Spanish Mackerel October on Oak Island

Pesca de Caballa Española! It's October and the surf is full of bait. All you need is a cast net, a double drop bottom rig and some patience. The north wind has the sea calm and may have slowed the bite. However, there are plenty of big fish out there if you can find them. in this video we will take a look at an easy method for finding the fish. We will also cook up a hot pepper recipe so you'll have some sauce to put on your fish once you catch them!

Thanks for the entertainment. I started watching due to a lack of beach fishing experience. We just came back from a trip to Bald Head. Thanks for the localish information, I landed a bunch of Blue and a couple Spanish Mackerel. Even got the brother in law on a few Blues, but he didn't remember they had teeth. The years before we only caught croakers and pinfish. Best fishing we've had of 3 trips.

Great vid! I fish Oak Island as well. I haven't caught a Spanish yet but hope to. Looks like it's time to learn how to throw my cast net. Haha. Haven't had much time lately 🥺. Hopefully will find some time soon.

I’m not very good at throwing it myself but if I can get it open even a little bit, the bait right now is thick enough to fill the net.

Nice 2 know u can get macks here. I moved here back in May off West 39th just need a cart, a bit of a hassle without one, haven't had much luck fishing this spot the past couple weekends, maybe time to try the point.

I’ve fished just a little further down, 42nd. I’ve not been overly successful there but it’s nice because it’s not crowded. The point is usually good but right now there is a giant sand pile in the parking lot.

@@SandsintheSurf well hit that spot 3 times with no luck, not a lot of structure that I've found so far in oak island, only had a hour / 2 tops per visit so far, did look like there were some smaller cuts and holes around there. Seem to only be catching croaker and lizard fish on the point inlet side.

@@justinb2374 Oak Island can be pretty flat. Seems like since the hurricane this is particularly true. But some areas do get some good troughs and holes. Biggest issue I’m having now is accessing spots because so many parking areas are still blocked with huge sand piles.
