@@iwantbrains I assume you are asking about the mining location charts? As of now, I'm planning to move over to a manual survey which is going to be pretty painful. I'm not backing down on my criticisms for CIG that we need better developer-owned tools to get this information into players hands, but in the absence of that type of information, the least we can do is make it easier for players to collect and summarize that data. It's not something that's ready now, and might take some time, but I'll be focusing efforts around that.

In a throwback to one of the previous episodes with Morph, the degradation of player properties on inactivity is also something that was in Star Wars Galaxies. Whenever you come across a base you know that there is at least a semi active person behind it and that the "best spots" aren´t hogged by players that started early and then quit the game long before you picked it up somewhere down the line. In SWG this was especially important for player run towns as this would ensure that there are no dormant buildings blocking good spots for eternity.

There is also an additional element from EvE Online that would work amazingly in SC; Power production on bases consuming fuel, adding an element of continuous fuel consumption, where bigger bases having a larger fuel consumption, and thereby requiring more upkeep. If your base runs out of fuel, defenses go down.. and Battery-packs could be installed to increase the countdown time from when fuel runs out, until defenses go down.

One of things that swg did really well was encourage the cooperation between players to make bigger and better things. Crafting worked differently there obviously on a class and level progression vs free to do anything. As your crafter leveled up they got access to make more things. An item might need 2 metals and 2 organics to build and would be a better quality if you put better material into it. Some crafted items would create deeds like speeder bikes or buildings, then you would activate the deed to release the item. When you started to put homes in a shared location, it formed cities. The more active players and buildings unlocked more for the city until you could place things like cantinas, shuttle ports etc. there really wasn't anyone wondering how they might carpet bomb someone's hard work.

Planets will be way to small. CIG currently aims for one regional shard. Therefore CIG already wants to combine all land claims of the shards of one region and represent them in-game (→ You can see claims and buildings of other shards represented in yours). Add to that all the claims of NPCs settlements (Starchitect wants to put thousands of them onto a planet) and general not suited environments (mountains or water surfaces). CIG themselfs already have stated they would like to enlarge the surfaces but there are technical challenges (like memory).

I don't know man, it's a lot of land we are talking about. Every moon, every planet in 2 systems. Hurston alone is a 6th the size of earth and the game population is unlikely to ever be even a fractional percentage of Earth's population. Also, Earth is 2/3rds water and yet there is still untouched wilderness. Multiply that by however many times and you get a sense of the scale. Everything seems small now, but it's because you can travel so fast. 200 klicks in as many seconds? That's some serious speed.

It might not be enough space if the land claim system is too cheap, or easy to defend. The maintenance costs need to scale well enough to deter people from buying up whole sections of a planet or moon. They also need to strike the right balance between the strength of defenses, and the ease of raiding so that no group of any size will be able to defend a disproportionate amount of land.

Hey Tomato. I think there's a major confusion. Base raiding is still possible when the owner is offline in high-security systems. At 7:40min all the way to 8:28min of the Q&A Crafting video from CIG, he said "Which shard that is, is dynamic based on rule-set and if it's the one were the owner is online" .... "When it comes to attacking, it will be on a single shard". The confusion is at 8:08 when Disco asks two questions into one by saying "if you're offline, is my stuff always safe..."

@AlexisK
@AlexisK 12 күн бұрын
@@RicoZaid_ I'm inferring it's not the case because from an engineering standpoint, even the ones who are just interacting in a non-raiding way are causing state changes on the base. However, it's irrelevant for our conversation because high-security bases are shielded, so those state changes wouldn't happen in a raiding way. From a game-mechanic standpoint, you wouldn't be able to raid a high-security system's base in the first place. However, if they start allowing hacking and spying, then it's a problem.... I made a post on spectrum called "Base Raiding Across Different Shards" with different options for players that have shields and don't have shields on their bases
@SpaceTomatoToo
@SpaceTomatoToo 12 күн бұрын

@@SpaceTomatoToo that's correct! but then why did they mention you can raid it if the owner is online? (that was not for low-sec). Former SWG player and many other MMOs. SC has so much potential and I am super hopeful. A few key things worth mention. Make all BP limited run. Otherwise they become worthless. Creates a lot of trade. Account/character specialization. You really want to force account choices such that trade is required. Maybe I can scan down resources well and craft tier 1 materials but not more. Maybe I have poorer scanning but can specialize crafting to create up to tier 4 materials of a specific type (shields or guns or armor…etc…).

