ and _Beetlejuice_ are the only two movies since the creation of the PG-13 rating to drop an F bomb and still get a PG rating.

Wow, you got a lot of references. Good job 😉 The merchandise-refferences are related to Mel Brooks got the OK from George Lucas to "rip off" Star Wars under the condition that he will not sell any Spaceballs merchandise.

I will say that I’ve seen Spaceballs the face mask. But it’s probably made by an unlicensed company.

It's not even the funniest Mel Brooks movie ever. Don't get me wrong I like this movie but it can't touch Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. I'd probably put History of the World Part One over it too.

Mel Brooks always appears in his films: in this one, he's both President Skroob & Yogurt. Barf doesn't wear shoes. Those are his Hobbit-esque bare feet! The black dude with the sound effects is featured in Police Academy (another comedy.) Among all of the movie & TV tributes, I'm still not sure if the Schwartz ring is more derived from Green Lantern (comic books) or the Lensmen (E.E. "Doc" Smith novels.) The only way that Spaceball One could transform(er) into Mega Maid is if the very large interior of that very large capital ship is also a Tardis (Dr Who reference): bigger on the inside than the outside! Thank you, this was interesting! So many reviewers watch this expecting a straightforward Star Wars parody...but are then totally confused by all of the non Star Wars references! Mel Brooks never makes direct parodies!! He does genre parodies, then throws in anything & everything that even vaguely fits with the story! In this one: fairytale princess, "Prince Valiant" spoof, rogue, Transformers, every other Mel Brooks film, Wizard of Oz, dink-dinks traveling to the Seven Dwarfs song, Fantastic Journey (tiny ship inside a human body). Lensmen/Green Lantern, Star Trek, "Who's on First" word confusion; & Planet of the Apes. Brooks is a Jew, casts Jewish actors; & makes Jewish jokes. "Druish princess" is an allusion to a Jewish princess, aka, a high maintenance spoiled brat! Based on this review, I'd come back for your reviews of Young Frankenstein & Robin Hood: Men in Tights (which follows the plot points of, & critiques, Costner's Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves!)

The movie did ok in theaters, but not to what Brooks was used to. In fact it may have failed make a profit. Mel has said he was disappointed in that. Then the vhs came out... it is his most profitable movie he ever made. For decades, he was approached by multiple generations at a time. Telling him about sharing this movie.

Fun fact if it hasn't been mentioned. Joan Rivers, the voice of Dot, improvised her ENTIRE role. Mel Brooks didn't write a script for her.

And Dot was “body acted” by Lorene Yarnell, partner in a mime team, Shields and Yarnell, popular in the 1970’s and 80’s. Their most famous bit was a couple of robots.
