I have 4819 hours today and STILL cannot create more than a brick or box in building. You sir have a gift which allows you to create functional and good looking builds, many of which I still use. Hats off to your skills and thank you for thinking I could do something similar!

That's 5X more time than me. I can create nice stuff, but the problem I have is how long that takes. I started on a new CV a week ago and Im probably about 5% into the design of the skeleton. The CVs Ive built before dont get done until after one or two versions come out and need redesigning before they are even published. Spanj seems to be able to knock out a CV in 8hrs, whereas for me even 8 weeks would be a miracle

Yep, you need to have some artistic ability to create nice looking ships/buildings. That is something I learned long ago, I don't have. So I build bricks that function well, but are ugly.

Im not artistic, which is probably why it takes so long for me to make anything that looks half OK. Greebles can make even a simple box look good, use plastic and it wont cost that much extra

Nice basic build guide! HV: If have the green hovers (4) and add some blue (2-4), then the green ones will still work directional. Add a couple of thrusters facing backwards then a small HV works fine early on climbing most mountains, maybe add a RCS. BA: Bases can be built in space, then no SI. Some POI bases can be floating, but regular player can not place one, have no SI.

15:00 if you replace 6 of the initial blocks with thrusters and just put a chair on it instead of the full cockpit along with the generator and fuel tank the SV will fly just fine. That's the minimum you need to get around on an O2 planet. You don't need 14 thrusters to make a working SV.

Also if you try your hand at building do not go into it expecting you can make the same kinds of things you see on the workshop right away! I mean if you can, great, but most of the people you see posting amazing builds have had hundreds or thousands of hours of practice. I would recommend either Spanj's Chillin & Buildin or one of JRandall's videos if you want to see the block shapes in action!

Maybe think about putting out an advanced tips video at some point? That contains things like: Switching game modes with cm, or enabling semi-creative in survival using gm, im and sbp. Or an overview of console commands like: tt, sector, cb, getshiphere, gopt, di, destroy, -clearpivot Some of these are already mentioned in build guides, but you usually have to wade through an entire tutorial video to pick up maybe one or two of them and Ive not seen anyone create a video focusing specifically on the advanced console stuff

I tend to build mostly micro CVs. I usually use them like heavy fighters. Always a nice surprise when you fight someone with an SV who thinks you are using one too because of the micro size.

Not sure if this was mentioned or not, but you can "copy the shape of a block" to learn what it is, and lay it out in sequence to see how blocks go together. To Copy, hold down CTRL + right mouse, this also copies the colour, texture and rotation...works for copying paint colour onto the gun as well (please comment if this is wrong key combination) ... also in creative, you can take a block (steel) and copy an item to duplicate it whilst building, really handy if you can see the item, but arent sure where to find it in the item menu.

2 things i found useful to know about when I first started were radiation near fuel/power blocks and RCS thrusters/controls for the ships to reduce some need for directional thrusters.

Good video to update your older "How To..." video. The constructors in this video look amazing, I guess they are the Reforged Eden graphics, the RE guys need to sell their graphics to Empyrion, the old graphic for constructors are so outdated looking. I haven't played RE but the guys should to create a mod of just their new graphics that we can plug into the game to give it a facelift without playing RE.

Helpful... to a brand new player who hasn't yet tried Reforged Eden it'll be informative if not a little confusing with the differences in CPU. Though it should translate effectively. With pgdn you can lower the core into the ground a little bit so the half of your base down slope from the core doesn't collapse.

blockwork skills (rotation,mirror,combinations) is the most important part for beginners to learn. like doing the slope, making sphere, layering. and introduce the workshop for noobs to download ships to learn the blockwork too.

i prefer SV over HVs cause HVs seem to get stuck on everything. really annoying. if i build in creative i like to build in space and point the arrow to the sun/star so i always know where the front is. i do enjoy the nature sounds on planets though. nice vid

Really good tutorial for beginners like me. I'm not there yet but wondering how the finished SV and CV builds sit up high with the landing gear/feet when you've building them on a flat surface? Are these just parts place on the base level or below it during construction. Do they lift the vessel up once placed or when you land the first time? Thanks 😊.

Thanks :) Landing gears are a pain when building on the surface of a planet, sometimes easier to build in space in creative mode for that but if you do want to build on planet, you can use carbon blocks to build "stilts" from the starter block, then just delete the core, and place a new core on top of the stilts and build from there.

yes unfortunately, I play multi with some friends and while we tend to use one ship at the beginning of the game, we quickly all get our own ships and its much better for everyone then.

If Empyrion had the building freedom of Space Engineers, I would give it more of a chance. Empyrion won't even let you spin a block to a precise position. So it's next to impossible to build a base between two hills and line it up. The having to place a Core to even get started is ridiculous. Super frustrating build system compared to SE.

Its funny, I found SE super frustrating compared to Empyrion, the fact you start with a frame and have to weld up each block. Empyrion builds can number in hundreds of thousands of blocks!

Hopefully they have fixed the bug that made all the stored power in your base disappear. It happened to me twice and of course all the food instantly spoils as well. I actually won't play the game again until it is fixed because it basically stuffs up your entire game. Also the bug where you just fall out of your ship and plummet to the ground. At some point the game appears to crash but you are still flying in your ship. So when you reboot you find your ship still stuck in the air a distance from where you dropped to the ground and you have to go into God mode to get back into the ship.

hey Doog, so RCS, good question. They are no longer required to make a vessel turn however they can help. If your build is a certain shape that doesnt allow you to position thrusters in the most efficient locations, this is when RCS can help, they can increase Yaw,Pitch,Roll stats just by placing them anywhere in the ship. But they do cost a bit of CPU

I just jumped into the game after being out of the game for years, the portable constructer is demanding five "carbon substrate" to build, is their a fix or am I screwed? I have only tried creative so far, but why would it be any different in survival? EDIT: I looked at the wiki and it said catch 22. A portable constructor requires five carbon substrate. Carbon substrate is made with crushed stone. Here is the catch 22 part. Put two crushed stone into small, large, or advanced constructor to make one carbon substrate. But you haven't any access to these machines because they are too advanced. In order to make a small constructer put the required materials into your portable constructer. But you don't have a portable constructor because it requires carbon substrate that you don't have access to. This game is borked! What type of hack do you need to do to change the required materials of the portable constructor to five iron?

And yet, Capital vessels are still basically nothing different than bloated fighters. You still have to control them from a cockpit and they still handle like Fighters... just bigger. Weapon systems are a joke (no target lock, turrets still behave according to their setting which you can't change in combat). Is weapons range still around 1 Kilometer? Star Trek Online or World of Warships is the way to handle big vessels, not this. Which is a shame. because i used to put a lot of time and efford into Empyrion, but hoping things would change... no. Life is too short for this.

The dev is still actively trying to fix that. Infact, a road map for the year was released in the last couple of days that addressed some of the boredom aspects as a new scenario is being added and AI Drones are being added for players and fractions other than Zirax.

All sandbox games can get boring. It helps if you set yourself a goal or roleplay a story as you play. Easy to forget this is a sandbox game if you play with the RE mod, even the basic game has quite a lot to keep you busy for a while. Graphics dont matter as much in games where the gameplay is good
