Only thing I'll add to these quality videos is that all side of joints should be primed before adding glue. Flex and hard piping / socket fittings. All mfg's. spec that be done to both sides of glue joints. Been building custom pools and spas for over 30 years. Just a best practice suggestion. Again, quality videos Spa Guy!

would a 6 inch flex hose be long enough to heat up get a coupler in between 2 hard pipes with no flex in them?? I currently have a rubber boot with clamps in between two hard pipes. Not sure if it will hold

Ok Spaguy, after the Elvis Vids I started watching these manifold repair vids and I'm on my 5th and don't own and never have owned a hot tub. The closest I've come to one is watching that 30 min creepy infomercial for that tub company that's always on direct tv. I must be crazy.

Would you ever recommend to use the reinforced clear vinyl tubing vs the unreinforced you are using??
@SpaGuy Жыл бұрын
Unreinforced with is the industry standard the reinforced kind has no real benefit and is really hard to work with!!

Just ordered parts from you. How much trouble am I going to have inserting couplers into cold winter flexible pipe? Hoping for a 50degree day.

It is not easy when cold just try to warm the pipes up..

I have a 2 person tub that I just did a 10 port manifold renew on with all 1/2 inch lines. I just fit the 1/2 lines inside the 3/4 clear pipe that was sent and worked perfectly. After watching your video again I only primed and glued the barbs and old 1/2 inch line but never glued inside the clear pipe. You think it will be alright? It seemed pretty strong I accidentally glued one section of clear to the barbed fitting and realized I forgot clamp and could not pull it off the barb after 30 secs of being glued. I ended up cutting the 1/2 inch line above the clear pipe to get a clamp down on the barb then used a coupler to repair 1/2 inch.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. If the right sided x2 tubes were 1" inside dia, couldn't you just slip and glue the 3/4" clear connection INTO it instead of what you described (using a 1" coupler + the 1"-3/4" adapter)? Or you only advice new tube to go over and not inside old tube? Thanks

I’m looking for the barbed manifold like you used in this video. I don’t see a link at the top of the video either. Like to buy the kit you are talking about. Where can I do that?
Great Video but I have a question. When you go from 3/4 to 1/2 inch and use the hard barb there is a soft surface of the hose going into the hard surface of the pipe held with the compression of the clamp. When you take the existing hose (soft) and go to the soft surface of the flex hose, even with glue have you experienced any leaks? It seems the soft to soft with vibration and compression may leak over time without brass or hard plastic barb inside the 1/2 inch pipe, which also would reduce the water flow as the inner diameter will now be reduced. Just curious.

I have never had any leaks between the pipes inside each other..

How come use used both clamp and glue on the barb fitting. I think if use a threaded hose clamp it would not leak and you could remove it if you ever needed to.

Don why take a chance for a 50 cent clamp? I don't believe in what might work I believe in what will work..

Spa Guy, thank you for the videos. I recently bought a house in northern Utah and it came with a hot tub. It has a leak(s). I see you removing the foam when you do your work, but do you replace the foam?
@SpaGuy6 жыл бұрын
James I do not replace the foam as there is no economical way to do it.. I normally cut a piece of 1" foam and place it in the void between where the foam was and the side panel and that is just as good as the original foam and leave access incase you have future leaks.. Thanks, Spa Guy

@@SpaGuy I stuffed mine full of house hold insulation. Bad idea? Seemed to keep the temp up longer using less electricity, only issue I have had is it has turned into a mouse hotel :/ lol

I like the idea of the barbs for lengthening the hoses after there cut but it's reducing the ID of the circuit. I have freeze damage on a 20 port manifold and now we are talking about almost 20 percent reduction overall in the intended ID size if I use that method as all the hoses needed lengthened. I have no idea how pressure and flow affect one another but my brain tells me pressure increase but flow decreases.....yes I'm sure it's almost . Would you "approve" a pvc fitting over the hose on bother ends vs the barb method. Your videos are great and have really helped. Thank you!
@SpaGuy7 жыл бұрын
Hello Jeff The inside diameter of the barb fitting is usually larger than the inside diameter of the manifold barb so there is no pressure loss.. The only other solution is a complete tube replacement which is not practical.. Spa Guy

One other question....on the 20 port manifold there is the typical 8 port pipe; 4 upper and 4 lower..... it the next pipe is 3 rows of 4 ports (12 ports)....I can't seem to find anyone that has that....I could always just make a longer manifold but I would like to try and not have to lengthen all of the tubes. Any ideas? It's a 2009 calspa 64 jet w/ 2 pumps if that helps. Thanks as always!

what if I want to just cut the manifold off and cap it? I just want a cold tub lol not using the pump, just fill it with cold water and sit in it. which side does the water come in from?

Jd the water comes from both sides.. You would have to cap every line.. Spa Guy

Spa Guy, getting ready to do this , I scotchbrite scrubbed the old lines , but is there any solvent you use to get the lines cleaner ? There still seems to be that foam residue behind? One shot at it , don't want to screw it up

William, I just clean it up with a razor knife scrape it and then twist with light sand paper or a scouring pad.. It is nota one shot deal if it doesn't seal twist it out and glue it again.. Thanks, Spa Guy
