To check the oil temperature without a thermometer, use a wooden spoon: Dip the end of a wooden spoon into the oil. If bubbles form around the spoon and rise steadily, the oil is hot enough (around 170-180°C). If the bubbles are vigorous and splattering, the oil is too hot. If there are few or no bubbles, the oil is not hot enough. If the oil is too hot, remove the pan from the heat source immediately to prevent it from getting even hotter or add more oil. Let the oil cool down for a few minutes, then retest the temperature using the wooden spoon. 🥰