In my opinion they should carry on with the mixed mineral deposits, and introduce the quality aspect to the refinery and manufacturing side of professions. In real life, with for example gold, you will never find different types of gold, just different purities, and the purity is what defines the quality. in order to increase the purity, you regulate your refining process. I would suggest an Industrial process would be like this: Mining affects selection and quantity of raw ore Refining step #1: process selection affects quality of material from ore Refining step #2: combine materials into meta-materials (ie: combining copper and tin to make brass) Production step #1: produce parts from materials, with quality of the part depending of quality of the materials and material types Production step #2: combine parts into products Production step #3: combine products into more complex products / vehicles / ships...... And of course, the salvage process would be similar, with the addition of the crew being able to disassemble components from the salvage target prior to salvaging the ship hull. This is where the cargobay of the Reclaimer comes into play.

Am I alone in thinking that refining materials to make higher quality items could be a fun gameplay loop? Like with all these refining ships coming out, have them able to do basic refining but if you want quality results you could take them to a base refinery or pay a very large some for an NPC refining. Then they could have gameplay intergrated to refine the ore into the quality materials you need, the better equipment you have the higher quality you can produce

I feel most ores should overlap, but efficiency should drive the separation, and that some very specific ores should be in their own "lane", like quantum fuel should be mined and refined by the Starfarer, cave gems should be hand mined or with skill roc mined, etc. Scanners should be tunable to different types, such as "find hand mineables" etc. There should still be ores that have multiple minerals possible in them, because without that refining gameplay would be extremely thin. And finding the gem for your sabre of light? Hand mine only with a max quality mining tool :)

I think there should not be a pop up notification when you shoot a base on another shard to prompt you if you want to go to that shard. I say pulling the trigger is grounds for automatically changing shards to make it as seamless as possible. There also needs to be ways of entering a shard without the use of force or alerting your position for the purpose of stealth raids. So if you do fire upon a base, the game should just automatically transition you over to that shard. I’d say for stealth raiding, you should be able to put on a stealth helmet that has good scanning capabilities. By scanning a base with your helmet, this should automatically transition you to the right shard. This would allow you to seamlessly transition you to the right shard without stupid pop ups that add more unnecessary clutter to your vision. As long as CIG makes it clear to the player the rules surrounding this, not every single thing in the game should have a “confirmation” prompt. The confirmation should just be the intended action you take whether it is firing a bullet or scanning the premise.

My fear is that this sounds more and more like what happens in other mmos, low level crafting will only exist as a hurdle to get over financially. The cost to craft an item will exceed its profitability at lower crafting tiers. The cost of materials will exceed the cost of the crafted items. If this happens crafting will be very unenjoyable for new players…

To add to my already existing comment in regards to shard transitions for raid purposes, I also would like to know if it is possible to dynamically spawning an instance bubble around a base/land claim. Like if CIG could somehow eventually Mesh shards together and just run bases and land claims on its own shard. So like if a player plops down a base/land claim the whole area would then just connect to the base building shard. This idea kinda rides on the idea of whether or not shard meshing is possible. Obviously we don’t want to sacrifice seamless transition so if seamless transitions are effected from Shard Meshing, then I say what CIG has planned is the way to go. But one more time I want to re-iterate, if someone opens fire on my base or if I open fire on someone else’s base, then please don’t ask me to go to that shard. Just put me there. Pulling the trigger is my confirmation.

thanks i love those podcast =) Regarding base-building security, don't you think they should temporarily allow us to lock ourselves to a specific shard where we have our base and belongings? Similar to other random MMO/survival games. From a gameplay perspective, this would mean more available space, and if you find a base, it would belong to someone on your shard. From a development standpoint, they wouldn't need to create a cross-shard security system, which could eventually become obsolete.

Honestly my biggest fear with crafting is the tiers are either going to be too small to matter or to big to ignore, which is why i think unfortunately the only semi stable solution is you get a random secondary stat per tier and they cant roll the same stats because if you can get 50% weapon damage on a gun or 50% shield recovery on a shield or something its going to be insanely imbalanced. 1% weapon damage per tier faces the opposite problem in who cares though so i think 10% damage 10% reload speed 10% handling 10% accuracy 10% ads speed, or whatever is the only real option to some semblance of balance.

