SpanishPod101 vs Duolingo (Which Language Program Wins?). In this video, John from the TPI team compares the Spanish courses from Duolingo vs SpanishPod101. These are two popular apps for learning Spanish. John talks about cost, as well as what the lessons are like from both companies. For example, Duolingo uses short lessons that include practice drills for reading, writing, speaking, and listening. SpanishPod 101 on the other hand, offers both video lessons and audio lessons. John is a big fan of the audio lessons in particular. They are sort of like fun podcasts. Overall, John thinks SpanishPod101 offers the more effective Spanish program from top to bottom. Spot on comparison! Honestly when it comes to languages I think the more the merrier - everything one can find room can find room for in one's life would be helpful. Focus and correct development is important, but so is variety and interest.

I love duolingo although I've never tried the spanish version only French, I love that you can take a few minutes and focus on it and it isn't too cumbersome!

I want to learn spanish because I eventually want to become a dentist and be culturally competent with all patients I will serve. Learning spanish will help me improve the overall health of others by decreasing the language barrier in healthcare that often steer patients and providers even, away from seeking care they deserve.

Thanks for your videos. I just started free duolingo for spanish, and I'm considering the super version to get through the lessons more efficiently. So far I am finding duolingo's fun, social and rapid fire learning strategy effective at getting me started, but I already notice it doesn't provide enough substance to apply in the real world. Do you think it is worthwhile to pay a few months for super duolingo to quickly build my understanding of the language using the addicting game, then switch to babbel or spanishpod? Or is it better to invest my time and money with babbel / spanishpod right from the start?

The problem with Duo (even Super Duo) is that nothing happens fast. You have to get through SO MANY lessons to learn new words and phrases, as well as grammar. If you're serious about learning Spanish, I would add another program from the start

I want to learn Spanish since I’ve always been around native speakers growing up and lots of job opportunities would like more bilingual people. Spanish pod 101 seems really good for audio! For me, I’ve noticed that hearing and listening makes me remember more than writing and reading.

I have a friend from Costa Rica that learned English for our friendship, and I am trying to learn Spanish for her and our friendship. Additionally, it will help me in my future career (I am an aspiring dentist) in communicating and helping Spanish speaking populations. Lastly, my daughter is of Dominican Republic heritage so it will help with communicating with her relatives.
