To be fair, Exdeath's personality in Dissidia is based more upon his neo form's personality rather than his original personality. Mainly due to his unholy sexual longing for the void.

Personally, I consider Dissidia to be a sequel of sorts of all the games in the series aside from FFI. It would explain a lot. Especially considering the villains and heroes have met before, aside from the Warrior of Light and Garland, since the Warrior of Light was created during Dissidia, and in the end, he heads towards Castle Cornelia Exdeath having his Neo Exdeath personality, advocates that theory.