TLDR: There is WAY more land than anyone will ever use for base building. Folks are DRASTICALLY underestimating how large the current planets and moons are currently. The average building space we can carve out on a planet or moon would be about 12 million squared kilometers just using the average size of 2000km diameter. Doing some basic math the estimated amount of buildable space in Stanton alone is between 100 - 200 Million SQ. KM of space between all the moons and planets. In a single region we're going to have what .. maybe 1 million players? Lets just say its 5 million players in a single region if SC is crazy successful after launch. With only 5 systems, estimated around 1 Billion Sq. Km of buildable space that would result in well over 200sq. km. per player in the verse. More than likely a mining claim will be what? likely sub 1km x 1km. Based on the Pioneer sales of 8km sq. plots we can assume that is a large plot size meant for orgs. All of these will take maintenance, taxes, and for non-lawful systems protection. Can you imagine any single person successfully claiming and maintaining 200+ sq km? Not to mention it's pretty much a given for them to post 1.0 launch start releasing additional systems with plenty of planets and moons spreading out the building area for players. A good % of the people playing I bet won't even finish the missions required to build a base in the lawful systems. Building bases in unlawful systems will be subject to griefing, raiding, and offline destruction. I can't imagine people spending all their time and money investing in these locations only to have it destroyed. These locations will be temporary player bases and more permanent org base locations in all reality. All that said.. I think our buildable space will be just fine and that is the least of our concerns in SC. Lets see if we can get elevators to work first then we can talk about running out of buildable base locations....

If I build a base in Pyro and leave for a month, I'm fine it being destroyed. If I play daily 12h a day, I don't think the game should allow the base being raided when I'm offline. Makes no sense to punish active players for no reason. Attackers vs defenders is the better gameplay, not attackers vs offline defenders. Just limit the attacking windows daily to give a chance for the better gameplay to prevail, It's not that hard.

Especially the people who say that Star Citizen won't release for 5+ years, even though CIG has stated very clearly what will and won't be in 1.0 which shows that they do have an internal timeline. On top of that, when they show something in citizencon it usually takes approx 1-2 years to get in game WITH AN EXCEPTION for Pyro due to the fact that server meshing had some gnarly hitches. Then again, the system was mostly done, it's just that the technology wasn't. It was literally playable at citizencon at that point on its own. I feel like Ol St. Chris needs to get out of everyone's way and let them build a game. They keep having to revamp entire engines because the plan has changed. All the meta-data for all of the resources should already be locked down.

I'm so tired with you people....1.0 is meant to be the foundation of a stable, relatively bug-free game that's beyond a mere alpha. It's not meant to have everything that CIG wants, it's meant to be a realistic compromise of what they think is more achievable to get done in a shorter amount of years so that people aren't waiting another ten years or more for absolutely everything to be in SC that was ever talked about by CIG. 1.0 isn't the end...it's just the main stepping stone to allow a stable, playable experience where players can have real profession that matters as there won't be wipes anymore.

How can you not see that crafting makes SC more pay to win than ever before: 1. Purchase blueprint or materials using aUEC from the store or pay USD directly to a mega org for a discount. 2. Do this multiple times until you have your hull and all components to best in slot. 3. Club the casuals who don't have the time or funds to compete with you. This is how it has been for any MMO ever. Worse if they sell currency like CIG does.

The workers supporting and enabling combat players are the most vulnerable and will be the least rewarded. Only a select few will get good blueprints, and that's only when the combat players are feeling generous. Play a worker and be a second class citizen. That's Star Citizen.

1. A rare material or blueprint is obtained on a difficult raid. 2. Org gives it to an Org player account the officers can use. Never to an individual player because players can disappear. 3. @PeterM.22
@PeterM.22 13 күн бұрын
Logistics might be the least appreciated, but it is the most important. Every scenario in the game will require logistics in some scale. The issue with orgs 'hoarding' all the blueprints is just the way it naturally becomes. Any government, gang, group, guild, org, etc. is incentivized to have some level of control over the resources of their group. Just like in other games of this style, most orgs will prioritize tasks and allocate resources from the group to accomplish their tasks. In the short term, it will be a rapid push to lock down any important blueprints and resources, with minimal distribution. Then, higher-level items will be handed out only to those that can effectively use them(and that will be done sparingly). Long-term, the baseline average equipment loadout of a player in an org will scale accorinding to how successful the org was early-on to secure these resources and blueprints. The more successful an org is, the more likely the average equipment quality of their members will be.

There's a much better way to handle the self destruction of drones.... When building a base let us make a drone storage vault.... That way when they are done building they just fly in and power off and are stored away instead of having to remake them every single time... It's just stupid why they thought self destruction was the option is just wrong.. More and more they seem to be taking reason for us to return to the game away. From the missile and Torp costs, to mission payouts and rewards, claim time, manually having to move every single item in the game, taking away ship inventory. Like sure "REALISM" at the end of the day it's still a game. And they can't sit on the fence with this stuff. They already made our ships from almost 1k years in the future fly like prop planes from WW2 lmfao which makes absolutely no sense at all I guess humankind didn't advance at all.

I think needing to 'shot a bullet' to know what shard its on is overkill, it's simpler, why not just put that info in the scan data. We scan the base, it says something like "Anomaly Detected: Base is partly out of phase" or some such technobabble, and you'll know if you can attack or not.
